We need to talk about Sydie Peck

England U21 management still happy with him.

I've not actually watched his minutes for them but from looking at the stats he always seems to get brought on in more of an attacking midfield role? Anyone who's watched can confirm?

Just my perception, but when he's playing for England he's scoring or assisting pretty often. Are we misusing Sydie? Is he more of a no.10 rather than an 8 or 6?
Personally I don't think so. He's had any number of half chances and plenty of possession around the box.

That said, I do think the lack of movement from our forwards would make it difficult for any holding midfielder to thrive.

I think your genuine blade will know Peck is a good footballer that will have a decent career BUT he does need dropping/resting.
He’s our best holding midfielder we’ve got available at the moment, Brings much needed energy and commitment to the cause and one of the few players in the side, who never shirks, is always willing to get on the ball, and is 100% committed to the cause. It would be professional incompetence of the highest order if Wilder were to drop him, at the moment.Maybe if better options come along in the form of Arblaster, and reinforcements in January, we could afford to give him a rest then, but certainly not until.
A Blade for 60 years, and counting, but apparently a disingenuine one!

Not quite 60 years here. Well done pal.

Four things

1. Peck needs a rest
2. Wilder won't drop him
3. Too much is already being put on Blaster's return
4. We're a proper mess at the moment

I like 50 years plus of being a Blade. It allows a wider perspective on what we're being forced to endure by those supposedly in charge of what was once BDTBL.

I think he does play more of an advanced role for the youth set ups than hes been asked to play in our senior team. I also think its a bit of how hes been asked to play for our senior team which is more safe and deeper than the youth teams.

But you have to take into consideration that our youth team and england youth team have much better players around vs the opposition and thus allowed to play with more freedom, well less chance of being punished by a mistake.

still not performing as well as last season but of course hasnt got souza at the side of him but wilder has to take some of the blame here he should have been rested 4/5 games ago and just looks as though he could do with 2 or 3 games on the bench to get his energy levels back up mind do think he looked a lot better at coventry in a more advanced role would like to see him there next sunday at the sty

If he had more positivity to his game he would be a reyt player. When he first joined the first team I remember him playing some lovely through balls, defence splitters, which he seems reluctant to do anymore. Just doing that spin and passing sideways or backwards seems to be his go to now. In fact, I have never understood why manager think that a midfielder dropping into the back line, then just passing the ball to a defender, putting the onus on them to make a creative pass, is a good thing. Pointless.

Could be you have a point there. Funnily enough, Ogbene played for ROI in the 2 - 0 win over Portugal and looked twice the player he has for us, more running, more involvement, even hit the post.

Could it possibly be that our Chrissy picks the wrong players, tactics, style etc.

Just a thought 🤔?

He seemed to be more central for ROI and they were breaking and counter attacking Portugal.

With us it looks like he's more of a wide midfield/wingback hybrid which I would guess may be physically more demanding.

It might help Peck if some of our forward players moved and created space. My bowels have more movement than Campbell.

Can't remember the game last season (Coventry at home?) when Peck delivered probably the pass of the season from which we scored. He has it in his locker.

Yep. As I said he does, and yep, maybe having forwards not stood there like lamposts would help

I only saw the extended highlights, but it looked like he was playing in a front 2.

You can only pass to players who move to create space, otherwise you retain possession, subsequently it goes backwards or sideways.
COH creates space but other teams mark him subsequently the ball goes backwards or sideways.

His mediocrity holds us back and he needs to improve, quickly.

Under 21s level is sub championship because of the lack of intensity, pinch of salt with anything like this against a poor team.

He needs to provide passes and assists like that for the blades, consistently, because a box to box midfielder providing 2 assists and no goals in 60 games is poor
