Tom Davies injury

No doubt it's frustrating for us fans, but it's not his fault he's never fit. I'm sure it frustrates him that he can't go a month without picking up some sort of injury. Seems a sound lad off the pitch, and wish him all the best when he inevitably goes in the summer.
That's the point, no player wants to waste his career injured. What's isn't fair, however, is they pick up full wages for basically doing nothing to help the club.

He's exactly like James Wallace actually, even down to being ex Everton

seem to remember an interview with Wallace, possibly after his time with us not sure, where he admitted part of the problem was in his mind. Wondering if Davies is similar.

Davies signed for us in August 2023.

2023/24: three substitute appearances in September followed by a 3 month, 15 match injury lay off. Back for 6 matches (4 sub, 2 starts in both of which he was withdrawn at half time) before a hamstring injury saw him miss the final 10 matches

2024/25: the hamstring injury picked up at the end of the previous season kept him out for the first 15 matches. Three sub appearances followed by a run of 6 starts in 7 over Christmas and New Year was a false dawn as two injuries saw him miss four and then 11 matches with a three match spell on the bench in between (2 apps). Came back as a sub in the final match of the season and then all three play off games (a total of 53 minutes over the four).

2024/25: a calf issue kept him out of the first 7 matches. Made one sub appearance and one start before a recurrence saw him miss the next four. Three sub appearances (there's a trend!) followed before another 10-match layoff. Two matches as an unused sub were followed by starts against Ipswich (63 mins) and Millwall (45 mins) before injury struck again. He's missed the three subsequent matches and is unlikely to feature before Easter.

2023/24: 3 in, 15 out, 6 in, 10 out
2024/25: 15 out, 12 in, 4 out, 3 in, 11 out, 4 in
2025/26: 7 out, 2 in, 4 out, 3 in, 10 out, 4 in, 3 (and counting) out
Great summary.

In a normal job, with this sickness record, you'd be out of the door.

Time to say goodbye.

You watch - he’ll leave us in the summer & go elsewhere and play 30 games next season!!!!

It’s not black & white but you do look at Brewster, McBurnie, Kieffer Moore - just from our recent history - and wonder at times what we are doing so wrong that an injury prone player when with us can suddenly be fit enough to play 30 games plus in a season.

Believe it or not Brewster was available/in the squad for 41 of our 46 games last season + 3 play off games. No suprise he's doing ok this season
They've got some weight off him at Derby - can only help his joints and pace

It is said that his career has turned out this way, he seems genuinely nice lad. That said, the club isn't a charity, and without the luxury of parachute payments, it's one we can't afford.

One question to ask at the Forum this week could be :
"Looking back over , say , 5 or even 10 seasons , are older , high quality players - with a propensity to be out injured - worth the deliberate financial gamble the club has been taking ?"

In general if a "sensible risk" I would say yes, although some haven't been the best, having the experience in there or even the different approaches gives us massive advantages. The successes being Didzy, to some extent Mee has done well especially on a free and has helped the defence. Bamford has been excellent. Jairo (ironically when fit) has been a top asset too. It is a gamble and we do need to have a bloated squad but it has helped the youngsters coming through to have the experience around them. As Wilder interviewed after the Pompey game about Phillips he was expected to only play 60 mins but was closer to 80. The key is to managing the minutes and build partnerships, we almost do have at least a squad and a half nearly 2 squads worth of rotation. The demands of midweek and weekend football are pretty high to be fair.
