Afternoon Phil. What are your thoughts on the prospects of Angelo Capello ? To be honest I'd not heard of him until a mate of mine mentioned his niece was his significant other and he had me completely stumped when he asked what I thought of him.

Considering the number of youngsters on loan this year, lads are doing well.

Proper fan you Phil or do you just not get on with the wife.
Boxer Blade as you will see sheffieldrose has provided an answer for her frankly unacceptable absence today. I don't mind a bit of joshing. And I know you meant your comment in good spirit. No worries from me.
It does give me the chance to say the Carrier Bag Firm are proud Feminists. This Girl Can.

DaveBassettsgoneonholiday Hi mate. You're going to get the same both barrels that everyone gets. Don't take it personally. Angelo Capello has NO prospects at SUFC. No Academy player has any chance of making the SUFC First Team in my lifetime. That is because we have become a never contented with our lot club. We are always striving to go upwards to the next level. Or desperately trying to avoid going down a level. To do that we constantly sign player after player after player. Each one we sign goes ahead of an Academy player "in the queue". I was there on 7 March 2015. Dominic Calvert-Lewin had been sub & around the first team. We signed Steven Davis, Dom dropped all the way down to the U18s that day & scored two in S6 in the first 15 minutes. Subsequently, I saw Dom score the winner for England in an U20 World Cup Final. Look don't misunderstand me. The pathway for young players is - you have to be good enough - no argument from me. No special treatment. But, while ever we're having a crazy turnover of players, Slater, Norrington-Davies, Parkhouse, they'll all get within sight of the first team. Then, we'll buy someone to push them down the queue. It never gets to "how good are they". It's always "how many in the queue in front"

And relax....
Angelo will get a few shots at U23 level this season. Maybe more on the bench than as a starter. He needs to crack on with a full season at U18 level & learn the hard bits. I like the look of him. I saw him Summer 2018 in our U15 side in the SuperCup NI in Ulster.

I've re read my post from that game & I'll stand by it

Generally, I enjoy watching him. He's clearly skillful & he makes you notice him. He's worth keeping an eye on as his development progresses

How did they line up, Phil in terms of formation?
Hi Champagneblade
You can have a blast from the gun as well...
It doesn't matter. One of the beauties of U23 football is you can line up how you like. Fluid, fluent, changeable, with a chance of where the fuck has he gone now. Love it. Embrace it.
Binnion is on record as saying he likes the U23s to set up like the first team. But, the U18s set up what's best for them. Nominally, the U23s usually set up as three at the back (Gordon, Cantrill, Ferguson today). Two wingbacks (Sheppeard & Boyes today). Someone to take the ball off the three (Doherty today). Two buzzing midfielders (York & Oure today). Two up top (Hallam & Triallist today). I really like Reece York in that front of the three role, but Doherty usually gets it.
Utd were MUCH better in the 2nd half when Stephen Mallon came on to do the whatever you want creative role. Fluid, fluent, bang on. Jordan Hallam came to that party as well.
Hope that helps

I should pay more attention to the fixture list – had no idea that Watford played their matches at WinFin, would have headed the short distance across. I went before a few years ago for Non-League Day – as I recall their very old grandstand is fairly unique in basically being two-sided, with the opposite side watching the rugby pitch.

Today was the first time Watford have played there. It's a new partnership. Indeed the newly refurbished ground is being officially opened tomorrow, Saturday 18 August - by Geoff Shreeves.
Incidentally, superb playing surface

Many thanks for your take on your he young ‘uns vMuch appreciated

Spot on again with your views pal.

The pathway for academy players is always there but in reality its not. Even Brookes at 12 million quid was never a regular in the starting 11 when fit.

You will see small glimpses of a home grown product and then they will move on.

That’s how it is at the present time.
