So do you agree that we should be giving Trusty a spot, Bergen Blade ? I thought he was supposed to be the mobile, big lad that we needed, but I don't know enough about him, so hoping you or some of our other lads know,
I haven't watched him closely enough to offer an in depth view. Birmingham fans' views were great. think Robinson's done reasonably well at LCB, and was probably a first choice for continuity reasons. But if Trusty is the better player we need to try him soon.

It would also be interesting to hear Hecky's thoughts on trying Trusty or Robinson in Egan's position.

Who gets his head on EVERYTHING and doesn't have the turning circumference of the titanic.

Doesn't have to be the most technically gifted with the ball, in fact don't care if can't pass more than 5 yards.

Just an old fashioned CB blocker who has decent size, physicality and pace (unlike our current Captain Fantastic)

Answers on a postcard below 👇
6ft 6 Harry Souttar? Although milk turns quicker.

5 foot 9 Jarrod Bowen was winning every header today. It isn't about height, it's about shocking defensive coaching.

A lot of Champ level (at best defenders being suggested and not forgetting the strong likelihood that no money will be available in Jan, especially if Utd remain as hot favourites to go down.

A very likely case of going with what we've got.

Always thought Freckleton looked decent, but not even in Chesterfield's squad last 2 games..not sure if he's injured, but I think they have been playing him at Left Back.

Right, didn't know that mate...he would have been useful to have around as back up with all the injuries at centre back,or maybe even left back.
Agree, he did really well in pre season, seemed at the same level as the regulars. He's another left footer though, I think we may have kept him here if he'd been right footed.

Yes I thought the same, always impressed when I've seen him.
We've had a problem with LCB since JOC,and now we are lacking RCB's.

In pre season I thought I saw some similarities in defensive qualities to the excellent Jake Wright. The intensity and focus in defending, keeping in the right position at all times in case someone slipped up, sprinting, not jogging, into these positions. Compared to Wright he's also better on the ball and faster.

I also saw him have a poor game for the U21s before he went out on loan, so he's obviously got things to work on as well.

I thought Trusty was like that against Fulham..kept getting blocks in,and headers, esecially first half, always in the right place..he did give the ball away a couple if times 2nd half though, but apart from that played well.
Yes Freckleton is still young so hopefully he has a good loan spell.

Take it Potter and Barrett aren't up to it? Both right footers. (Out on loan I know)

Barrett is yet to play for Solihull Moors, last I checked. Potter is left footed and has been in and out of the side for Barnet. Too early to write off either of them.

Daniel Ayala, 32yr old, CD, Right-footed, (OK!, he's only!) 6'3", but currently a free-agent.
Does anyone else think it could be worth bringing him in on short-term deal, to ease our defensive problems!?.
Would/could be cover for Egan (injury) and offer alternatives in allowing different defensive formations
Has a slight disciplinary/card prob at times, but, Big, strong and good in the air (to help McB defend set pieces!)
Always comes across as a Leader on the pitch (something we need badly).

YES!?,... or Should I get my coat!!??? 🤷‍♂️

German internationals Mustafi or Boateng would love Sheffield 😎

This is all that is wrong with the club.

We have to move with the times, and this old fashioned view of how defenders need to play is half the reason we are in the mess we are.

Opponents can press us knowing two things.

1. Our defenders aren’t good enough to keep the ball under that pressure.
2. They also don’t have the ability to make a good “press breaking” ball into a forward or midfield player to get us out.

So I fail to see how bringing in a lump to head it anywhere, and who struggles to actually kick the ball is going to help. Its simply going to lead to even worse.

The issue we have is nothing to do with organisation or individuals defensive ability, we just surrender territory so easily and end up under pressure for the vast majority of the game because we can’t get the ball up the pitch enough and keep it there.

So the sooner we can replace the current lot with players who are comfortable with the ball at their feet in their own box the sooner we will be able to allow our midfield to leave them to it, keep the forwards higher up the pitch and wait for the ball into them to get us forwards.
Until then our season is defined….the tactic against us will be the same every week, and we will do well to win 3 games all season.

As has been said a numerous threads, albeit not yet this one…
It doesn’t matter if there are free agents out there. We can sign as many as we like, but can’t play them until January as our 25 man squad has been names. Only exceptions are for U21 players.

Norway beat Cyprus 4-0 last night. Peterborough's Hector Kyprianou had a decent game for Cyprus. 22 years old, about 6'3 played LCB, but is right footed and plays in midfield for his club. 3 goals this season. Anybody watched him before?

You say that, but have a look at the goals we've conceded this season.
Mostly from not being able to defend crosses coming into our box. It was embarrassing watching our lads against Newcastle.

Sometimes you need a big old school defender than clears the lot out. Egan has never really been that guy. When McBurnie isn't on the park, we're terrible.

Speed, agility, knowledge are far more useful than simply adding height.

You can’t defend most of the game, averages suggest alone that eventually they score.

We need to be able to take the pressure off, get the ball and get up the pitch with it for periods of time. That’ll have a greater positive effect on our defending than anything else.

That's fine n all but if we're going to look like we're going to concede on every cross it doesn't matter how good our CBs are as ball players.

Egan is just too small and too slow and needs upgrading ASAP
