Well I’ve had tonsillitis about 6 Times and never needed a drip or hospital and been back at work within 5 days.

The only thing is if Brooks can’t take Penicillin then I believe the treatment is more complicated.

It can be prolonged and there are possible complications, like quinsy, which is horrible.

"If oral antibiotics aren't effective at treating bacterial tonsillitis, intravenous antibiotics (given directly into a vein) may be needed in hospital."

Also he's a footballer, he gets the best quickest treatments so it could be.

I got glandular fever in '83 in my first year at uni and couldn't play football for a full 12 months it affected me that badly.

Remember running for the train in Nottm to go to a cup game away at Lincoln (Blades lost) and was burning up and gasping for breath. Horrible feeling.

He’s the right age for glandular fever but they usually do a simple blood test for that.

I got glandular fever at 19 and went down to 10.5 stone. Needing to sleep during day. Missed the Blackburn quarter final replay because of it.

Only had a blood test at the GP.

I had glandular fever in 1989, the doctor telling me to avoid crowds and excitement. I chose to attend the Brighton home game as I thought we'd win comfortably, keeping my stress levels down. 5-4. Kept me off work for a further month, that did.

I've had three bouts of tonsillitis, the worst being in 2006. When I felt a bit better I went off to Upton Park; Mike Reilly's antics had me going beserk in the crowd, shouting myself hoarse. That last minute disallowed goal meant I had another fortnight off work.
