Yes, FIFA - under the enlightened leadership of the corrupt Infantino - have insisted that VAR is used. Who are we to argue?

Anyway, mouthpiece of the referees' union - Chris Foy - has spoken on yesterday's incidents:

It’s not a penalty against James Ward-Prowse because while the ball did hit his arm the contact was not deliberate.
The midfielder was too close to another player and not looking at the ball so it couldn’t have been a penalty. o_O
Billy Sharp’s challenge on Stuart Armstrong endangered an opponent and warranted a red card. It was checked by VAR — as all red cards are — and it was clear that referee Lee Mason had not made an error. 😖

But that is the root of the problem, referees who’ve never played football.

I can assure Mr Foy, that having played football for over 20 years, it is relatively simple, having seen the flight of the ball, to knock it out of play with your arm whilst looking in the complete opposite direction.

Have a look at Bournemouths goal against Everton today and tell me the difference between that and McBurnies ,the only difference is Bournemouth went on to get 3 points and we get fuck all.

Its shit ,its just another inept bastard watching it on the telly and bottling decisions , see Chris Foys defence of yesterdays clusterfuck.

I wouldn't trust the referees I have seen so far to switch the telly on never mind make a split second decision #Varwankers
 
did anyone else notice that Mason was hardly ever up with play? he basically stood in the centre circle most of the time
 
Does anyone know if they are reviewing VAR at the end of the season? Or are we stuck with it now?

So there were two goals that were offside. If you're going to make the argument that either of them should have stood "because it's barely offside and should have been allowed", tell us exactly how far ahead of the last defender an attacker is allowed to be, and what your reaction would be if the attacker is an inch further ahead of that point

Simple, look at LBW in cricket, if the ball is only half hitting the stump it's still not out, has to be the whole ball.

For offside it should be the whole torso offside to over rule it, not some fuckers big toe.

As much as I want to back your VAR point everyone on here has it wrong from what I can see. The law is the problem not VAR. VAR is only enforcing bad laws such as the new handball law which is ridiculous. Oh and sorry to hang you out to dry but your cricket analogy is wrong. If the batsman is given out any part of the ball hitting any part of the stump means it’s out, it’s only if trying to overturn a not out that the half ball rule applies. Sorry.
 
The idea of VAR has to be right. There is nothing worse in sport than where the refereee/umpire gets a major decision wrong which leads to a team/player losing or not winning. Sadly I think the number of poor refereeing decisions that with the benefit of TV replays are clearly wrong have increased. To some extent this is the fault of players diving and generally “cheating”. With so much at stake particularly in football we do need a system that helps to minimise the number of wrong decisions or to put it another way to get as many crucial decisions as possible correct. VAR or it’s equivalent has been used for years in tennis, rugby and cricket. It works well in these sports and no one would dream of scrapping it although there have been refinements over the years.
The problem with football is how VAR operates. The football authorities have it appears not thought it through or trialled it properly. Coupled with that they have introduced not just VAR but at the same time have introduced new rules for the game which no one seems to understand, like handball.
They should look at 5he following changes:
1. There should be an announcement over the PA system that VAR is being engaged and the ref’s conversation with the VAR ref played over the PA
2. There needs to be consistency in its application. Judging by its inconsistency I can only assume that there are no proper guidelines on its application.
3. There should be an equivalent of umpires call in cricket for marginal off side decisions
4. Should teams be limited to so many challenges per game.

Yes they are reviewing......fine tuning how it’s implemented.
It’s here to stay but I expect there to be tweaks and improvements.
 
In effect, we now have two mutually supportive referees officiating at every game.

Everything else is just window dressing.

Whole torso isn't far enough.

The perfect example was the goal disallowed Bournemouth vs Southampton. His foot was clearly over, offside.

That should be the criteria, a clear foot over. It's off. No faffing around with milimeters.
 
When it's reviewed, if VAR is gonna still be a thing, it needs to be allowed to overule decisions. Liverpool's penalty last week, ref got it clearly wrong. VAR should have overturned. There was oen Bournemouth vs Southampton too which looked clearcut but because ref ruled no penalty, it wasn't overruled.

If VAR is gonna be a thing, it's gotta be consistently used or not at all.
 
If VAR was consistent then our first today should have been chalked off.....but Leicesters winner shouldn't have counted and we should have had a pen v Soton......at the end of the day you still have humans making a decision, so VAR is never going to be consistent....

And the offside in Leicester v Spurs was just awful.

Do us a favour VAR....fuck off and when you have finished fucking off, fuck off some more.
 
My problem today was Spurs goal getting cancelled. The still they based the offside on showed a mm or 2 of part of the attacker ahead of the defender probabbly less than 10 per cent of his body. Its not a horse race. Its not by a nose BUT the main fault was the still showed the ball still in contact with the final passers foot ie it had not been played forward . On such fine margins there needs proof there's light between foot and ball . If the rules stated more than 50 per cent of the aal will by the end of the settacker was in front it would be be clearer. To me though its changjng football too much .

The euphoria of scoring a goal will be by the end of the season be replaced by a hesitant cheer knowing there's a chance of severe disappointment . Going mental 3 minutes after the ball hits the net just isn't the same
 
VAR should have been implemented at least 10 years ago, had that happen the system would be far better than what we currently have.

It will be a success in the long run, it’s just going to take a bit of time.
 
Fu*g VAR it ruins the celebrations. Total joy when the ball went in then automatically the defenders hands go up and don’t know why because Pickford misjudged it and their defender put it in. Probably in the hope the VAR ref loves them and as the hands went everyone went silent then the F wait for the dreaded VAR. Then more celebrations. I tell you what VAR needs to F**k off!!!! It’s ruining the passion and the game I bloody hate it.
 
Just get rid of it for marginal offsides and leave it up to the ref and linesman. We are losing more than we are gaining.

Though the neutral PL fans in Asia and the USA probably love it

OK. So what you actually disagree with is how the offside rule is written, not how VAR is enforcing it. I'll ask again - we reword offside as you want, next weekend Mousset is put through for a last minute winner, but his whole torso is half an inch in front of van Dijk when the ball is played. That's offside, right? Or does he need to be an inch ahead? Six inches? Half a yard?
