I did exactly the same as you Jon Bon II for exactly the same reason. I stuck that combination for 20 minutes before it was too much to take. Hendrie is bad enough on his own. And I like Warnock in general but that was excruciating. At least DAZN just had the one bloke and he wasn't editoralising or reminiscing about black boots every two minutes

In the short time I had Sky on I actually heard Warnock say "I like Sander Berge, me". Given the way said player drifts in and out of games I can't think of a player less likely to get many minutes in any side Warnock ever managed.

And he said Rush and Dalglish played for Liverpool when he was "a kid". So I'm not even sure the old fella's memory is up to much either.

Wish Sky etc would offer an option of crowd noise but no commentary. You don't need commentary when you watch a game live. Why is it always forced on us on TV?

As for Warnock's punditry, he didn't really offer any tactical insights beyond comments such as 'I like Sander Berge me, right player'. But if we're forced to listen to a pundit he isn't bottom of the list just because he's a Blade and can be amusing.

I think Sky see Warnock as the next Chris Kamara. Before long he'll be doing match summaries while having the piss taken out of him by the presenters in the studio.

I was fine with his actual punditry, he's an old school football man and I agree with a lot of him re fouls etc. The Neil Warnock story hour however got very tedious, very quickly.

Cue pundit comment, ‘Team B’ have been the better side. Eventually Team A go 2-1 up, cue pundit; ‘Team A’ have really shown their class today, Team B just can’t live with them.

Personally I like listening to Warnock, he’s entertaining and calls it accurately enough without being swayed by the scoreline, unlike the others who change their minds like indecisive Dave on The Fast Show and ‘He Didn’t Wanna Do That’ contributions from Andy Hinchcliffe.

He talked about this after the match, saying that he really likes both clubs and said they are both great clubs.

He then admitted that he didn't like the idea of either team losing when they are both "his clubs".
So a draw was always going to be his preferred result, admitted that's the reason he was pleased when United equalised.
He also said that a draw was a fair result based on chances and was a decent result for both clubs.

I like Warnock, at least he has personality but it was noticeable that he was doing a lot of talking as though it was his own show.

I like actually like Warnock, but he's not a commentator. Stick him on Soccer Saturday where he can joke around with Jeff and the boys and I'm sure he's fine, but rambling on in the middle of a game about the first time you met Adel Taarabt is not really analysis. It's not an after dinner speech and we'd really rather not hear about the time you "nearly signed" so-and-so, or you and Lee Hendrie bantering about Paddy Kenny.

Hendrie is shite too, but he's presumably a sympathy hire.

Mick McCarthy is excellent. He was on with Daniel Mann (by far the best football commentator) for the Burnley game and was funny, knowledgeable and self-deprecating....a real treat when compared with the likes of Lee Hendrie.

In between the misplaced lengthy anecdotes and simplistic comments ("you need a good goalkeeper don't you, Lee?"), some of his analysis on the game was actually quite good.

He's ill suited to being a co-commentator, nobody wants to listen to him for 90 minutes, but if he was restricted to football analysis at Half Time he'd probably be alright.

He was spot on about QPR having a focal point to feed off at the top of the pitch. Dikes was able to bring their talented attackers into play. Someone further up the thread mocked his choice for MOTM but I agreed with it. Dikes or Chair.

We had to play it along the ground, through the lines and it kept resulting in turnovers of possession and we couldn't get a foothold or any momentum.
As soon as we stuck Jebbison on and changed shape the game turned in our favour.

All football commentary annoys me. Some, like last night, are unbearable - especially when it's us labouring with all the pace and power of a tractor reversing out of a swamp.

The actual commentators never know when to shut up, and it's a rare thing indeed if any ex-pro sitting next to them offers any nugget of wisdom at all.

When you watch something like the Big Match Revisited you realise how far gone commentary now is. The likes of Hugh Johns, Brian Moore and Gerald Sinstadt (and for that matter Barry Davies or David Coleman who aren't on that show) were able to strike a proper balance.

The tide turned when LWT decided to employ an ex pro foil for their "expert" comments. Unfortunately that person turned out to be Jimmy Hill which set a low bar. Sadly even that's rarely been exceeded since.

The one old-school commentator I blame for the current plague is Motson. I never liked his train-spotter manner and he's responsible for all the "this is the first time since 1995 that a team from South Yorkshire has played one from West London on the first Monday of January" school of verbal diarrhoea. And I definitely don't need their constantly changing opinions depending on the scoreline, which someone else identified earlier.

When we sacked Warnock back in the day I thought it was an error at the time and that judgement proved to be correct. Now however I do think he is not as sharp mentally as he once was. Finally, I find it very difficult to believe that he really wanted a draw. He was a Blade as a lad and I know of no one who changes their allegiance from their boyhood club. Once a Blade always a Blade.

I'm sure that part of a pundit's brief is to be as neutral as possible. What do people want Warnock to do to prove his Blade credentials? Shout "Gooo on Billy!" when Sharp runs onto a pass? Break into a rendition of "Swinging a Pig"?

Warnock did celebrate Egan's goal - probably with more enthusiasm than most fans at the Lane celebrated our goals against Coventry on Boxing Day. But still, he can't be a proper Blade because he complements other clubs' fans and lives in Cornwall.

There's a lot of dislike for him and I understand it, but to his credit he does the one thing that no other commentators or co-commentators seem to do and that is call out people for diving.

Hendrie falls into the usual "ooooh well there isn't a lot of contact there" whereas Warnock full on states it's ridiculous that a player has thrown himself to the ground when there's no proper contact. If more of the media started highlighting this and making a big thing about it instead of just accepting it then maybe the powers that be would actually take some proper steps to eradicate it from the game.

His bias towards our opponents is bordering on obsessive. It's as bad as the Welsh/Scottish support for England's opponents but more thinly veiled.

The sound on our stream occasionally cut out last night. They were the best commentary bits.
