Updates from Wilder

Looking beyond the short term disappointment, there is a long term approach at work here. Wilder wants new recruits but he's not going to succumb to ridiculous demands and make knee-jerk reactions. Doing that is a big part of the reason we've wasted countless millions in the past and still find ourselves in this division. Yes, we do need 3 or 4 additions of quality and I expect those to be made in time, at the right price for us. I have the confidence in Wilder to continue to make the tough decisions and slowly but surely drag this club in the right direction. He needs the time and support to do that, and that's got to come from us. Patience is required.

This is not knee jerk. For a few seasons and even since Wilder took over in May we have been a soft touch right down the middle. Needed a keeper (took him 4 months but got one), an experienced commanding centre back and a dirty get in midfield who can lead. We have not addressed that and now with less than a week to go are scrambling round again. He clearly signed Wilson and Wright as back ups and the McFadzean deal did not happen quite a long time ago. So what have we been doing to address this since?

Call my cynical but I do not believe much that comes out of SUFC. In terms of the 3 or 4 quality additions, why can't we sign them? This notion that we are the only club that people shove up the prices for is a nonsense. Do managers like Adkins/Wilder really think teams are that bothered who comes in whether it is us or another side - I dont like or believe this 'Its Sheffield United...so they add another few 0's on!' idea. It's utter bull. Clubs drive a hard bargain with any prospective buying club, not just us. It is only us that seems incapable of getting decent players over the line.

No we wouldn't. We'd have no money and still have Che because no fucker in their right mind would pay £4m for him.

How much did L**ds pay for Roofe? £3 million? and he was in the league below and only scored 7 or so more goals than Che.

I think £4mil for Che is a much more realistic price with the way transfers prices are these days. Che then scores on his debut in the league above, I think when we are scrapping around in League 2 we may look back and think we undersold Che.

If they didn't want to pay the right asking price then yes Che would still be here and we may be doing a bit better in front of goal.

I understand the 'we wont be held to ransom by other clubs as we know a players worth' policy which CW trotted out. That is commendable. However the issue i have is that we have had so much needed change this pre season that i could not for the life of me understand why we fannied about with the McFaz transfer for the sake of £250k. The impression i got from the SUFC management was that McFaz was to be the lynchpin of the defence. It was such a critical piece of the puzzle that there are times to be stubborn and stick to your guns about not paying over your valuation of a player, and times to take one on the chin and if necessary pay a little bit over what you would ideally want to pay as you know it will probably make a massive difference to the team. Im not saying we should do this for every potential target or that i personally thought McFaz was the man we needed. What is important is that CW identified McFaz as being his number 1 centre back target and we didnt do business for the sake of 250k. A ridiculous decision. We are now still trying to find that all important defensive lynchpin 3 weeks into the season and with 6 days only left in the window. Why didnt we go in for Beevers who went to Bolton? If we had we would have had him or McFaz in pre season and might now have lost the games we did. Theyve left themselves in a position where we will probably get stung in the transfer market now as clubs know we are a little bit desperate to strenghten in the next 6 days. Short sightedness again Utd. Just how difficult is it to find a big lad at the back who will get his head on things and lead the defence? Other clubs in this division have them...he doesnt have to be a worldbeater just someone who will win headers and clear our lines. Morgan at Wigan would be ideal. Now stop penny pinching and get a bloody deal done Utd cos it will cost you more in the long run if we have a terrible season and continue to concede soft goals.

We did not do business as MKD were not prepared to sell to us and wilder was not prepared to pay an inflated price to try and persuade them to.
In all honesty I do not think we have missed out on very much as he is not the player that some people make him out to be

Listening to the Wilder interview , it will not be for the lack of trying in the recruitment of essential players . However it does appear we will fail and be snookered due to being SUFC and clubs inflating there fee assessment , knowing well that we are

Due to the transfer window click ticking desperate

Disjointed

Money from the Ched deal in the bank albeit in instalments

Club expectations .

Would it make sense to get the players in Before selling our own assetts . Bit of speculate to accumulate , but we always seem to do things arse way upwards .

Other clubs recruite , we just seem to get a mental blockage . Is it just another area of lessons learnt by Chris Wilder , but surely someone on the technical committee board was already aware of this .

Most on this forum could have given experienced transfer window advice - True.

That Sunji bloke whoever was right in a sense that we already knew - bit of a clock ticking fuck up.

Glad Wilder sounded up for the battle . It's winning the war that's the biggy .

Always UTB

We seem to be a lot like people who go to Antique Fairs, but expect to pay Car Boot prices for things, our dealings seem to be along the lines of "£250 for an Omega? I'll give you £50", whilst it constitutes an "offer" it is still a pisstake. Thats where we seem to be at, "£500'000 for Morsy? I'll give you £150'000"

The worry now is going into the next transfer window with what we've got

Personally having listened to the interview I thought he was very honest. Said last week was his hardest in football since he was 16.
Was honest about the errors and where we've been gash this season.
Talked openly about targets
Agreed we've been poor and didn't try to spin it (something everyone wanted after last yr)
Knows we need pace up front
Has acknowledged his system isn't working to date
Has worked on shape of the team and drilled the defenders this week which is clearly what they need having only played 4 games together!

What do people want. We asked for an honest manager- we have one
We want a Blade in charge who is passionate about the club- we have one
It's clear he wants to succeed- That's what we want.

Give the man a chance 4 games. Let's get behind them this weekend and take some pressure off the team because we're the ones creating it by getting on their case.

Good until last paragraph . Do you think we would have won all games if played without a crowd , behind closed doors . No pressure from the crowd because we are the ones creating it by getting on there backs .

No ides but players do need to man up , grow some balls , and focus on what they get paid for .

shall we all just pledge an extra £50? if 5000 blades pledge an extra £50 that's an extra £250k. I'm past all the hatred and blaming right now, just want us to sign someone decent.

George has finally seen sense.

Then when he's gone and it's only young Ramsdale competing, we're in the same scenario.
No pressure on the GK Moore as he's basically first choice, regardless.

Good Luck to him, was never a great fan of his, but I do hope he proves me wrong.

Great shout.
What about this player's wages?

Kev, stop with the masquerading, we all know it's you...

You really wouldn't be surprised if they are unaware there is no loan window.

In my head, it's all being run a bit like the England Committee in Mike Bassett England manager. "Hi Chris, yeah I know you want to sign Sam Morsy, just write it down and shove it under Kevin's door"

How many offers did we get? All the clubs knew he was up for sale, it wasn't a secret.

I have an image in my head of the board being smug saying "we won't pay these stupid prices again. They think we are daft " totally unaware that the "stupid prices" are much to do with the fact we are well into the season and in the last week of the transfer window.

It's notoriously more difficult to sign people at the end of the window as clubs don't have much time to find a replacement. Maybe if we had got ours business done earlier then things might not have been so critical. Maybe if we hadn't sold 2 first teamers to "free up wages" we might need to sign less players. Now though we are either going to sign no one of any quality or spend over the odds for players. Again .

And it's all our own fault. All down to incredibly naive planning

Thought that , but thankfully Big Sam has that gig . Wider and McCabe are looking at the England blue print . All good fun ( or fucked )

No harm in asking but once they've told you they know that £250 is a fair price for a 1971 Geneve, take the back off to show you the movement is genuine and say 'if I don't get £250 it's going on eBay' then you're a prick if you offer them £100.

I actually feel a bit sorry for Wilder. I think he thought, like many of us would, that he could change things. That being a Blade would be enough. I wonder now if he is slowly realising how fucked up things are, that they aren't going to change because they can't change. It's just one huge moneypit.

We did. I'm fairly sure we could get any of our targets if we were prepared to pay over £1m for them but why would our rivals sell us players for the going rate? You'd have to be fucking stupid to do that. It would be like us selling Brayford to Bolton for £350k.
Obviously if we want a player who's decent and under a fairly long contract at their current club they'd only part with him if you offer more than he's worth.
I don't want to sell my car so if I was offered what it was worth, I'd just say no. Offer me double and you can have it.

It was like when we gave McDonald to Wolves.

Can you imagine if they could have taken the back off Hammond :)

Hopefully other clubs have mellowed by then, and don't want to rip us off because we are Sheffield Utd.

When I was but a wee child, runnin' thru' the streets wi' mi' arse showin.
I used to think that 'cos we'd beat the Cardiff City 6-1 away, we'd beat them 12-2 at BDTBL.

I used to believe in mermaids too.

:)
