Weir sacked

There are so many possibilities and every one of them has positives and negatives. None of us knows who it will be and this thread is just identical to when Wilson was sacked.

I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would say if a certain person gets the job I'm not going again! There are people I'd prefer over others, but FFS I've supported Utd all my life and I'm certainly not going to stop doing so, just 'cos I think the managers a tosser. Because whoever it is, I'll still be at Bramall Lane long after they've gone too

As for style, well I really don't care at this level or probably the next, as long as it's effective, exciting, wins matches and sets my pulse racing.

What little I've seen of Derby points to more of the same non descript " style" over content football we've been subjected to for several years now, and is still craved by a minority.

I'm craving style over substance football am I?

Glad you put me straight.

Thank heaven you won't be involved in the selection process! We want a footballing manager. The reasons for that are every bit as compelling now as they were before DW was been appointed. Happily, none of your short list will get anywhere near the job, even Cox, whoever he is!

Thank chuff you won't be either. The managers I mentioned all play different styles of football. The only thing they have in common is they are experienced and successful. Unlike the bloke you've spent the last 4 months championing.

You're supposed to be an admirer of Pulis anyway. You keep forgetting that when it doesn't suit your argument. The fact you don't know who Cox is only highlights your lack of knowledge on the subject you're so quick to patronise others about.

It's like VE Day for the We ❤️ Hoof Brigade isn't it?

Upanatem Morgs. He'll get 'em going with his Bladey, Bladey passion. Especially with Rhino as his assistant.

What? Oh...............sorry.............I've been away for a few weeks.

So you don't known who we aren't allowed to have? Basset and Warnock are retired. Pulis is good, according to you. Who are the hoof merchants we should shy away from?

Is sacking Weir like VE day for hoof merchants? As I suspected, 99% of ALL football fans must be hoof lovers then. There isn't a club in the land who wouldn't have sacked Weir right now, and a handful of fans with a niche agenda.

Cox out!

All the talk of playing more football in the championship is bollocks. That league is far more a war of attrition than this one. League one players aren't in the championship mainly because they are a yard to slow or six inches too short. There is an exception yes, but basically that's true. The really good ones know movement and decision making too (the latter of which fans favourite Brandy lacks, hence his current league one status)

I agree completely. That said, if Wally Downes get's the job i'm not going again.

For me, Clough would be a very mediocre choice. As would pretty much all the other names mentioned.

Unless there's some foreign guy in the wings who we don't really know about, my shortlist would be thusly:
1. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
2. Russell Slade
3. Paul Cox

Bearing in mind Solskjaer supposedly turned down the Villa job, our chances of getting him appear to be approximately zero squared.

I have no idea why Russell Slade would come here either, but ya never know i suppose.

Realistically, that probably leaves Paul Cox.
Just looked on wiki and he had a 49.8% win record with Eastwood Town (yeh i dunno either) spanning a massive 253 games. That's some going by anybodys standards. Then he moved to Mansfield, got them promoted when they weren't really expected to be and now they're up in the top 6 in League 4. When everybody moans about all the candidates having dodgy records, well he doesn't does he. His record is exceptional. You could say "ah well he's only done at at pub level" but then right at this minute, Mansfield Town are only 7 places below us in the footballing world.

Even if they win games and get promoted?

If the change of philosophy is watching what we have seen under Weir, I'd take Pulis over that anytime. He may inject some passion, commitment and some excitement.

I'd love superb, slick passing and lovely interchange with players switching positions but we are in League One with mostly very average players and wont get much better at this level.

As I say too much made between managers style and pigeon holing them into certain categories. They are not all automatically long ball or passing managers. Many of the best ones mix things up. Pulis (not advocating him despite these comments - don't think he would come and not sure he has knowledge of this level - been too high up too long).

To me basics of organisation, getting in the right areas to cross the ball, players making right runs and getting in areas are just as important as the perceived simple choice many seem to think mangers make; eg pass it short or long. It is not that simplistic. The best teams do both and know what time is right to do one of the two options of pass.

Those fans dreaming of Barcelona or Swansea style football need to be realistic. We need to do what we can to get out of this division and then maybe we can introduce better players and play more football in the Champ. one day when we get better players of a Prem class we could maybe aspire to be like those type of teams. At the moment the best football we could hope for at this level is football that gets results where the defence is solid but we get it wide and make things happen. We have midfielders who are comfortable on the ball but can score goals. Leyton Orient have managed this with perceived worse players than us? So should it be that hard to get our squad at least applying similar sort of principles to them?

I agree with what you say really, it's just that my default reaction over the past few years has been to switch channels whenever Stoke have been on TV. They have been the epitome of non football and a dirty bunch of bastards to boot. And I can't stand that bloody baseball cap.

Phipps has said we will bring someone in who can work with the players we have and that we will play passing football. You can rule out any managers who favour direct football based on that.

This was always a strategy for the whole club and wasn't just the first team for a couple of months. All the younger age academy sides have been playing a similar formation to the first team. Even United wouldn't just tear up the plan because one manager hasn't worked out...would they?

hes hardly going to put going to bring in someone to alienate the players and even if you go long your looking to pass to your own players, so it could mean anything

At last. Someone who is paying attention to what is going on! All this nonsense such as 'Warnock wouldn't touch us with a barge pole'. Get real, the club has an even longer barge pole for the express purpose of not touching Warnock!

So it looks like it will be the decision of HRH and Phipps on who is our net boss rather than the selection panel. Playing continual direct football would be pointless cos we do not have these kind of players to make it work. Most of Weir's signings are small players with flair but lacking character which affected our balance in the team. Tippy tappy football didnt work for us, direct football wouldnt work for us. If we are allowed to make one more signing then it will be a new captain who is strong and influential like Dave Mackay or Trevor Hockey to replace the ineffective, characterless, one-footed Doyle. This new captain would make the team tick a lot better than anytime this year. We need a style of variety football

he had to go and needs to learn more in management.

I think that's the promise that he came with. Unfortunately, his delivery..........

Have you been searching the net for that??
Actually I saw one near Redditch the other day and tried to take a pic but only got half ( the traffic started moving again) a lorry.

We used to have a section called "moonlighting" on the old SUISA site. This one would have been him moonlighting with us.

If you look carefully you can see a small door on the side near the cab.
That's the "Carsley Flap" that is.

As I was leaving my "interesting" party on the night of the Crawley game, I saw a tradesman's van displaying the name "David Weir".

Perhaps Mr W had already started up his new job in anticipation of the inevitable...

Fnar fnar - the context of you, an "interesting party" and the proximity of a tradesman's entrance.

:)

Very good :-)

I went to the party with the lady in the pic. It was down in a posh bit of south London. It wasn't a particularly good party and we left early (it was one of those where as I observed a young lady being spanked I was thinking "if we beat Crawley and then get a result at Coventry, maybe it's not too late for the play offs...")

As we walked down this side road back to the car, we saw this van, which I took to be an omen that we would have beaten Crawley...
