Personally having listened to the interview I thought he was very honest. Said last week was his hardest in football since he was 16.
Was honest about the errors and where we've been gash this season.
Talked openly about targets
Agreed we've been poor and didn't try to spin it (something everyone wanted after last yr)
Knows we need pace up front
Has acknowledged his system isn't working to date
Has worked on shape of the team and drilled the defenders this week which is clearly what they need having only played 4 games together!

What do people want. We asked for an honest manager- we have one
We want a Blade in charge who is passionate about the club- we have one
It's clear he wants to succeed- That's what we want.

Give the man a chance 4 games. Let's get behind them this weekend and take some pressure off the team because we're the ones creating it by getting on their case.

Its not us getting behind him that's the problem ......

He needs the financial backing of the Board to get 5 or 6 deals done and give us a chance to realistically compete this season. They have around £2million plus whatever his budget was before we sold Adams and the wages outgoings have been slashed so that shouldn't be a problem.

BIG test for the Board now ......... and I'm guessing that they will fail on a biblical scale ....... as usual !!

Recalibrate your expectations guys ..... avoiding relegation could be the aim this season ..... :(

UTB & FTP

Pretty much Wilder's first line..."It isn't as straightforward as what people think"
We can see that Chris...I'm guessing you can now also...

He's going on and on about being backed by the owners 'within the new budget' but you have to ask who is McCabe is trying to get us in line with here? Yeovil?, Burton? operating on L2 budget's with crowds under 3k???

Why are Sheffield United, with crowds nearing 20k for our duration in L1, big sponsorship deals etc in this state?

I actually feel a bit sorry for Wilder. I think he thought, like many of us would, that he could change things. That being a Blade would be enough. I wonder now if he is slowly realising how fucked up things are, that they aren't going to change because they can't change. It's just one huge moneypit.

Agree with you as a think he has been suffering from shell shock . Good interview from him on RS . He appears to be up for the fight . Whatever spin you put on it , results to date show we are relegation fodder more than promotion. He does mention about moving forward with him or another . Oxford and the September fixtures are important to get points on the board . Bloke is hurting and with dignity if it goes Pete tong , he could walk which would be a absolute diaster.

McCabe needs to realise it ain't a double bluff from Wilder , and help him with financial clout to get the players in who WILL change us into a promtion winning team.

Wilder was stuttering in the other interviews getting ready for Call My Bluff . McCabe help the fella pleaded, he is hurting like us

How is the money not there to buy these players, even at 'ridiculous prices'?? If we don't strengthen then we'll struggle in the bottom half of the table.

If we do strengthen then we have a chance of promotion and recouping our cash in the champ.

The lack of ambition is very telling and we really will be stuck in L1 for a long time, or worse, end up in L2.

A real shame.

If I was Wilder and the board had fucked me about as much as these comments suggest. I would resign and advise the Blades what is really going on.

Sadly this time next week Wilder will be reading from the same old 'script' that Adkins/Clough were reading from.

But Jim did say it would be 3 more windows.

Think this is where the board quote 'Financial Fair Play' tying our hands... not that it seems to limit many other clubs. Everyone else seems to wangle their way round it.

McCabe strikes me as one of those who goes home after a sale of a player, with that big stupid smirk on his face, gets home to his missus and says: "You know me love, I'm a financial genius"

They do because they accept the fine and crack on in the division they get promoted to. But yeah, McCabe will give it the FFP bullshit.

No I don't.

Don't come knockin' when the chairman's a'rockin.

Be told. Now go and buy another ST for yer chabby.

So thats it folks.... Were fucked.

As for Long. He can go and be a N1 at a Sunday league team.
No team in L1 or maybe even 2 will sign him as a N1.

It was like when we gave McDonald to Wolves.
We signed McD on a one year contract on quite good money. When his contract expired we offered him one on reduced terms but still quite good for L1. He would only sign the contract if there was a release clause.
I assume we thought it was unlikely that any club in L1 could match what we were paying him so agreed. Then Wolves got relegated with parachute payments and were able and happy to pay him more.

Good until last paragraph . Do you think we would have won all games if played without a crowd , behind closed doors . No pressure from the crowd because we are the ones creating it by getting on there backs .

No ides but players do need to man up , grow some balls , and focus on what they get paid for .

No I don't but the fact that quite a few people just love to watch them fail and just ready to get on their cases just doesn't help. I accept everyone has a right to voice there annoyance but there are a large % who just can't wait to slag someone off or start grumbling. The fact is we're a average 3rd tier club. The tactics of the opposition particularly at BDTBL are so obvious these days and work so often. Stick 10 men behind the ball, not concede for the first 15 mins wait for our fans to get on our own players case and then watch us drop back 15 yrds.

The fact that collectively we allow this to happen time and time again should be a slap in the face for us to just relieve the pressure on our own team not make it worst by saying 'oh they don't have the balls to face up to the pressure' at some point the amount of players who 'haven't got the balls' should become apparent that actually some of the issue is with ourselves.

Does seem the goalposts have changed a lot in the last few weeks.....CW was quoted as saying he will hope to have 2 in then nothing happens....then 3 in...bids for players....now prices are ridiculous.

The bid for Webster was ridiculous. He has just signed a new contract - why not go for him in the summer?

I am a bit concerned at some of CW's judgements on players so far - not just the signings but the fact he opted to retain Brayford and Long and then 2 weeks into the season he is looking to shift both on.

I do fear it will be a case of same old, same old by this time next week. We had bids in but could not get them over the line. I know we brought a lot in over the summer but we had to just to replace those leaving and a lot more left than came in.

We are still 4 or 5 players short of even being a respectable league one side that can have a sniff of the playoffs.

I'm really concerned DB. I'm concerned about how Wilder chucked players over the edge, the way he burned all his bridges in what appears to be an effort to win favour with the fans. If he had replaced with anything better surely we wouldn't have started the season this badly?

You can argue over Hammond and the reasons but Wilders apparent no nonsense style has players like Sharp, Long and Brayford playing worse, not better.

Fleck appears to be the only player who is better than what we had. Our defence is featherweight, our midfield lacks creativity and our forwards are feeding on scraps. Coutts, a player lambasted as badly as any last season is now looking along with Scoogs to be vying for a place in midfield. Brayford was one of the few we all agreed on keeping but now he has fucked off to Burton, playing as badly as ever seen in a red and white shirt. Long, our young keeper is now being shoved out the door being told to go find another club and Adams sold for relative buttons to a club a division above, showing he is probably one of the few who could have made a positive contribution.

Perhaps we need to wait 10 or 20 games to see the fruits but I am less convinced with every move being made.

At this rate Clough is going to be remembered more like his dad in this generation of clusterfucks.

I'm genuinely shell shocked that even by our standards we are dropping down the shitter.

Do you think she says "No Kev your in the twats thread on S2. I put it there."

They don't get fined in L1 because FFP doesn't apply. It's SCMP which allows owner investment to be counted as income.

Depressing

How many offers did we get? All the clubs knew he was up for sale, it wasn't a secret.

Doesn't mean we need to sell for a price thats not reflective of his value and there are other transfers comparible to this that shows we should have asked for more.

Also if it was around £1.7million then once you minus Ilkestons share its pretty damn cheap.

This is not knee jerk. For a few seasons and even since Wilder took over in May we have been a soft touch right down the middle. Needed a keeper (took him 4 months but got one), an experienced commanding centre back and a dirty get in midfield who can lead. We have not addressed that and now with less than a week to go are scrambling round again. He clearly signed Wilson and Wright as back ups and the McFadzean deal did not happen quite a long time ago. So what have we been doing to address this since?

Call my cynical but I do not believe much that comes out of SUFC. In terms of the 3 or 4 quality additions, why can't we sign them? This notion that we are the only club that people shove up the prices for is a nonsense. Do managers like Adkins/Wilder really think teams are that bothered who comes in whether it is us or another side - I dont like or believe this 'Its Sheffield United...so they add another few 0's on!' idea. It's utter bull. Clubs drive a hard bargain with any prospective buying club, not just us. It is only us that seems incapable of getting decent players over the line.

This is the result of a lack of planning.
Getting rid of managers at the end of one campaign means we fall behind while plans are sorted and settled.
We are reaping the effects of needing important players one week to go. We should have had the mainstay of the side settled before the players came back in July. We didn't. Wilder wanted that, this club failed to achieve it.

Question is Why? Lots of theories, but in the main it's because we take far too long to get things through, and need too many people to be satisfied first. We have also been hampered by cuts in budget and IMHO a refusal from the owner to pay out until money comes in.
I don't believe it was part of the plan to sell Brayford...but think Adams was a goner for a long time. But that deal took longer than we wanted and as a result here we are.

Now....if only the owner had allowed the spend 2 months ago on the understanding monies would be recovered with the sales.

Also, the very poor network of scouts means we have a very small number of targets. We need a long line of players targeted so we can be in charge of directing the terms. At the moment we are always in a position of being held to ransom.

What a clusterfuck

Definite cooling towards the manager on here...

No fucker's callin' him Tufty.

Wait 'til it really gets nasty...

I think he knows he needs some results now.

He could have the club crest tattooed on his old chap but 1 draw in 5 games, along with selling out best players (not his fault admittedly) new signings under performing and some dirty performances and it's easy to see why any optimism has evaporated
