U23s at Doncaster

And I am a BIG Jordan Hallam fan. He's not all flair like Diego, Brooks & even Stephen Mallon. He's a very rounded player. Great on dead balls. Whips 'em in from wide. Simple approach to direct free kicks. Pick a spot. Hit a spot. Beat the wall. Don't start it way wide & hope for draw & fade. Aim at the goal. The U23s are very flexible in positions. Jordan often plays the 10. He's a multi trick pony. He'll play League Football imho. Maybe not at The Lane though.
As I said Phil he's a .clever player and given time he maybe bridge the gap. He's a bit lightweight and needs to bulk up a bit which he will.
Don't beleave we block progress by bringing journey men in as to throw these young players ( and they're very young ) into the first team would be a disaster and Wilder realises that..
Having come from 1st division we lacked
championship experience so mixing very young players with what we had could have been overwhelming for the team.
Outstanding young talent would probably shine in the team right now as Brooksy did,but no one with that kind of talent comes through everyday so we have to be patient ,some real quality could be coming through but can't be rushed and beleave Wilder would love to turn a team out with mainly home grown talent after all he's a life long blade and playing for your club is a dream most players never see ,I trust Wilder knows when to blood a young player.

Not sure about that - you're saying Semple has gone to Queen of the South because Wilder is worried what the Big Prinz will do. Seems all a bit BBC Spy Thriller.

I think Callum has probably just had a chat with Binnion & Dungworth. Maybe....
No, I’m saying he’s gone to QotS because he won’t get a look in for us at the moment, because developing players for the future isn’t on Wilder’s current agenda. That agenda may change depending on who takes ownership of the club. Managers only want to develop players when their future is fairly secure and they think they are likely to be around to benefit from it.

Not sure about that one either. I'm not one for reading too much into, & twisting other poster's, exact words. I believe that developing players for the future is on Wilder's agenda. I don't know him. Never had the conversation with him. (I have listened to Binnion"s Q&As at Shirecliffe, however). I'll take your word, but I believe Wilder is interested in player development.

Agree. If I've suggested an Academy player's route to the First Team is blocked by journeymen. Or that they should be pitched in the First Team when not ready. I didn't mean to. I just mean .... there's more in the queue ahead of them, the distance to the first team looks huge, their development is blocked, because they're down the list. It's their development I feel is blocked a bit. I don't think we're miles apart....

Yes I think we are close in our thoughts on this matter.
I do think the best way forward for most young players is to loan them out to teams in a lower division than us ,premiership clubs do this. They gain experience so when recalled the gap between our first team squad and the. Young player is a lot closer and the player has experienced man's football ( as it's called ) which means the shock of playing at a higher level is not so traumatic, the .player obviously has to have done well on loan, then introduced to first team level, which I assume means training with them and looking the part.

If you believe CW is interested in player development why are you talking about ‘Academy Blockers’? I haven’t spoken to Wilder about it either, I’ve just offered my opinion on the current situation and why I don’t think we’ll be seeing academy players in the first team this season.

Phil makes a valid point.

For all that Hallam may bring to the table, it wasn’t enough for Wilder to not sign Washington and promote him up the order.

Maybe that’s harsh on Chris. He can’t get every signing right but some of his signings have been punts. Why not punt on one of our own?

!

got Brooks timing perfect

you think our lads have it hard , chelsea under 23s have 25 players out on loan to contend with

The valid point I’d also add to is that I’d rather go with some home grown youth and save transfers and agent fees. What has Thomas contributed that Hallam couldn’t, in thegrand scheme of things? What has Heneghan done over what Semple could do?

Massive hindsight statement coming up but Billy’s career had had a similar trajectory to United’s. We could have saved all those striker signings by just persevering with Sharp all that time!
Hallam is not ready to stake a claim for a first team shirt. He is a prospect but to push him through instead of bringing in an experienced player would be fool hardy And Wilder no fool
