The majority of people in Sheffield don't even speak properly and people just are not educated to the same level. Do people go up to people at matches and tell them they didn't say that sentence correctly?

I fucking hate keyboard warrior grammar police and half of you are probably dee dars anyway!

Yes and no.

I suppose there is an analogy with Bert's continual referring to himself in the third person, which I (and many others) find annoyingly self referential and which I (and others) have not failed to point out to him. However, Bert strikes me as the sort of person who takes that sort of criticism in his stride.

This a new guy with - what some might think - an idyiosyncratic method of expressing himself. It seems to me a little uncharitable to respond to his post by having a go at his style.

Daz, you are right about so many things, but I am going to have to fall out with you about Bert. The man(?) is a Peter Cookalike comic genius.

That is all.

TarquinDelouche actually likes Bert's style. It takes great discipline to remain in character for so long.

Also, the fact that he hasn't posted too many times is irrelevant to me. I'm sure these aren't his first ever attempts at the written word. If they are, then fair enough and I have nothing but respect for him. I hope he found my advice helpful for the future.

Question though: why is it acceptable for someone to willingly inflict excessive punctuation on others but unacceptable for someone to say they think it's unnecessary?

We're getting in meta territory here. You think someone typing with lots of punctuation marks is annoying. I think someone pointing that out is annoying. Neither is "unacceptable" in any objective sense. It's all about one's personal views.

I don't know about you, but I don't see my role as some Lone Ranger of the S24su board, dedicated to wiping out bad writing, wherever I find it.

There's obviously room in the world for a board like this and a board like BladesMad. People will gravitate to the board that suits them.

Do you verbally educate people at games Darren or does cowardice rule?

I am afraid his humour escapes me. Mind you, I don't fine Peter Cook funny either.

The written word and the spoken word are and always have been two different things.

It's all a bit pointless anyway - the tranny window is shut until January.

All we can do is loan and even that is limited because of the rules of so many loans in a match day squad.

If we were going to shell out it would have been done before the window closed - in fact it was with Baxter and Cuvelier coming in.

No new loans will arrive until the end of Sept if they are to become permanent - that's because of the 93 day rule.

Expect to see the same squad battle it out for at least the next three matches.

Because you are quite openly trying to make him look like a twat in public, when it's you who's offended by the extra microsecond it took you to skip over the !!*'s.

If it bothers you, PM him.

No, because it's much easier to be rude to someone over the internet. But you are correct.

This forum has always had the 'no txt spk' rule and an expectation that posters will post something that can be read by the majority visiting the site and that personal abuse would not be tolerated. Might have been a genuine attempt to make this different to BM, or even an attempt to discourage those from BM to post on here, but to know for certain you would need to ask Foxy.

Whatever, it built a decent sized following with these ideals in place and it generally encouraged constructive and intelligent debate that you may not have found elsewhere. With that in mind, it's hardly surprising that people can get a bit 'precious' about the quality of the writing.
