We look a different team to last season

Why don't people wait until after the match so we can judge a performance over the full match? How many teams play to their full potential for a whole match? Not many. These players of ours, despite what we all think, have virtually no experience of playing at this level are bound to be nervous and a bit tentative at times. Overall, they have done us and themsleves proud. Four games in and not one team has really ripped us apart. We didn't play great in the first half against Leicester but, apart from one error, we didn't really look like conceding. Neither did Bournemouth or Palace. Bring on Southampton I say and I suspect we may see a different approach.

I noticed that first half we gave too much respect and when in good positions were going backwards personally bit controversial we need a couple of players a midfielder with real class to get to the next level I think wilder tried this with going for Sandr berge.
If we play like 2nd half all the time we'll beat teams comfortable watch Chelsea blogs 2nd half they were petrified we would get back in it.

Did someone really use Norwich playing the same way as last season as an argument against how we're playing?...
Yes I did! And the first half we were like scared kids again, just like wilder said were not a championship team in the cup were a premier league team, if we keep to our philosophy we'll give most teams a game but we seem to need a half time bollocking before we settle down

We ain’t Liverpool or Man City (yet), we’re not going to be having it all our way for 90 mins of a match in the Prem otherwise we’d be fucking (joint) top. We don’t control every single half of a match... and that’s fine, we didn’t last year either but that worked out ok. If we’ve been shite for the entire match then go ahead and lose your shit but that’s going to be few and far between based on what we’ve seen from Wilder’s sides. Judging us after half a match, some people are in for an aneurysm before the end of the season 🤪

Agreed. But according to some today at half time..

Bash is out of his depth.
Freeman isn’t a patch on Duffy
Hendo is overrated and should be replaced
Norwood is crap as captain
We need a proper commanding centre back

The sad thing is that most of our bedwetter element, never learn. They don't post later apologising for their stupid OTT comments because some of them actually think they were right.

I'll never understand why thus race of hyperbole has to develop. The comments get dafter in a race to the bottom, occasionally culminating in the classic 'Wilder has taken us as far as he can' bollocks.

Keep your powder dry, FFS!)

I don't think people criticising that 1st half should feel any embarrassment.

I was, and still am, disappointed at the first half performance because we are much better then that. In the 2nd half we showed a truer account of our ability as a team. The last 4 goals we have conceded, 3 have been very poor even by Championship standards. Unforced errors you might call them if it was a game of tennis.

If we can iron out these individual errors, play without fear from minute 1 and look a bit more incisive with possession in the final 1/3, I am very optimistic.

If i’m honest I thought that Bash would be out of his depth in the Premier League. Apart from one mistake he’s proving me wrong.

If we had started better against Leicester and Chelsea we could easily be sat on 3 extra points and judging by Wilder post match interviews he would probably agree with that.

Yes it was a good comeback against Chelsea, but personally I’m still slightly disappointed we didn’t beat them because they aren’t a great side this season.

I think there is an element in our support that are just happy to be in the Prem visiting the nice big grounds. There is nothing to fear in this league and we shouldn’t be happy with first half performances like yesterday, even when followed by a great second half. Those poor first half performances have and will cost us points this season. We certainly can’t afford to start like that against Southampton.

If I look at Chelsea blogs (or any other bastard team’s) I see the same hysterical stupidity that we hear from our own tragically insecure element. What I don’t see is any insight or wisdom which appears to be actually born of the reality of the game being played.

You mean that Norwich that are not performing as well as us?

Well to be honest, I think that's a load of crap. Take the two gifts away and it was a 0-0 game and a professional first half away to a decent side.
It really wasn't ,we were very negative .the ball often ending up with our keeper from corners or dangerous free kicks and good positions .we were constantly hoofing it long and giving away possession we were letting them walk through us with the ball and not pressing them or playing with any intensity .in short we were well below par in every department

Every single pundit who watched the game has said we were like two different sides in each half and we were
The one in the second half was Wilders Sheffield United the first half was more like warnocks

It's not the first time either we've been over cautious in each game so far but the occasion seemed to get to us a bit more yesterday

I want us to play like we have the last 3 seasons and give this season everything we've got
It's understandable there will be nerves and some of the in game management and naivety is also understandable
I'm sure we will learn but we've got to overcome the fact it's taking us half a game to start believing we belong here because we should believe from.the start

Clearly nervous in the first half, I agree with that. That's probably what contributed to the two gifts too.

However, Henderson didn't have anything to do other than those two moments.

Wilder is spot on, he has more belief in the players than they do. They really need to believe that they belong on the same pitches as these teams and can give them a game.

Also because we set up to stop them and played with a back 8 and virtually no one venturing forward or brave enough to pass it forward
And that's ok if you keep it tight and are comfortable enough on the ball to play out of the press but we didn't ,we hoofed it forward aimlessly and aside from the Robinson chance didn't create anything and gave them two goals

Anyway don't want to sound like im criticising the team as I know it's just down to nerves and I hope yesterday was this season's villa

When you lot are at the game do you chat in the concourse at half time about how things are going? Ever criticise? Or do you all stand there in a circle saying "ooh I don't want to criticise our Cal, let's reserve comment until full time..."

It's a live Internet forum. There is no ban on posting during matches. It's a platform for discussion. So to everyone giving it the big Captain Hindsight act, climb down a bit & settle.

We were shit first half against Leicester & made errors first half defensively against Chelsea & were too sheepish in attack. If I, or anyone else, wants to state that at the time - rather than waiting for full time when getting a result might subconsciously shift our opinions then we're entitled.

We did excellently in the second half & I hope that provides us with a launch pad to kick on & be more confident in our own abilities. It doesn't change the fact that first half it wasn't good.

For what it's worth, I thought Stevens & Baldock were outstanding again. Basham also had a very good game. In midfield, I don't think we controlled the game & were a little overrun at times. Robinson & Freeman, when given time on the ball, looked scared to make positive decisions which I hope changes. McBurnie wasn't good yesterday either.

But thetes no excuse for kicking it directly to a blue shirt.

Compare Hendos distribution to Kaspar Schmichaels. Most of the time, Kaspars hits a Leicester player. Hendo, its the opposite, its ainlessly plodded forward.
Schmichael’s dad was the best goalie for distributing a ball I’ve ever seen. He could pick out one of his forwards on the half way line and throw the ball accurately to him to set up an effective counterattack.
I’m amazed so few goalies have the ability or confidence to do this these days.

Previously we had an anchor 2/3rds up the pitch, in the form of Duffy, around which our whole attacking play revolved. We no longer have that and whilst it isn't as good to watch (for now) it was possibly a necessary trade off, and for the time being it is getting results.

As we become more comfortable I can see Freeman/Ravel picking up where Duffy left off, especially at home.

Schmichaels distribution was outstanding (just like his dad).. dean could learn something there

exactly it's only people sounding off because they care about the club
Some comments were ott but from game one we've started cautiously and we seem to be getting more and more cautious to the point where yesterday it seemed like a breaking point
We recovered well and got something out of the game but the players confidence obviously isn't as high as it could be and a defeat yesterday could have had a real damaging effect
Hopefully now the boys will have the belief in themselves to play how they can not asking for them to overrun teams and play like Brazil just do what we know they can

the two Brazilians at Liverpool and citeh are the best I've ever seen
Ederson in particular could play in midfield as a playmaker

This has happened 4 times now and cost us points against Leicester and could have today and if that trend carried on we would go down

Though reality shows we have averaged 1.25 points per game which if continued would see us end the season on 47 points, or 13 place last season.
We rarely start the season well and I think once the new boys integrate more we will push on from here.
We lost the first three games last season and got promoted, so patience is a virtue. Going into meltdown after a poor half is (insert word of choice here).

Or that some are so blinkered they cannot see that a season is more than just 45 minutes. Still the internet is a vast chasm of space that requires filling every second with opinions and knee jerk reactions.

I agree with everything you say but you've got to put things into.context at half time yesterday people were losing their shit because the performance was warnockesque up to then

Anyone who cares about the team could see that the only thing lacking is belief ,the fact that it's not coming till after half the game shows that they are good enough and can do it but the next and most important step up in Wilders reign is putting a team out at the start of the match that plays like it knows it is good enough to win

It was frustrating that's all
