Wednesday fans. I think it's fair to say you were massacred.

Well here's a few comments from the neutrals:

"Tyrese Campbell scored twice as Sheffield United outclassed Sheffield Wednesday 3-0"
- BBC News

"United’s frustration at half-time was that they had not made more of their dominance"
- The Guardian

"Sheffield remains red after Sheffield United thrashed Sheffield Wednesday 3-0"
- OneFootball.com

Owls - goals 0, shots on target 0
Blades - goals 3, shots on target 7
Could/should have been 5 or 6 - 0

Now, lets put Boxing Day '79 firmly to bed shall we?

I think it was put to bed already. I don't think bouncing day will be topped in terms of entertainment. 3 nil away is certainly as big a brag as 4 nil at home.

How old would you need to be to have watched the boxing day game live and remember it? Becoming as relevant as our 7-3 win.

We could win 10-0 at the lane and people not even born when boxing day happened would still not accept it was "avenged" though. Leave them to it, they have nothing else.

You’d need to be early to mid 50s to remember it.

We could have scored 10 and they’d still be bleating on about Boxing Day, when they aren’t lying about attendances and how our squad is older than theirs, and how their rightful place is in the top six of the Premier League and how their new owners will get them there.

Still, biggest away victory in a Steel City derby.

I agree mate, but I was there as a 17 year-old, and it hurt.
Apart from it not being 4-0, we simply outclassed them today way more than the Boxing Day reverse, and although Bouncing Day was special, today was payback for me.

I was there as a 9 year old with my dad in '79. Today was great, but for me Bouncing Day edged it as today was like taking candy off a baby whereas in 2017 we were underdogs, with a vastly cheaper squad, and they had been lording it in the run-up to the game telling us how they were going to teach us a football lesson.

Today was rubbing a puppy’s nose in the steaming turd that it did on the living room floor.

Yehhh, me too. It was unexpected from them but we knew our potential. Their taking the piss about us having “momentum” etc was brilliant. Still remains Roy’s best ever pre match and post match view from. The realisation we’ve just overtaken them and today showed the consequences of that day.

They overtook us on Boxing Day, we overtook them on Bouncing Day.

I was 13 in 79 so remember it quite well.

That 79 match was memorable for Owls because we were top dogs in the 70’s whereas Wednesday were crap.
We were sat top of the league and all Blades were very confident we would…yet again show our superiority.
So it was a massive shock to the system to lose 0-4…such a shock that we hardly won another game that season.

The 2018 Bouncing day match was equally memorable for the same reasons.
Wednesday had dominated the city for a spell whereas we’d just spent 6 horrible consecutive seasons in league 1. Most Wednesdayites I spoke to were very confident they’d beat us….however we didn’t just win 4-2
But outplayed them in the 2nd half and thoroughly deserved our big win. After that match Sheff Wed never recovered and their fans were walking around in daze losing their desire for banter.

Both these matches ended up being historical because they both proved to be watershed moments when the tide regards Sheffield dominance turned.

Today was very different.
Didn’t realise Wednesday were so crap….not even average league 1 standard. Unlike every other derby felt slightly bored as the result was never in doubt….felt a tiny bit nervous thinking surely Wednesday must improve and have a spell of attacking. But no they had no belief and kind of gave up when we scored….they didn’t even show much fight or effort. A really easy win today and should have been 5-0..with luck could have been 8-0.

totally agree we had a great chance today to bury the bdm once and for all should have had 6 and agree with you i was there in 79 and no way that was a 4 - 0 result if it hadnt been for us hitting the crossbar then bolders unbelievable save from the follow up i think we would have won that day

Very happy with the win. Absolutely miles away from other wins though. This had fuck all to it - no edge, no bite. If Bannan had finally turned up to a derby it might have been different. Shocked at how shit they are.

The high from bouncing day last about a month. Not sure this will last as long, and it doesn’t really feel as good. I used to be a +1.5 golfer, this felt like the times I’d take my dingle brother in laws money every other week.

This has summed it up perfectly.

Bouncing day absolutely ruined them. Not the club so to speak, but the fans, Christ. Never seen them that low. I don’t think they will be as easy to wind up today.

pig in law messaged me to say he reckons games should be handicapped to make it a even contest, given our squad value they should have been given a 3 goal start so in actual fact it was a 0-0 draw.

Don’t think he’s intelligent enough to be ironic, so the cunts for real

It wasn't an unbelievable save from the follow-up. Bourne hit the crossbar and then MacPhail hit the rebound straight at Bolder with the goal at his mercy. Mick Speight going off injured didn't help either.

I said it in the pre match view from that the 2-4 was probably more impactful. They’d just come off the best play off defeat and were basically the world’s biggest and best side. We were an abject failure of a pub team having got 100 points and won league one. We all told them that this time we were the real deal. The shock factor sent them spiralling and turned the tide. We didn’t talk too much about turning the tide. We did it with a tsunami.

Today was more about us. Sure they’re in a mess and claim to be turning the corner of admin whilst claiming to be the worst version of themselves since 1975.

We’ve had a terrible season by our high standards that we set and expect of ourselves. It’s just not the season we hoped for, mistakes have been made and the owners will know the responsibility they need to take.

Last season was about doing the double. Nothing pretty, just get the results and refocus on the league in what was still an incredible season, but it ultimately came up short

Today then represented both sides being shit and in the shit. It was enough to sneak a 0-1 or even a draw. Just don’t lose.

What we got was one of the most complete derby performances and results in my lifetime. I felt that we won it easily, right from the first goal. We could’ve got sucked into their game, we didn’t. We set about our job professionally with class and quality that is in there

This is the standard for the rest of the season.

I'd say annihilation, or demolition rather than massacre. We didn't get a 4th which would have put it there, but the performance as a whole was an absolute hammering

I was born in 79
Couldn't get a ticket for Bouncing Day

Went today...so for me today will be the one. Finally we bossed a performance with goals.

I was suprised how shit they were. But that takes no gloss off the day.

Seen us win there before but today tops the lot.

My shins are cut, calves bruised I'm 45. I fucking loved it.

I would say the fact they haven’t beat us in nearly 15 years is far greater than a massacre that the majority of fans didn’t witness

14 years without a defeat to them lot

Could be 20 years before they beat us 😳

Well the pigs certainly played like they’re handicapped

Even though I'm extremely pleased that 4th would have for once and all shut them up about the bdm, on another note the ref was shit, especially in the first half, 2 defo pens and a second yellow he bottled, should have been 5 at least
The chants of we want 4 showed that. Shame..but takes no gloss off how dominating we were today.

We looked threatening every time we played it fwd.

Peck was well up for it and it showed.

Everyone played their part.

Cooper was shit though did nothing all game 😀

Where was the "legendary" support . Given the circumstances the rats that deserted the sinking ship should be embarrassed
Locked out? There must have been at least another 30,000 wanting tickets for today, after all, they only went missing to boycott Chansiri.

Now, lets put Boxing Day '79 firmly to bed shall we?
But that's all they've got left. So many throwing out the same soundbites today that we should have exceeded that scoreline. But they're missing the point (perhaps intentionally) that we've won away from home against them by 3 goals, and they've never done that in this fixture.

It's the standard pig approach of smoke and mirrors. Wilfull ignorance to how shite they are now, in favour of "we beat you by 4 nearly 50 years ago, so we're clearly better".
