Times like this where I look back on the season and just think to myself "what if"

- Didsy had slotted that penalty against pigs in the home match
- We had just held on for 1 more minute against Villa
- We didn't have Johnson on the pitch against Rotherham that caused him to lose the fucking ball in final minutes the stupid nonce
- Again, we didn't have Johnson on the pitch against Bristol City

All clubs can come up with what ifs

I really can’t see a team as good as Preston having 3 consecutive defeats.
So I expect PNE to bounce back but think it’ll be a 1-1 draw when they play Leeds tonight.

So on Wednesday we’ll have the chance to open up a 3 point gap by beating Birmingham
But I reckon we’ll also draw 1-1 with Birmingham, so everything remains the same.

This has been said before. It doesn’t work like that
You could equally argue that conceding 3 late goals against Villa was a massive test of character and taught us a few home truths
actually making us stronger and better.

Also it’s ridiculous to blame Johnson for the Rotherham equaliser, Norwood and Basham messed up too
But when something bad like that happens to the team it’s a big test of character resulting in lower confidence or stronger resolve.
It seems that our players have real teamwork and character and have learnt from their mistakes making us a BETTER team.

Never mind 'at this stage of the season', Bolton and Millwall beat us at home last season.

You can lose these games at any point, against woeful teams, regardless of form, injuries or pressure.

Have a good look at your avatar. Have you ever celebrated success a little prematurely? Live and learn.

Where have I celebrateted too early , 4 points and a better goal difference would be a big gap to overturn with only 5 matches left.
We would be big big favorites tho that hasn’t stopped us messing things up before

I think Preston can beat Leeds . They are a good side. And will be desperate to win tonight for there playoff hopes.

Could just as easily say:

- what if Hutchison hadn't hit his shot straight at Henderson and we'd lost 1-0?
- what if Stearman's goal against Boro had been disallowed for a foul and we'd drawn 0-0?
- what if Norwich had scored that 3-on-1 chance they had against us in the third game and condemned us to a third consecutive defeat to start the season?
- what if we'd not got a late winner against Millwall away?
- what if Pontus hadn't put his chance wide in the last few minutes?
- what if Blackburn hadn't gone down to 10 men in the home game with us?

There's tons of tiny "turning points" every couple of games.

I'd rather not magic ,but you've gone and done it now, I'm starting to get nervous already

You can just imagine it can't you?

I've got that day's Soccer Saturday in my head already..................

Jeff Stelling "Sheffield United 1-0 up thanks to a David Mcgoldrick goal in the first minute of injury time. Up to that point, it was Leeds that were up, but a goal there as we speak. Which way has it gone Alan Macinally.........................."

Jeff Stelling and the boys don't do Chumpionship football, especially on a Sunday ;)

Totally agree, also these events tend to have a butterfly effect.
Sometimes conceding or scoring a goal is all about the timing and the strength of character of that team.

For example, tomorrow night could be a tight cagey game, 0-0 most of the match, then Birmingham score a late winner.
Or we could be really unlucky and Birmingham score from their first 2 attacks, so they are leading 2-0 after 15 minutes.
This terrible start might relax our players, so we then play smooth attacking football, Birmingham nervously sit back
And we go on to win the match 3-2.

So negative turning points (like the sending offs home to Derby and Blackburn) can end up being positives
And positive turning points (like the early goal against Bristol City) can end up being negatives because the lead made us sit back and seemed to relax Bristol City who became more positive chasing the equaliser.

Ah yes, they wheel out the B-team don't they. So there's going to be a sting in the tail, and that bird that looks like Lee Hendrie is going to be doing our game.

Fucks sake................

Millwall were a good team last season and almost got in the play offs.

They didn't beat us at Bramall Lane though.

Nah, it'll be Paul Jewell or Matt Murray :(

No games are guarantees at any stage of the season.

Anybody expecting us to hammer Millwall and Ipswich is a fool.

True, it’s amazing how PRESSURE can affect performances.
Once the finish line comes into sight, some of our players might freeze/ worry with the expectation.
Fortunately for us, unlike Leeds and Norwich virtually all our players have very recent experience of winning promotion battles.
So in theory, our players are less likely to feel the pressure compared to the Leeds players.

Lets see what the footballing gods have to say. Maybe they will look down and say. " lets give dem Blades something to smile about and save them play off disapointment again".

The football gods are more likely to give us a 6 point lead with two games left then make us lose the last two games whilst Leeds win each one 6-0
The final deciding goal scored in the 97th minute with the worst penalty decision in history

So don't even try to tame the footballing gods, they are twats.
There I've said it, now bring it on you twats

Well, yes. But to say playing Millwall now is the same as playing them, say, mid-way through November with all other things staying equal is also probably not quite right.

Me too, they're the better team. If they don't it's definitely a case of their heads have gone.

I’ve had a word with my old friend League Table.

We’re better than every single team that has beaten us this season. All of them. The only team better than us has failed to beat us.

Preston could perfectly well beat Dirty Corrupt Leeds without any question that ‘heads have gone’. It’s on the day. That’s football.

Absolutely. I agree entirely, but does the same not apply to Dirty Corrupt Leeds’ remaining games?
