I don't know why we played three at the back our wing backs were always going to be pushed back, to be fair to Bogle he did manage to get forward a few times as well as keep Grealish quiet

I don’t think we’ll see too much of the Norwood/Souza central midfield. It was a case of needs must today.

We played 5-2-3 when they scored their first. If we are going to have a two man central midfield they have to be superfit, very mobile and focused.

In terms of our organisation, two things made us especially vulnerable. As Man City start the attack with Akanji, Norwood is too far away from Souza, and there is a too big gap between JR and Trusty (red lines).

Foden runs into this gap, but Souza manages to stop him. But the ball drops to Rodri and Norwood (yellow circle) is too slow and too far from the action to come to the rescue. Fodri runs at the unprotected defence and scores.

Similarly with the second goal, there's a too big gap between JR and the wide centre back (Baldock) being pulled out of position (red line):

Slimane and Norwood (blame who you want) don't have the energy to track Foden, who then sets up the goal.

Another Souza performance yesterday. Runs around puts his foot in well. Never in the right spot , doesn’t track runners and is sometimes good in possession sometimes horrific.

The side that finished last season had a midfield ( Berge , Doyle , McAtee ) were all comfortable of the ball , could pass a carry the the ball & offered us a lot of creativity even if it was in the division below add to that we had a very talented maverick in Ndiaye who could turn a game on its head with one piece of skill or ingenuity .
Out of all the names players above we have only kept one & replaced them with 2 honest but bang average defensive midfielders ( Souza & Hamer ) & restored a player whose well past his best Norwood in there , all I can think is McAtee he must be as frustrated as fuck in the current set up.
The investment from the owner hasn’t been anywhere near what it needed to be , the approach & planning in pre-season was amateurish & the recruitment has been poor as a result of these policies .
In short we’ve reaped what we’ve sowed ⚔️

Souza is now getting up to speed and has improved dramatically under Wilders tuition. He gives us lots of energy and breaks down opponents play (great pressing). Against lesser opposition he will be an important player in Wilders side.
