Updates from Slav

I'm really struggling understanding most of what Slav says... not even joking :(
To the point I don't really listen to him anymore. I get the odd few words and then it's mumble.

It's all cliqué anyway. "We need to keep moving forwards" Yeah I'm sure EVERY club says that. It's a no brainer, so why do managers always repeat them phrases.

Listening to Slavs interviews is hard work, his English isn't the best, he also gives the impression that he has difficulty in understanding the questions coming his way. He seems to give the same answers over and over, not convinced he knows what is being asked half the time.

This is all getting parochial.

My thinking is that Slav's first language after Serbian is Spanish, that infact, English is perhaps his third language. It maybe the case that when he is alone with his back-up team, they are all speaking Spanish.

Didn't he play for Deportivo when they won La Liga (against Real and Barça)? If I am correct he then went to Chelsea. Does his family not live in Madrid?

Listening to Slav speaking to the media, my impression is that he is thinking in English - but - speaks English through Spanish. As such, he finds himself confusing "Sandwich Ham" with "Ham Sandwich" (for those of you who have ventured as far as Benidorm or even Salou) and is then trying to correct himself.

Basically to speak a second/third language you must be able to think in that language. It's all a little like speaking Sheffieldish - good fun when you can!

As someone who is able to converse in Spanish with little problem, but finds it difficult when the person I am speaking to is wearing a mask, I would actually suggest to everyone - if you take the time to listen and give Slav the chance - you will find him to be more eloquent and informative than Wilder ever was.

We get a manager with a decent track record, and some of our fans are moaning because he doesn't speak the Queen's English with an upper class accent...........

So he can only speak the three languages. Disgraceful.

Not really though. People are moaning because we’re shit. All the rest of the complaints are just manifestations of the general dissatisfaction with the start we’ve made. It’s like the “arms folded” stuff about other managers. If you win games, you’re cool and calculating, calm and collected; lose games and you lack passion.

I think our spectacular collapse reminds me of Leicester winning the league - we can all point to reasons why it happened but no one will ever be able to fully explain it, especially us as we’re watching from the “outside”, we only ever see what happens on the pitch, not the rest of the stuff that can affect and even dictate how we perform. I bet Leeds fans couldn’t give a shit about Bielsa’s press conferences last season but if the go on a losing streak you’re guaranteed some of them will start going on about how he’s been here for ages and still can’t speak the language. We lash out when we’re pissed off and sometimes it can be a bit mindless.

This is bang on, and it doesn't help when Giddings is firing colloquial proverbs at him over a shit Zoom connection.

He's closely focussing on understanding the interviewer, whoever it is, but some have misunderstood this as "he doesn't care" or "he looks like he hates talking about us already".

He's a good bloke, not trying to con anyone or play mind games. He's honest and clear, but humble with it. We knew he needed time to take hold of the squad and get us firing, most of us knew that would require a bit of an ongoing overhaul. So all this will take time.

It seems like lots of Blades want a guaranteed outcome using a guaranteed method. This is the wrong game for those folk, we're just along for the ride.

It's not been a good start and WBA was a very poor performance. SJ knows this. And what? To repeat an overused cliche...we go again.

I was going to mention this but it was beyond what I wanted to say. Actually I was quite surprised at how Slav was reacting to the first question with his widened eyes and then for the subsequent questions having to visibly listen with his ears.

It must have been very difficult for him given the urgency of the current situation.

Basically Giddings should take the time to plug an Ethernet cable into his fancy laptop before any "professional" Zoom meeting!

Ask the Leeds fans about bielsa it took him time to get it right and he still can't speak in English with confidence , we are in for a good ride I have to admit I was one of the "we will go straight back up " brigade , give slav time he will get it done , a lot of us including me thought this squad would be good enough but we carry on and try and enjoy it when we can whilst he works his way through

May have been language barrier but did Slav suggest Ben Davies also had covid issues? Seems Berge is touch and go regarding playing. Mcgoldrick still not recovered and Olsen may not have been part of the squad yet to play on Saturday. Be interesting to see how we line up.

Didn't seem super satisfied with transfer window action overall.
