This means more league places qualify for Europe, giving the blades an even better chance of European footbal next season.

"Insiders at European football's governing body Uefa have confirmed that places reserved in next season's Europa League for domestic cup winners would revert to league positions if those tournaments were not completed. "

Maybe it's me but I'd rather the best United team in my life time try and win the FA Cup..the only big trophy we could realistically win.

Mind you we'd not be able to be there for any final!

Agree....I’d rather play the FA cup....for the 1st time we have a realistic chance....no matter who we draw In the semis and final.
Also playing a high profile match at Wembley would give us some great memories and we would also gain loads of money and positive publicity.

Someone joked about Wilder putting 2 fingers up at the football Gods.....and how the Gods would have something in store for us.
The last time we had such a great side threating to win stiff a world war stated to stop our momentum in its tracks.
This isn’t a world war...but the way it’s effecting society its having the same effect.

Ideally we’d play the cup, but realistically, its getting harder to see how we cram in the rest of the league games, so can see the cup being abandoned.

If thats the case, then surely a solution would be to run next seasons tournament as normal- but the 8 remaining teams from this season don't enter at first.

Then when it gets down to the last 8, simply add us, Arsenal and the other 6 into the draw to form another round of 16 and go from there? Solves a problem this year and rewards the performances of those who stayed in.

Start off next season, when it begins with the cup quarter finals, spread the remaining fixtures out and finish up with next years FA Cup.

ill take our chances in the last 8 and it being completed

they could play it a week before next season quarters Saturday/ Sunday for tv semis weds/ thurs or 2 kick off times on weds and final Sunday

if its possible in a world cup its possible in the fa cup

Good news for the Blades if qualifying for Europe is more important than winning something. 🙂

Personally, I’m ambivalent to this one. We have two wrongs to right as far as Wednesday are concerned. Playing in Europe and winning something. I want us to sort both things under Wilder and finally extinguish every argument they could ever put up.

Rubbish thread title. Nowhere in the article does it say UEFA are "expecting" domestic cups to be abandoned. Quite the opposite, they are encouraging them to be finished.

If the league gets finished, I don’t see why the cup wouldn’t. People are talking about fixture congestion but only two teams will have to actually play three games. It’s really not that much when, if it’s not us for example, that’d only be two more games than us given we have one in hand.

This season simply has to be completed so to the FA cup, anything else is just unfair on every club. One competition has been completed (League cup) if need be scrap that for next season and finish the FA cup in mid week slots. Start next season later than usual if need be or risk court cases from every club in with a chance of promotion or even saving themselves from relegation. The games have to be played even if it is behind closed doors.

That's what good journalism is all about. You put a bombastic claim in the headline then write an article slowly walking it back. That or you find five random tweets and title it "What X think about Y".

It doesn’t make any difference to anyone at this stage other than those still in the cup. There’s no guarantees there will be any European football up for grabs at the end of the season if/when it finishes.

League has to be priority to be fair to everyone and if the Cup has to go to allow it, then so be it.

Like Sean Thornton 's idea above though. Surely that could easily be achieved.
