Quote from Adkins re last season. Sums it up for me.

"For a start we wanted to give every player the chance to show what they can do" - Adkins.

That's where we are at. Spot on where we should be.

Delayed match report from the Swindon game posted on Twitter?

Apart from saying that Billy Sharp is a Leeds player, that's all he said in a 5 minute interview. That's all there is to say, that's why.

I think it was more a case of not scoring enough at one end,and conceding the odd daft goal at the other...it wouldn't matter if the opposition scored on their only attack,if we had been capable of scoring 3 or 4 at the other.

Quote from Bob Harris on club website " the lads smiled at each other when we saw the footballs out for training. I've enjoyed the football-specific training"

Managers can't win sometimes. Either they're talking bollocks or stating the bleedin' obvious!

Bob Paisley could hardly string two sentences together in interviews. He did reasonably well....
Yeah I guess nowadays the fans are that desperate to hear any news after a few weeks without football that the media just interview anyone and everyone. Still a month to go before the season starts so they can't talk about the match and as we've signed nobody it's a case of talking about training with footballs or how preseason doesn't get any easier...

All we want is that the players at BDTBL do the talking were it matters - on the pitch.

Think that was in reference to them doing ball work on the first day back. From what I've heard, commonly the first couple of weeks of preseason is just fitness - getting 'beasted' to lose the summer weight before starting real training

What an important message to the players, that's the point. Obviously different to what they were used to and it is a ball game of skill after all.

Hey Pinchy, the OP was fully supportive of the manager's simple messages and the stage he is at.

Training with the ball is not insignificant, it's a culture and Harris likes it.

So based on NA's comments, I'm expecting him to sign two strikers that can double up at centre back :)

CB players are a threat at defending set pieces and also scoring from them , as long as its in the right net .

Of course it's not insignificant, but it's stating the obvious that they enjoy it compared to (presumably) all out running/ fitness work.

Some coaches favour using the ball, others rather work without it. Others like a mix.

So what was the significance of stating that they enjoy playing with footballs?

or having to say summat in response to stupid questions that the interviewer knows they cannot answer

Harris pointed out that it was a big difference to them, one of the noticeable things different from the last regime, that's the implication anyway, otherwise why would they smile?

I'd say it's quite obvious that it's because the early weeks of pre season are normally fitness based. Players prefer to get the ball out rather than be beasted for days at a time being beep tested and doing fitness drills. Unless you are looking to propagate an agenda of course, then it's clearly a comment against the previous manager.o_O

FFS. Why not a positive comment by Harris about the new regime. Aren't we all looking for positive signs of a good future.

Hardly going to slag of the last management team is he. It's a simple answer to a question which would be better put to clough rather than Adkins. he doesn't want to start a war with ex managers and current staff.

Why not just a statement that they hate doing fitness drills? Why does it have to be a dig as the last guy and a positive about the new one?
It's just a throwaway totally understandable comment, no subtext.

A guy on ITV posted a piece somewhere that it was a pre-season "prank" with both Harris and Howard getting in the phrase "balls out" in their interviews, that NA was aware of that and gave a wry smile in response!

Ah ok, thought there was more to it than just a dig at the previous manager.

Thought it was the implication that preseason is normally hard running to get the fitness up. I should've known better

This anti-Clough bollocks is becoming really stupid now and completely destroying certain posters credibility. Move the fuck on FFS!
