How many people attended both this match and the last game of the following season when we beat Burnley at home?

I think they did some kind of ballot?

The attendance was listed as 8,000.

The attendance of the Burnley match? I thought it was far less than that, about 5000. I was at both, I might be misremembering but I don't remember there being massive take-up for the tickets which were pretty pricy considering we were down.

I'd quite like for anything from March 2020-August 2021 to be stricken from the "On This Day" record to be quite honest, I'm still not ready to deal with it.

You're probably right with that.

The ESPN match summary has the attendance as 5,096.

Wikipedia says 8,000 for some reason.

Beans

I'm guessing clubs were allowed to offer tickets roughly equivalent to 25% of the stadium capacity but we never sold that many as you said.

That would explain the figure of 8,000.

Painful watching that game back, I really believe we would’ve pushed on and got some sort of Europe, and I also believe Sharp would’ve got to double figures. The team were playing with unbelievable belief and for me personally I was in dreamland and wouldn’t go 5 minutes without looking at the league table, believing I’d fallen into an episode of black mirror. There is not one other team in the world I believe suffered to the same level we did by COVID. We left the lane 5th in prem and returned 24th in championship as we lost our first game back in championship.

He only scored 3 goals up until March. I doubt he would have even doubled that, pretty certain he was told he could leave if he wanted to but it was his decision in the January of 2020.

He was starting games by that point and firmly in the starting 11

I realise your post was probably "tongue in cheek" ,
but my sympathy in that period goes to JoC ,
from the verge of an England call-up ,
to never playing again ,

He was certainly magic ,
And then the life he must have been contemplating
disappeared in a puff of smoke

Only we get that sort of luck. It literally needed a world wide pandemic to put the breaks on our form because I really do think we would have got European football that season.

i still remember how funny i thought it was someone near me. was wearing a mask. i didnt find it as funny 5-7 days later. i still think what if, as i believe that was our year to make europe & to play in the fa cup final
