Smells like Winnall to me

If my reading of wilders interview is correct we are deffo interested in winnall.

Didn't laugh it off which you'd assume he would do - gave it the generic "lot of bids made / strikers are in high demand"

That said out till October - then got to come back from a serious injury. We'd be lucky if he could contribute before Xmas. So I don't know why he'd be a target now / especially on loan? I just cant see it when we are desperate for striker.

Maybe the injuries are not what they seem. I know a story of a basket ball player who is telling everyone he’s injured so he doesn’t / can’t get traded. If it is true, let’s hope the story is similar

I think unfortunately this injury was a pretty severe one while he was in Derby's starting line up.

seems an odd one to me. My only thought is we try and get him on the cheap whilst he's injured and Wednesday need some cash - then wait for him to regain some fitness. Maybe that's why we'd take someone like McGoldrick for a year for competition and to compete while winnall is out.

High risk but potential High Reward.

That said if I was having a bet I'd stick a quid on it being someone else.

When Winnall's fit there'd be more competition for him. And Sheffield United don't fare well with competition. That might be why we're considering going for him now.

Maybe because he's cheap enough to be worth a punt for Wilder? If he gets back in November and scores shitloads and we got him at crocked price then it'll be a good cheeky deal.

I'd be all for it but only if it's in addition to a couple of fit first 11 strikers.

Yeah - just said the same in a reply to Sheffielder

Would only make sense to get the deal done on the quiet before interest hots up.

May also stack up with taking mcgoldrik on trial - could contribute so we there would be less pressure to rush winnall back.

Still think I'd be happier waiting til we know he's the same player he was before injury - that said it may be our best chance at getting him,

Hmmm, If that’s lee Gregory.

I’d file That one in the whelmed category.... Would have been pleased last year but it’s not exactly one to set the pulses rising is it? Don’t seem him as A player who could take us to the next level at the sort of money they’d be after for him.

Maybe is Lineker, Gary.

More I think about it - i could deffo see this one happening though. I reckon wages have been an issue with our key targets and have forced our hand.

Maybe we're trying to be the only team in the league with a strikeforce made up exclusively of 30 somethings.

Clarke - 33
Sharp - 32
McGoldrick - 30
Gregory - 30

Interesting strategy...

Then by January Ched will be 30 so he'll be eligible to be brought back into the fold as well.

We're not really solving the lack of goals either. Gregory had a good season but he didn't score that many did he? Without checking wiki.

Gregory has been keen to come since Wilder's arrival, but needed the stars to align. - Not ITK, but my sister is mates with his Missus.

Edit: Pretty decent, but reckon we still need pace. Which is where I reckon Gallagher comes into things. Gregory is the alternative to Hogan (in my opinion).

Gregory for £1.6m according to someone on their forum.

Little bit Meh - can only hope there are still another couple to come in (we did have at least 5 options last year) and he’s again improving the depth of the squad not our number the number one transfer target.

I really don’t seem him as anything more than an average championship striker. We still have zero pace up top. And no one under 30 has signed up yet.

That said i’ll of course give him a chance.

Not even a mention of wages or budget! :)

Gregory has seemed inevitable for a long time and it's not at all an exciting prospect.

He'd be a replacement for Sharp and an alternative to Hogan.

If he arrives, don't expect Hogan to.

Better than I thought. I agree it's either Hogan or Gregory.
We're desperate for an outlet. This is where Eisa comes in for me. But it's important we don't buy a speedboat without a driver, last thing we need is a Jonathan Forte or John Cofie.

Well, you know what they say........

Not over enthused with the idea of Lee Gregory signing but you know he’ll give his all.

Agree - it does kind of feel like yeah of course it’s going to be Gregory . Talk of top end championship players was always a bit of a stretch

Abit like Gallagher, winnall, hogan were beyond us so we’ve made do.

That said we end up with say

Sharp/Clarke/Gregory/mcgoldrick and (AN other.)

Imo we look stronger than last year. Gregory will not be short on effort at least. Replacing Hanson, lavery and ched, Wilson and Donaldson would make us stronger. Given that’s 5 out there should be at least 1 more to sign shouldn’t there???

Yeah - I can see a Gregory/Gallagher combo working well, because as you say the pace is what we are clearly missing.

Thats why I think we are persevering so much with SG because there arent as many ideal plan b's for that role.

Personally think Gregory is a great plan b to SH.

There's certainly not many in the lower leagues. Jack Marriott is one of 2 I'd be excited about from Leagues 1 & 2 and he's valued by PBoro at 6.5mil.

18 in 41 in league one. Scored 10 in 43 last season in the championship.
