I was worried the minute I saw his shit cartoon tatts. His lack of mobility and workrate's been discussed but the shit tatts are the real route of the problem. You can't expect someone with SpongeBob and Bugs Bunny tattoos to be your talisman.

I could be wrong here, but didn't someone point out on another thread that that stat only for tackles attempted, and for tackles won he was way down the list?
I posted something about cautioning against using that “tackles” stat. It’s number 133 on this thread. Not sure how to share it, though.

Essentially, though, yeah, the tackles stat is for tackles attempted, not won. He’s nowhere near the top for tackles won, and he’s only about 4th in our team for successful tackles per 90. For sure, he should get credit for being in the right place to even attempt a tackle, but that stat on its own doesn’t tell the whole story.

I’d hazard a guess Norwood is ahead of him for tackles won.

1st goal is Thomas slipping as he goes to challenge Semenyo allowing him to cut in,

Hamer leaving space and allowing his man to run off the back of him,

Trusty getting pushed in the back by Solanke when trying to cover allowing Tavernier to easily cut in

and Robinson stopping to try and play Solanke off when the ball goes to Tavernier so he's not there to pressure him as he shoots.

Souza drops in for Thomas and covers the man out wide, if your take away is to heap blame on Souza I don't know what to say

On the last three of the four photos he’s stood still in the same spot 😂

Difficult to argue that he's filled 'the Berge role'. In that a big 6ft+ midfielder who's as wet as a girl guide, ambles around, doesn't tackle, doesn't win headers, doesn't pass it forwards.

He gets 10/10 for replacing the ineffectualness of Berge!

Id have Berge back in a heartbeat. He walks into this team.

Souza up there with Ebbrell, and Brewster, as our worst ever big money signing.
If he was Hecky’s no 1 target, in the closed season, you have to worry about his judgement on players.Add Triaore, Slimane and Larouci, to those calls and what a shit show our preparations for the hardest league in the World have been.Don’t know who was responsible for the last 3, but Souza was on Hecky, according to the Prince.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Osborn offers way more in midfield, than Souza does, which is an indication, as to how much shit we are in.

Souza isn’t good enough to carry Berge boot bag into the changing rooms, he’s absolutely shite, if Souza was £10 million quid which I have my doubts about then Berge is worth £1 billion of the smakeroonies.

Souza is a right waste of space, I’d rather have Osborn in there and I don’t even rate him quality wise either, at least Osborn can fucking move though. 🤦‍♂️😂😂

We’re a right shitshow of a club from top to bottom and no cunt is standing up to be counted, including this waste of space.

Slimane can’t even get in to the team because Hecky says he’s not tactically up to it, so why bring him in then you useless set of twats.

Not aimed at you by the way mate, just had to get that off my chest. 😁

Can't work out how he justifies keeping his starting place.

I'd much rather see Osborn, Fleck or Slimane start.

He's shit, end of story. And it's clear some of our players don't like him either. What a waste of £10m FFS!

The midfield is the first thing that needs sorting to either make us difficult to break down or to possess an attacking threat (I'll not get greedy and ask for both 😉)

Hamer is being played out of position to accommodate the other two. The other two have neither the strength, pace, or energy to compete against even the most limited of opposition nevermind the top teams.

We can't wave a magic wand on this but we must have 2 players who will not stop running and can put their foot in?

With little to no creativity or ability of at least 67% of our centre midfield to join up with the attack, play 2 up front at all times, at least a partnership may be able to fluke a goal or 2. Our smallest player on his own isn't!

He followed his man wide and his man stayed wide. Would you prefer him to just randomly chase their players in the middle and leave his man free?

I’ve just watched the reply back of their first goal based on Rodley comment and I honestly can’t see where either of you are coming from.

He's absolutely nowhere near that man either, who retreated back down the pitch once the play moved inside.

He's stood in No Man's Land, effecting nothing, and making zero effort to get back involved.

To me he’s been poor but better than Norwood this season and as far I was concerned they were meant to be battling for the same position. If you give me a choice if the 2 it’s definitely Souza even though I’m not a massive fan but Norwood is honestly an embarrassment in this league.
im not norwoods biggest fan in fact i dont want him anywhere near the team but at least when he slows play down or gets overpowered by an opposition player you know he is there filling some kind of role as awful as he might be
souza is like the gorilla in that basketball video

have to agree with all of that souza simply isnt interested and needs binning norwood is just not good enough or athletic enough and hamer is being wasted playing out of position we need a new manager with new tactics im 50/50 with wilder coming back not ideal but anybody is better than this rubbish that is being served up just now

I've watched that first goal numerous times. It looks like Hamer not tracking his player into the box that leads to the goal.

One positive that has been around for a number of years is our dressing room unity.

I wonder if there is now a split down there. Players such as Baldock are getting a bit pissed off with some players just not turning up and doing the basics that defines being a Sheffield United player.

Shoutbox has mentioned bringing back Blaster in January.

He’s out wide because that’s exactly where the player he was marking went. You can literally see him following that player on the replay. Would you have preferred him to leave that player free on the wing?

The player was retreating back towards his own goal. Also Souza is stood nowhere near him anyway. And he's stood still as a statue for some reason.

apparently he was heckys no 1 target

Hecky the “yes man” said that about a few of them….we heard it about a few that ended up elsewhere and heard the same with Wilder too….usually as they ended up elsewhere.

But if he was…then Hecky needs the boot as we are going to need a fair few players next season.

What’s scary is this guy ain’t it for next season either. At least you knew with 6/7 of our team last time would be good championship players.

Our squad and, in particular the new players, aren’t even good champ players

All day long….im worried that the current squad gets relegated from the champ and would be turned over by the pigs now if we drew them in the cup!

He’s stood near enough that if they play the ball out wide he can shape up to stop their player having a free cross of the ball. Their player retreating is irrelevant. He was going forward and would’ve been on the wing all on his own had Souza not tracked his run. By the time the player had stopped his forward run there’s absolutely no time for Souza to get back into the middle. He’s stood still because the player he’s marking stops his forward run. What do you want him to be doing? He can’t get back into the middle because A) there isn’t time, and B) he needs to stay close enough to the wide man in case it goes out to him.

I honestly can’t understand what you’re expecting him to do differently in that situation. Yes, hindsight says it would’ve been better for him to be in the middle to cut out the pass but there’s plenty of other players in the middle already. Had he left his man out wide and the ball had gone out there, leading to a goal, I guarantee you’d have hammered him for leaving his man.

There’s plenty to complain about when it comes to Souza but blaming him for that first goal yesterday feels a little desperate.

I think Souza's problem is between his ears. He put effort in against Wolves and produced a brilliant tackle when chasing back. The problem is he is not switched on most of the games.
Continually losing games through some of the team not putting an effort in is the fastest way to split the dressing room.

Looking at the team overall it seems to me there is a huge coaching deficit. We keep seeing the same thing over and over again. I have been looking at Egan committing unnecessary fouls since he arrived. Brewster when not injured doesn't know or want to run into good positions.
Bogle and Lowe haven't improved.

As a coach you have to coach the individual player on weaker aspects of his game.

Slimane can’t even get in to the team because Hecky says he’s not tactically up to it, so why bring him in then you useless set of twats.
I'm sure he is tactically up to it in a normal team, but when the tactics are "stand 5 yards from your man and wait until it's passed around you and then sprint after it. Make sure you leave gaps everywhere so the opposition always has a free man and we are outnumbered all of the pitch. Then you've gotta hope the ball drops to one of ours because we sure aren't going to win it back. Once you have it, don't even think about it, just hit it towards one of the corner flags. We call them the channels. The opposition can't score from there so we're safe. Think rugby. We're better off with them having the ball near their goal than us having the ball anywhere. Hopefully we'll have a player in the right area to go for the ball, but don't worry if they get surrounded by 3 players with no teammates within 20 yards. Hopefully something will happen. Now get your laces tied and get out there and hope for the best. Hope hope hope".

Souza must be the only Brazilian player who does not know how to win a tackle and pass the ball forward. not a good fit with Norwood in my opinion.

Worse than Norwood???

WTF ....Norwood is nowhere near the standard he used to be but even today he showed much much more than this guy .

Suza is truly awful - why did Hecky pull Suza - an £11m signing , a young , supposed athletic enforcer - rather than Norwood ?

FFS - Suza was the worst player on the pitch by a country mile
He was awful but it was impossible to be the worst player by a country mile yesterday. The other 10 that started were absolute dogshit to a man and you can't be that much worse than absolute dogshit.

There is a good player in there, just needs the players around him to step up and a manager to figure out his strengths and use them. He is NOT a match winner, he is a ball winner. So use him in midfield to win those tackles and get the ball back and set up the next attack. I didn't hear his name once in the first half, either he is crap or severely not motivated. Either way a change is needed.
