In terms of performances in our 'giant killing' history?

I thought last night we saw was a complete team performance - work ethic, controlled pressing, attacking intent, flowing football, we weren't bullied at all, not one player was prepared to leave that field on the losing side.

A lot of our other exploits under Bassett and Warnock have come from mainly one thing - graft. Yes we of course had the moments of quality, but last night we showed that quality constantly. Last night was not a fluke, it wasnt luck, it was more than deserved - we were the better team.

I hope that was the catalyst for an upturn in the league - there did seem a togetherness and determination from the fans and players at the end. If it was the catalyst then it would be the perfect one, because that performance deserved more than the prize of a semi-final for a League 1 team.

There was not any of last seasons which we did not deserve, so difficult to say if it was the best? but it is certainly up there.
In 02/03 we also deserved most of the cup results.

I'd put it a close second behind winning at Villa last year.

Beating Arsenal 1-0 when we were in the 4th Division was also impressive, though of course we lost the tie.

I know what he is saying ,we played some excellent football last night ,we looked better than them in every department and they are no mugs ,they have outplayed many premier league sides this season and it was virtually their first 11 available.

A bit of perspective...I thought Southampton looked better at the start, but it seemed like the confidence simply drained away as the game progressed. They had a spell at the start of the second half, but we coped really well with the threat (such as it was) on the whole.

UTB!

Oh and the media did not mention we played a slightly weakened team with a debut for a 17 YO

Arsenal at home (1-0, Carl Veart) might be the best, having held them at Highbury (1-1 Wright, Whitehouse).

I'd put beating Man U 2-1 at the lane in early 90's with the "this mans left foot is magic" for sheer brilliance and a game that had everything. We were down, we were up, they had a penalty, they missed it, we were hanging on etc etc.

That lofted goal over Schmeichel was a thing of beauty. Quite the opposite to Hoylands goal (would that have been ruled out for handball these days?!).

Were we in the same division at the time?

We were but we were in effect worlds apart.

We hammered L**ds in the League Cup in Sept 1970. Leeds were one of the few strongest teams in Europe. We attacked throughout the game (more than we did in the 3-0 win in the league in August 1971), Tudor had a shot that hit the bar in the 1st minute and we still created several chances but the ball wouldnt go into the net until TC's solo goal. Addison even had a good goal disallowed

True - but when you watch the replays not one Man United player appeals.
Indeed, but I don't think anyone really saw it clearly (obviously including the ref), in real time it just looked like a scramble that eventually went in, only the replay showed that it bounced up and smacked his hand on the way into the net.

You'll never beat 5th May 1990...

Give over. Someone's just told him he's been compared to Hoyland and Basham.

Thing I remember about that game was the media reporting afterwards
loads of stuff about us encroaching on the penalty the handball but most of all the point where Ferguson noticed the camera on him and shouted to his players to 'keep playing football' gave a real glimpse into his psyche and that's when I knew we had won

Thanks Silent, saved me the bother.

That's my best right there. Villa Park last season topped it as well for me.
Was right up there though.

I'd have given it all up for a win against (put shitty Div 3 team of choice right here) though. MY ARSE.

After 10 mins I wondered if we were going to get a kick. Then it all changed, we starting playing some of the best football I've seen from a Blades team in a very long time. Best ever is a matter of judgement, but as yesterday was my birthday it made for a brilliant end to the day.

I have seen virtually every giant-killing performance we have pulled off during the last 30 years.

Last night was right up there with the very best of them.

Out of those performances i don't remember any of them where we was completely better than the opposition in every single department as we was last night

Gary Hamson 1-0 vs Liverpool at the Lane.
That would be my choice too.

Whatr a night that was.

Last night was up with the best but the thinking about the Liverpool game still raises my hairs now.

I guess a lot depends on your age as to which is the best.
