Aye lad! But you should know some jest without resorting to the wanking emoji! And some have problems with their vowels.

Don’t take it to heart mate. It is, but a surreptitious, smidgeon of banter. I admire your positivity, premature as pre-cum though it may be!

(Where’s that wanking emoji?)

I haven’t used a wanking emoji mate and if I could find it I’d use it a lot more often

Thought Leeds United were the best supported club in the world. Didn't take as many as us on Saturday.

If anyone’s the knobhead it’s you my friend if you can get so worked up over someone’s post on here Christ , you must live a very sad boring life.

If you don’t agree with what someone says either don’t comment or have a conversation you utter moron

Ta x :) Got a great life compared to most thanks. Just get irrationally angry over stupidity.

My comment is as before. I don't agree with your arrogant and unnecessary post. You are a knob-head for making it, in my opinion. It offends against the way Blades are which is non arrogant, understated, pessimistic and above all realistic. I am entitled to comment. I have done. Your stupid post has so far proved to be wrong and tomorrow may even show you up to be a complete numpty. There is no need for a conversation. Your position is clear. I have pointed out you were talking unsupportable crap because guess what, Leeds won.

Hmmmm. Check the league table prior to kick off on Sat 5th May and get back to me if my post 're not knowing whether we would go up or not without winning at Leicester is correct or not.

You are correct.

Doesn't change the fact it wasn't a must win match.

Myself and 9.999 other Blades went to Leicester 2 points clear of the barcodes.
It was a must win match to secure promotion.
The fact that the barcodes lost is irrelevant.

Your reply should have ended at ..you are correct...

There's no shame in being wrong once in a while.

That's just a fact.

The great thing about facts is that they're still true whether you believe them or not.

I seem to have made a career of it! :D

Fuck me. Your last paragraph is the invention of a psychologically disturbed individual.

You're wrong. I'm right. Suck it up.
Next time you might be right. I'll be fine and magnanimous about it.
You should try it.

Did Sheffield United have to win on 5th May 1990 to get promoted?

The answer to that question is unequivocally no.

Ergo, it wasn't a must win match.

Ps. Don't take it too seriously FB Some of us get a bit fractious when optimism appears and the shop runs out of Werthers.

If we are 2 points ahead of Leeds as we travel to Stoke.
Is that a must win game to guarantee promotion.
Yes or no.

Yes or no.

Yes.

But that doesn't make it a must win game.

What are you not getting?

On the last day of the 2006-07 Premier League season we knew a win would guarantee staying up but that didn't make it a must win match.

We could have lost and still stayed up.

I think with respect you're talking utter bollocks. Your general style is argumentative and confrontational.
I'm leaving it there. All the best.

Okay. Have a nice evening.

Sorry the facts don't fit your opinion.

The term, 'must win' is pretty self explanatory but you don't seem to be able to grasp it.

At kick off time, it most certainly was a must win game as we obviously didn't know what Newcastle would do. A win for them that day, and a draw for us, theyd have finished second on GD.

Its hardly rocket science.

That's not my opinion, that's a fact.

I don't know even know why it needs explaining.

It was a must win match for Newcastle because they had to win to have any chance of getting promoted.

If they'd lost or drawn it would have been impossible for them to finish above us regardless of our result.

As I remember we needed 3 points to guarantee promotion..

Because of other results it wasn’t a must win game in the end, but you can’t afford to leave it to fate, you must take it into your own hands as we did..

Ironically, that’s just where we are, if we match Leeds United's results from now to the end of the season as a minimum, we will be promoted by 1 point.. take it into our own hands and we’ll be ok, not worrying about other teams doing us favours..

Btw, this time tomorrow we could be where we were last Saturday evening with one less game to play...

Let’s keep in touch and see what we can do.. many twists to come...

Going down to the wire ..

You're bonkers mate.
That's a fact.

So you're saying it was a must win match.

But hold on, if we'd have lost we still would have been promoted.

So Sheffield United would have lost a must win match but still been promoted.

If you can't see how fucking nonsensical that is then there's no hope for you.

I'm done.

Goodnight.

Things that never happened

05/04/1990 2.50pm

DB - okay, out you go, get warmed up let's show them who we are

DF - yes, must win game lads,,,,,,

DB - hold on boys, no Derek, it's not. Newcastle could lose, we'll still be up.

Player 1 - but we win, we're up. Guaranteed.

Player 2 - we can't rely on other teams boss, its in our hands.

DB - you lot know nothing.

Why the ? Thought it was obvious I was agreeing with you and referring to the op. Original post.
Sorry pal, long day yesterday, I've just read it back.
Was so tired, I read it and it just didn't go in, my apologies. I did go straight to bed, shame i havent awoken refreshed, as I've I'm sure I will have another day the same, and then there's the anticipation of tonight, and the nerves will be well n truly in action by kick off!
Must win tonight!
COYRAWW!

it turned out not to be because of subsequent events that afternoon. At 3pm the facts were that a win guaranteed us second place and a defeat or draw, together with a Newcastle win, put us in the play offs.

I think you might be wasting your time trying to explain it, he isn't taking it onboard.

It proved afterwards not to be 'must win', ergo retrospectively it couldn't have been a 'must win' before. Logic says so because er, he keeps repeating it. There's a knowing nod to Pignomics in there.

I think Bill Johnson was remarkably restrained trying to make the point but had to give up to keep his sanity.

What is it about arguing with an idiot....?
