My first born Jessica saw the world at the Royal Free in Hampstead. Two days later, in time honoured Sheffield fashion, me and my dad when down to Selhurst Park to see United's last game of their top tier season at Wimbledon. We lost 3-0, Mervyn Day had a nightmare in his one and only game (but saved a late pen) but everyone had a good time as we finished a healthy ninth that season and there was a relatively good natured pitch invasion at the end (though I believe a croos bar was broken!)

It's all been pretty much downhill since then......

My mate got arrested on the pitch there, he got grabbed by the dibble and was arrested for assault. The copper said he turned and hit him. Which he didn't do.
My mate appealed, had to all the way back to Surrey and got an extra fine for appealing. Ha Ha

It was 20 years last week that the dirties won at the lane to win the league, 10 bob head Gayle's own goal(and then smiled as the ball went back to be kicked off) and I think Mel Rees's last game as well- he hurt his leg in that game which is why we got Day. RIP Mel.

Oh and happy birthday to your daughter Darren

Bloody hell, was that really 20 years ago. I remember that game, so must of been at home on leave back then. Doesn't seem like 20 years ago!!

1. She is 20, she does not call me "daddy" and never has done (me and her mum being trendy lefty parents and all that - though other people have been known to give me that title :-))

2. She certainly knows that I went to a match 2 days after she was born, and treats it with lofty disdain. However it's not as bad as ny dad who went to a match when my mum was in labour with me!

Same as my dad. Except he went to watch the pigs

I know you like to shoe-horn politics into most conversations Dazzler but since when has a young child using the word "Daddy" been a party-political thing?

I suspect he means his kid call him Darren.

They do indeed. It's actually not a consciously political thing (I was being a bit ironic above). They did it from an early age (probably because their Irish nanny referred to us as "Darren" and "Gill" and not "mummy" and "daddy") and their mum and I were fine with that.

20 years ago today or thereabouts Stevenage were winning the Isthmian League Div 1 in front of average crowds of 601 and today we appear to have conceded underdog status to them
