The 23s have a game today at Stocksbridge. Might look out the bus pass and encourage the lads after their efforts against Derby although who plays is always interesting.

Another fine performance by our youngsters to run out 1 - 0 winners against an experienced team that had Jonathon Walters playing at number 9 Very different type of match from the Derby game but once we got into our stride we were well worth our victory. Burnley had done their homework and were restricting us from playing out from the back but it showed we were capable of grinding out a victory. We had Stevie Mallon on from the start at left Wing back We moved to a flat back 4 when we were protecting our lead and this pushed Mallon forward where he looked more at home.
Our goal was a bit of a scramble when first the ref. diverted the ball and then the keeper didn't deal with the cross and Ti Smith, I think, was able to slot it home. We did come under pleasure but going to a flat back 4 gave us the edge and in fact Ti Smith could have had another 3 but for fine saves by the keeper
Great performance again and these lads are doing us proud. So its on to another game on Monday at Shirecliffe before we play Newcastle at Stocksbridge on Friday.
One little bit of praise for Burnley's Jonathon Walters who but in a real shift for his team, just shows that senior players can view 23 games positively.
Our young defence is looking good, Doherty, Cantrill and Semple seem to develop game after game.
Lastly hope we have Eastwood available for the Newcastle game now that Blackman has gone AWOL for a few games.

Want to see Smith break through next season. Family of family n all that
Big fan of Smith and no reason for him not to continue to push on. just lost his goal scoring touch due to great stops but he always gets into position to score and his work rate is high. I think he needs to set up a new partnership now that Hallam is off shore, Could be with Parkhouse but he is very different to Hallam so it needs work. Watch this space

Good to hear. I played 7 a side with him when he was about 16 years old. The lad was running rings around grown men. The lad was scoring for fun.

Semple, Tyler Smith and Gilmour were outstanding in this fixture.

Semple marked Jon Walters, over 500 games, 280 in the premier league and still a real handful, and he came out on top. An experience you can’t buy !!!

That said, u23s is not enough for these three. They need mans first team football.

These three need to be playing on loan next season whether it National League, L2 or L1.
