We’re not making the Play Offs…..simple maths

For the past few weeks I’ve been swaying between us sneaking into the Play Offs or falling short.

As we’re half way through the season I’ve just had a quick look at what points we might realistically reach and where that would put us.

Obviously Coventry are storming the league but if we look at Middlesbrough 2nd with 43 points and Ipswich 3rd with 38 points, I think we can agree a second half haul of 40 points would be a cracking effort.

That, combined with our current total of 26 points, would put us on 66 points.

Unfortunately, history shows us that in the last 10 seasons, that amount would not get us into 6th spot. Last season was the closest where Bristol City finished on 68 points but most seasons you need to be well into the 70’s.

I’m now at the point where I’m just going to enjoy the highs and lows of the next 23 games and hopefully see a rebuild to allow us to see a better attempt at promotion next year.
Oh yes we are. An 8 point gap has been clawed back many many many times. COYRAWW 🔴⚪⚫❤️❤️❤️⚽🍺🍺🍺

We didn't win a game until the 27th September, but could have done the double over three teams this season by Sunday. Football's a funny old game.

My Dad said much the same thing towards the end of the match today. Very strange.

It's plain as today that we'll prolong any heartache and disappointment for as long as possible (anyone that's watched us a while knows this) Expect us to end up on 70 pts losing the last 3 of the season.

It’s an excellent turnaround and we seem to be getting better.

We’re dispatching some very decent players with aplomb.

By the time we finish against Oxford we could be 5 off the play offs and single figures off second.

Let’s just take one game at a time and not get too cocky but we are starting to get some serious momentum now.

Every year we are pushing for promotion or trying to avoid relegation. The way this season started I thought it was the latter then wilder started to pick up a few points and I thought a nice mid table finish just try to enjoy the matches it will make a change to be mid table. Now ?

The transfer window is a big opportunity because we stand to strengthen more than could ever normally be possible

Not because of who we might bring in, but because of who will leave. The result could be a squad significantly stronger and more condensed. It could swing massively in a short time

5 or 6 below standard players out and 3 or 4 good players in would transform the squad into a top end one

If we do that and are within 6 points of 6th at the end of January, we should get in there

Starting to believe it's possible. There are 5 teams (in my opinion) we have to make up 8 points on and will likely sustain a play off push. A few teams up there will stutter obviously, as can we, but there's 63 points on the table still.

Next two games (Oxford and Charlton) we really need to be taking 6 points from, 4 as an absolute minimum.

We then have a run of four tough games:
Southampton (a)
Ipswich (h)
Millwall (a)
Boro (h)

Come out of that 4 with 7 points or more and then I'll start to listen about potential Wembley heartache again. Right now I'm just grateful that after Wrexham, we seem to have come back strong and are now as close to the play offs as we are away from relegation and that seemed like a pipe dream as recently as 5 weeks ago.

4500/1 looks tasty especially with a new billionaire owner coming in and the massive potential of the unique brand that's is Sheffield Wednesday.

Got to be honest, it's doable. I mean, they are a MASSIVE club, with hundreds of thousands of faithful, ardent supporters and a world class football ground, some of the best players outside the Premier League and were formed in 1867.

Hundred quid on them running away with the title this year is money well spent ...

With our track records we will ( maybe) achieve points that NORMALLY get you into the playoffs.
BUT this year the team in sixth will have more points than any other team has ever achieved to get to sixth.

It's the Blades way.

Rubbish.

The incentive to get into the top 6 should be massive

Because there's not a single good team outside the top 2
i dont even think the top 2 are anything special even coventry are showing signs of flagging a bit and boro are inconsistent still lots of games to go and quite a few of the top 6 still to come to us beat oxford and theres a chance we might only be 6 points away

If we come out of that run of 4 with 8-9 points and take 6 in our next 2 games then i still wouldnt talk about Wembley... I'd be talking automatics lol.

unbelievable if I had said before the season stated we will take 6 points off Leicester by New Years day and not be in the top six you would have laughed

Deluded about what? play offs, promotion or just being an optimistic blade ?
Keep up.........who are usually referred to as the Deluded on here?

Hint: they are 4500/1 for promotion.

It’s only a week or so since we conceded 5 to a side not in the top six. “serious momentum” is a little exaggerative.

interesting the bookies have us at 8/1 down from 20/1 I had a cheeky £20 @ 20/1

4,500-1? If Wednesday win every game between now and the end of the season, they wouldn't even GET to the play-offs, never mind win them!!
Max they can get is 59 points!
Three more defeats and they can't realistically even stay up!

Simple fact…..carry on like we are, during the second part of the season and we definitely are making playoffs.
