He got 6 in the Cups, 5 against lower division opposition.

7 in 26 games in the league doesn't look so good (though of course it would be outstanding in our current side!)

Fun fact - King Keith scored 23 but was not top league scorer. He got 5 in each cup, and Colin Morris got one more in the league.

Trivia time: Edwards was top league scorer in 5 of his 7 full seasons. Who was the other player to out score him?

Alan Woodward 12 in 77-8 to Edwards' 11

Trivia time two - easy one;

Which player competed neck and neck with Sir Keith for the leading league goal scorer in season 81-82(div 4) ?

Well it couldn't have been Glen Cockerill as he didn't have one ;)
(aside from the fact that he didn't join us until '84)

I was at both but sadly I don't remember that much about the Darlo game - just that there was so much encroachment on the pitch I wonder how they managed to complete the game. Can't remember seeing any Darlo fans at all - just Blades on all four sides of the ground - can't be right but that's about all I can remember - that and the plethora of fancy dress going on.

Don't remember any Darlington fans at all but not surprising as has been mentioned it was pay on the gate and their club had advised their fans to stay clear. Quite sensible really but unusual nonetheless. One of the best away days ever and no mistake.

I played cameraman that day. We were rich by then, we had a cine camera and a ZX81.
I have some 8mm film from feethams. I haven't watched it for nigh on 30 years, I don't think I shot too much of the actual play, although I did get the second goal, and the aftermath. More crowd footage than anything else. I suppose I should dig it out someday and get it converted to dvd or whatever, providing that I can still find it. :)

You would make so many blades so happy if you could find some way of getting that footage on here. My brother converted all the old family cine films and slide stills on to dvds, great to look back on and so easy

I'd love to see that film. Don't have too many memories of that game as I went up in a removal van straight after the Limit on Friday night, and was pissed up before the day even started. Funnily enough I have a vivid recollection of people doing lines of speed in the van and someone spewing up on the floor. Seem to remember everyone climbing the floodlights including myself. I may even have passed out up a floodlight. Still, great days eh?

The club have an archive of video which I'm sure they'd love a copy of if you could find it. I know because something I did is in it for posterity.

If you do find it, have a word with Big Johnny G at the Lane.

Was in the Limit myself that night trying to Kop off with my old bird , wasn't having any of it even though she'd asked me to meet her there after being in the Blue Bell together ,
Had to walk home to Halfway that night sobered up by Frecheville , was ( ahem ) even able to earn a few bob before crashing ifor about an hour before getting into fancy dress , and meeting up outside midland station . A long but great day , piss up down clifffe on return , home to Halfway before going back into town onto west st again that night .
UTB .

I do remember that a landlady had layed on a spread for us back in Sheff but most people were so monged out by then they couldn't eat anything, and someone threw up in the pub car park. That could well have been in Attercliffe.

I really want to see Sharrow Blade's video now

We went to beer keller when we got back from darlingto, was great night out in there full of wanten women from miles!

The thing is about these games in the past where there was actually no TV coverage only people that were there can really have memories. No hangers on or glory boys. I remember more of the journey up to Darlington and before the match than the actual match itself.
On the way up there were numerous hire vans with blades fans in the back - no seats just partying in fancy dress - god knows how people weren't killed falling out the back. then in the ground - remember it backed onto the cricket ground - and those of us there early playing football before the game.
In a strange way it is that season that makes me proudest to be a blade - great support despite the disappointment of being in the fourth tier - Strange but the only time I have felt the same was the second half of this season. i can't think of a season where I am entering feeling more positive. As I live in Northampton only a couple of weeks until I see whether it is well founded

Trivial Fact #16,887: The last top-flight game not to have a video camera at the ground (and, therefore, no existing footage) was the pigs vs Man City on New Year's Day 1990 - the game that David Hirst had to go in goal after Kevin Pressman went off injured. The Blades were away at Oxford on that day, getting stuffed 3-0 (one of three heavy defeats during our promotion season).

Hirst saved a penalty didn't he? I'm glad there's no footage (the Pigs won as well).

I read that the reason there were no cameras there was because ITV got the kick off time wrong. They thought it was a 3pm start but the game kicked off at noon.

Love that picture, shame its not clearer.
Any joy getting the cine footage converted?
A possible way of doing it would be to show it on a screen or wall and film that on your phone then put it on here.

i take it we've had no joy in getting any video footage of rhe darlington game? Shame really
