You don't know that though. You also don't allow him time to make it at his new level.

We don't know but there is no evidence to suggest he does know what he is doing. If we had hit the bar, post a couple of times, lost to dodgy penalties/offside goals, suffered loads of injuries then the manager would have a lot of sympathy.

You can just tell sometimes that things aren't going to work out. Weir certainly isn't going to work out here so we might as well not waste any more time. If there had been even small improvements, he would have earned a bit of time, but we cannot afford to let him keep losing, just for the sake of getting some managerial practice.

Get somebody in who has done their apprenticeship and will get us results straight away.

I'm a long-termist, I also don't think it would benefit us going for a long-term approach that sees us relegated. I think Christmas is the time to judge and the situation assessed then.

What I will say is that DW definately needs to look at himself and realise that this formation clearly isn't working.

We are 14 points behind Orient who have a game in hand over us. The team that started on minus 10 will be above us if they win tomorrow. Thats before we even start with Wolves Peterborough etc.

Sheffield United have lost 5 out of their first 7 games in the 3rd Division. In all the club's history, it has never got as bad as that. I only saw the first game when I thought we looked a decent team. By all accounts every game since has been appalling.

Objectively, this set of players should be good enough for upper half third division, tomorrow we will be in the relegation zone and, if we carry on at this rate will end the season with around 30 points!

Something has to give. I am not one for sacking a manager less than 2 months into the season, but the signs so far are that Weir is out of his depth. I would give him another 5 games and if we don't get at least a couple of wins from those games, he has to go.

I'd tend to agree - but we can be "at Christmas" is a few positions - 15th place and starting to look good, or bottom of the league after making as much progress as an asthmatic ant with heavy shopping. Given we're heading for the second scenario, I'm inclined to bring the date forward. The time is coming............

Yeah its a bit long to wait until 26th October - Crewe, 16th Nov - Gillingham and 23rd November - Bristol City.

Given the excuse for Wilson's removal, surely that argument is stronger for Weir's removal? Indeed I think I'd prefer Wilson back. At least he could get results - after a fashion.

However the problem with getting rid is
1) Who do we get?
2) Who would want it??
3) How much will it cost to pay him off??( Doesn't deserve a penny)
4) We will still have the same shite players

My guess is that we will have a statement about 'Long term goals' 'team bedding in' etc from the board either now or after the next defeat and that he will continue in the job.

Its a bit shambolic at the moment...

The persistence with one up front is bizarre. He was fairly clear in his book that he didn't like that tactic, and that you had to be a fairly special player like Drogba to make it work. Well, what has changed his mind?

I can only assume that he's looked at the strikers, decided he has no good options, and has decided that playing one average striker rather than two average strikers ensures we have a better overall 11. That is clearly not working.

McCabe, when asked what the extra investment might mean in the short term, talked of getting better playing staff "and potentially better coaching/managerial staff". We are short on ideas - perhaps we will bring in a new person to his backroom team.
