For balance, I live near Sunderland and most of them think we have a fantastically strong squad and expect us to see out the rest of the season top 2.

Some even held this view at Christmas when we were against the ropes squad wise.

Of course, some of them are fucking gobshites šŸ˜… but they tend to be the thick ones or the ones that don't go to games

There are a few reasons why Sheff Utd fans hate Leeds.

1: The unfair Leeds bias both from the national media and local news channels (which are all based in Leeds).
An example is when the Sheffield clubs gain promotion to the Premier league there’s a 5 minute news report about it.
Where as when Leeds are promoted to the Premier league there’s a separate 30 minute promotion special about it…..it’s so bias.

Another example was the 1991 league cup final Sheff Wed v Man Utd on ITV.
Sheff Wed won and literally 3 minutes after the match ended….Yorkshire TV ended the transmission and showed ā€œwar of the monster trucksā€ programme.
Where as in other parts of the country ITV showed the full celebrations interviewing the manager and players etc.

The Wednesday fans complained and Yorkshire TV apologised, we all know if it had been Leeds playing the whole afternoons TV would have been re-arranged
to show the match build up and post matches interviews etc. So it’s a general Sheffield (including Wednesday fans) that have noticed the discrimination.

I’ve noticed the same how the national media have this ā€œlove inā€ towards Newcastle often calling them ā€œa giant of a clubā€
Where as Sunderland are always understated, classed as this provincial club, down on its times with good support.
If clubs like Bolton or Blackburn drew a crowd of 30K, they would receive massive publicity calling them a huge club etc
Sunderland get 40K every match and the media never bat an eye lid…..they don’t care so there’s little recognition of Sunderland’s fantastic support.

Like Sunderland……on a national level Sheffield doesn’t receive the credit it deserves…..it’s where organised football started.
In the mid 1870’s half the organised clubs (about 60) in the world were based in Sheffield, it’s the 1st place where they had organised league and cup football.
The 1st place ever, where fans were charged money to watch matches. The 1st knock out tournaments well before the FA cup.

Sheffield is the true hot bed of football where as West Yorkshire is a rugby league hotbed.
For example Leeds United were formed over 50 years after Sheffield Wednesday were formed….yes 50 years later.
Until the mid 1960’s Leeds United had no history and poor support..they are an older equivalent of Wigan Ath...a rubgy town that eventually played football.

2: Feeder club for Leeds
The United hatred is stronger than the Sheff Wed hatred because over the decades we’ve had a few big crowd favourites that went to Leeds.
The big one was Tony Currie in the 1970’s, but there’s been Mick Jones, Alex Sabella, Keith Edwards, Brian Deane etc.

3: They generally have an incredibly arrogant dislikable fan base.
Probably different now but I’ve met a few Leeds fans in the 90’s and 00’s and they talked like they are one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
I’ve found that their arrogance and delusions has been astounding, almost shocking.
So when they are struggling I think back to those types of fans and smile thinking it’s karma.
100% on the third point.

I've met lots of people who are Leeds fans, and who are really nice, rational, reasonable, normal people. Mention Leeds Utd and they transform into slavering, aggressive idiots, whose level of football knowledge hovers just above zero. The transformation is amazing. They believe they've got a god given right to be in the Premier league and challenging for the title. I've genuinely no idea why, and why they see Man Utd as their rivals. It's bizarre.

Are you me or do we have the same friendsšŸ˜‚

Unfortunately I live in Leeds so it is like Groundhog Day
I used to work there and I lived in Wakefield for a while. I've really noticed it since I moved away. There's a few here in Leicestershire, who hardly ever go, but watch all the games on TV. Perhaps the fact that I think they'll finish third is upsetting them too. 🤣🤣🤣

If we lose in a few days time, I might have to revise my opinion, whilst the zombies strip to the waist chanting Leeds, Leeds, Leeds repeatedly and talking of the glory days of 60 years ago.

In knaresboro pub last night, up here for the weekend, I walked in with my Blades hat on and a local said you’ve some cheek coming in here tonight after scamming another win, I asked him if he was a Luton fan (as a rise) and he said Leeds and I said we’ve fluked all the games this season and gone above you. I then said what’s yours a bitter with no intention to buy him drink. Wive not to pleased as he was giving me the dirties all nightšŸ˜‚ if I’d remembered I would have said we started -2 and allowed you to beat us and fluked every game and yet still above you what does it say about you.

They are still stuck in the late 90's/early 2000's. That version of Leeds went up in smoke in administration along with their PL status!

Think they struggle to accept that they are in the same bracket as clubs like us now. The current generation view Leeds as a yoyo club at best.

To be fair, they have more reason to hold this deluded view than the pigs, who are convinced they are regarded a huge club across the globe šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

They are deluded, they think they deserve to win every game win, lose or draw and every game we play we fluke and Burnley don’t deserve to win as they are boring. I would prefer them to beat Sunderland because I think it will then be down to three teams in auto race but I would love Leeds to lose at Wembley in the 94th minute fluke goal.

Leeds are the best team in the league, we all know that, the fact that we're top, and should be 2 points better off is amazing if you look at some of our performances this season, but we have a manager that loves to prove people wrong, and bleeds the club, which is probably the biggest boot up the arse the players need.
I personally hope Sunlan and weeds draw, both dropping points is the best result for us as a club, as I can't see how we beat Leeds next week, although, we've got a few days rest and I'm guessing training will be intense this week, probably our biggest game of the season, and a lot at stake!

However much I hate them I can’t say I want them to win but it’s the best result for us for the reason you said they are very unlikely to mess it up with best squad which leaves one place and three teams if Sunderland lose 2 teams and we have the advantage over the other 1.

But I can't bring myself to want Leeds or Wendy to win anything.

I'm not sure which bit of the past they're stuck in, but they're stuck in it somewhere.

The pigs are a whole different ball game entirely. They've done nothing this millenia. Another club who have flirted with administration. In fairness, Hillsborough is a living museum, it's not been painted since they last won anything, I'm sure there's a place in Wales which rebuilds houses from the respective era. If they want to look what a football ground looked like in the swinging sixties, just head to S6.

Whilst we've won bugger all for a hundred years, at least we've painted, washed our windows and kept our front step clean. 🤣

This is the sort of thing we North Yorks Blades fans have to put up with all the time, but like you, I was out with my Blades hat on last night. Got to let them know we're still around.šŸ˜‰

It should be a cracking game tomorrow night

I live in leeds so it’s worse at least you can say they ought to support their local club Harrogate Town

The view from Sunderland is that we play Leeds on Monday and if we lose and Sheffield United win - the gap between us and you lads is 8 points. Leeds will be miles ahead and for Sunderland it will be play out the rest of the season and see if someone cocks it up near the end. That's all we could do - try and win as many as possible and hope that Leeds famously bottle it or Sheffield United implode. Neither seems likely but you never know.

Sheffield United fans will be tuned in and you'll clearly want Leeds to win, which is understandable. So Monday could be effectively where the season all but ends for us as far as the automatics is concerned - thats how close it is for us. We'd still probably be 14 points clear of 5th so we'd be playing to simply consolidate 4rth in the last 13/14 games, with one eye on the play offs.

However win at Leeds and that puts the cat amongst the pigeons - so Monday is a crucial game with huge ramifications for the whole top 4 and it's our last game this season against the top 3. So Monday will probably and realistically determine whether it's a top 3 for the rest of the season or whether there is still a top 4.
Perhaps I'm crazy I want Sunderland to win, and to see Leeds fans have a sad on šŸ˜‚

A draw will do as well.

My hatred of Leeds started in The Don Revie era in the early 70’s when Leeds won several titles by just being harder than anyone else.
Also they introduced those shitty little number tags to tie up their socks.
So much to dislike about that team.
Yes they kicked anyone who could play football to death whilst playing the victim if their players got fouled. They also invented surrounding and intimidating referees to get every decision in their favour and most of the stuff disliked in the modern game. Don Revie was the subject of unproven rumours of bribery and financial irregularities. A lot said that was the reason he jumped ship from the England job to go to Saudi or wherever it was rather than just the obsession with money. Anything Leeds have ever won has been on the back of bending the rules and downright cheating.

They were an aggressive team for sure, they also had some very skilful players who had a real desire to win

Apart from when they are a league rival to us I generally couldn't care less about Leeds. Wednesday are the only team I have a hatred for, we have our little rivalries dependant on what's happening on the pitch e.g. Norwich (take your time), Coventry (tennis ball) and Wrexham (Rattled) but it quickly gets forgotten.

The trouble is, as half the country despised them, they naturally became a magnet for every nefarious, maladjusted, glory hunting headbanger knocking about in the late 60s and 70s…and the rest as they is history.
