We are running out of games

It's certainly getting more difficult NOT to believe we'll finally do it.

I think we'll need 2 or 3 good signings for next season. Barnsley have proved it's possible to thrive without spending a fortune, but on the other hand, I've been surprised that Wigan have struggled because I thought they had a strong squad when they went up.

The other thing is being able to maintain it once you've stayed up, Charlton managed a couple of seasons and now Wolves are struggling.

I've said on another thread, for me the key will be how Wilder has us playing as we'll likely spend more time without the ball.
Wolves are struggling because they've been badly run. They've invested plenty of money but then replaced a decent manager with a gamble. The gamble didn't pay off. I doubt they'll go down and I think Lambert will sort them out for next season.

Similarly, Wigan sacked their manager and took a gamble. It hasn't worked.

Providing we stick with Wilder we'll be OK.

Updated stats after yesterday;

Based on season form:

Blades 92
Bolton 83
Fleetwood 82
Bradford 77
Millwall 76
Scunny 76

Based on last 8 form:

Blades 91
Fleetwood 83
Millwall 83
Bolton 81
Bradford 77
Scunny 64

Aside from a monumental fall from grace, and a magnificent run by a couple of teams, realistically, 5/6 wins might be enough.

Other teams slipping up has been key for our push. We never do it the easy way, so im sure there will be some frustrating draws or defeats to come, but other teams slipping up is a good reassurance.

We have a far better team than Scunthorpe or indeed any team in this league. Even the awesome, non-stop, relentless juggernaut that is Fleetwood came unstuck yesterday, as anyone who has watched football for a while knew they would.
Punchy, sometimes things happen in football, that even people who've been watching for a while don't expect. Leicester last year is a spectacular example. I agree that this feels like a promotion season so far, but there are still 10 games to go and stuff can happen. All I'm saying is that it's a long way from being over. I cant stand the "we are shit threads" that crop up after every poor game nor the "we've won the league" threads after 36 games. Big game Tuesday

Tis the way of things, would Chelsea be as far clear but for the inconsistency of Citeh, Arse and Liverpool.

That aside, despite appearing as though we've stuttered a bit, we're averaging 2 points a game which is bang on promotion form in any season, any league.

Scunthorpe have collapsed in the last 9 games. They were scrapping for top spot with us, confidence is a powerful force in football. It doesn't matter what people put on here but why count your chickens in a game that always throws up surprises and twists and turns

What Scunny do is nothing to do with us.

As for counting chickens or writing on here - quite a few on here know a team when thy see one because as well as being Blades are students of football, and this season, in this division, there is no one better and there hasn't been anyone better since October/November time.

your way a head of yourself. We are going to need to strengthen quite a bit to be competitive in the championship. Moore, Fleck , coutts, maybe Duffy , Sharp and Samir. Possibly Oconnell, that's it I think that might be able to hold there own. Pace will be an issue if we go up. And defenders.

I think Freeman and Basham can play a part for us. Possibly Coutts too. I think most of our current first team squad can contribute but what we will need are those 3 or 4 players better than anything we already have.

1 will need to be a forward to take the load off Sharp.

One will need to be a centre half to take the load off Jake Wright (EEL won’t be here and we’ll need an experienced, physical player there probably to partner O’Connell if we go to a back 4).

Then it depends on how we play. Think we’ll need to add some width of some sort whether it’s in a wing back or out and out winger. If we stick to 352, we might want another central midfield player because I think we’ve got plenty who can contribute, I think we need one more of Fleck’s standard or even better at that level.

Can see us replacing Long with another deputy more likely to challenge Moore.

A drop or lack of confidence and you become on the wrong side of fine margins .

Next stop Swindon .

That’s true but with the bottom 5 to play and our record against bottom half teams, hopefully the margins won’t be fine.

We’ve to play Swindon who we’ve already beat 4-0, Vale who we’ve already beat 4-0, Chesterfield who we’ve already beat 4-1, Oldham who we’ve already beat 2-0, Coventry who we’ve already beat away.

If we win those 5 games that takes us to 87 points. Even if we draw 3 and lose 2 of the other 5 we hit 90. Can’t see anyone else picking up that many.
