But, what can I say, I don't spend my money on bits of White Polyester made by slaves for a game stealing FIFA sponsor. I spend it on going to games & beer.

Jesus fucking christ , just read it, no wonder you don't watch this level often. Reading that reminded me of watching a sunday league game where one of the supporters stood there for the duration berating every decision the ref made and it always started with a loud profanity.

Well. The Academy U23 are third in their table. Four points off top. And, they still have a chance of progressing in the Premier League Cup. I'm not sure I'd call that a bad season. The U19 Futures are played 8, won 5, drawn 1. It's far from all doom & gloom at age group levels.

I have a deviant view of the U21 Futures. But, it's one of the reasons I love this club. I think that U21 Futures level is as much about EXIT from the Academy as ENTRY to. What I mean is it is Utd looking after players who won't make it. They get a chance to continue playing. Other teams, non-league can scout them. United are helping them find a way to stay in the game. And, they are staying in Education, learning things, getting skills, and qualifications. To help them make a way outside the game. This Club will not discard you. This Club will not slam the door. This Club treats people right. But, that's just me.....
It has recently been brought to my attention that Keenan Ferguson & Connor Cutts have ALREADY made the step from this U21 Futures group to Two Year Pro Contracts.

It was alright. I just find the Pumpclips "use our app" " offers on Monday" "CAMRA Discount" infuriating. Two of the pumps had the Ember Ale badged Black Sheep. But, it was OK. And, what else we got. Rising Sun is too far up that hill. I suppose The York & Itchy Pig are just about doable. The Sportsman is/was OK - you know what you're up against...

The Florentine could be an option, they have a few beers on now; generally Abbeydale and Thornbridge. Just walk up Tapton Park Road/Ivy Park Road to Sandygate. A bit easier than the Rising Sun or Broomhill.

There's a little gennel off Watt Lane so you could get there from the Ranmoor in just over 10 minutes. They have Bradfield Blonde & Farmers, Deception, Timmy Taylor's Landlord and Boltmaker plus another guest. It is probably the most expensive pub outside of town, but the beers are really well kept.

Agree completely about the stupid pump clips in the Sportsman, The initial excitement of seeing eight hand pulls somewhat lessens when they actually only have Moonshine, Ember Pale and the occasional guest.

Just noticed the U18s are playing Wendy at 11am. Anyone going?

Just to put a positive on this. The SUFC futures are mainly 16/17 year olds playing in an U21 league. It is a college course with a qualification at the end of it. My lad was in it, he finished the course last year and the team finished a very commendable second place in the league. The majority of these youngsters will go on to play semi pro with full time jobs. Some go onto Uni, which is the path my lad has taken, while still playing. A minority of them have signed professional contracts.

One of my personal hates is seeing a fan of a club walking round town in a club shirt, while his team have a game.

Notice this a lot with Wed, when I`m down the Moor before a Lane game, and even in my once a year forced walk round Meadowhall with Mrs Treeton, while there was a game going on at Hillsborough.

I agree with you so much about how we look after all our Academy lads and that's why United are the best bet to nurture young talent. Are you off to windy Stocksbridge today? Could be an interesting game.

To be honest, I don't think you can base the quality of your U23 based on a ranking from a league. I'm a diehard fan of the Cruijff philosophy and I think there can be made huge gainings in the youth academies. In my opinion, the individual progression of a player should be the main point of the youth academy, not the results of the youth teams.

For example, at Ajax we like to let our CV's play a couple of games on the midfield, to increase their operation speed and technique. This might lead to a loss in the game since they probably make a lot of mistakes in the beginning, but you do increase the level of the individual.

Have not seen a game from the Sheffield academy but will definitely watch some games next year when i'm there. Is everything open for public?

Yep. I'm going to try & do the Double Header today. Academy U23 at Stocksbridge v Crewe Alex & Futures U19 away at Dunkirk FC in their League Cup.

The Academy U23 team play their home games at either Bramall Lane or Stocksbridge Park Steels. Games are usually mid week. Afternoon (1pm or 2pm usually) at Stocksbridge. Free entry to all at Stocksbridge. A mixture of afternoon (1pm or 2pm) & evening (7pm) at Bramall Lane. Free to Season Ticket holders, £3 or thereabouts to others. (Or Blag.....)

The Academy U18 play all their home games at the SUFC Academy at Shirecliffe. Usually Saturday mornings 11am. Entry is free. There is occasionally some Bollocks about who is allowed where at what time. But, it's always possible to be on the touchline as it kicks off.

The U19 & U21 Futures play all their home games mid week under lights 7:45pm at Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Any one any good is with someone else and all the fee does is cover the cost of getting them up to the point we can sell.

Spend the money on a No 9 because in the end as we have seen recently the team with some quality wins the tight matches.

You're wrong. The academy is a profitable operation. While it would be nice to produce a "450 appearance first teamer", it's not the academy's purpose: it's there to make money, which it does.

GRUMPY BLADE I hear you Brother. But, to me a football club is not just the First Team and a £ sign. It's a place where kids can go & kick a ball about. Have a purpose. Learn something about the game. Learn something about life. Where coaches can coach. Where physios can physio. Where analysts can analyse. A club, not just 11 tarts chasing a bag of wind on a Saturday. Without an Academy & Age Group teams we're not a football club. We're not Sheffield United. We're just a fucking no. 9. I'm out....
