Wilders literally just said in his press conference that we’ve put a bid in for him and he wants to come here along with all our main targets

will be interesting to hear if the Sunlun boss says the same in his presser!

I'm confused.. Wilder says all targets want to come here.

But Leicester media saying Leicester accepted both ours and Sunderland bid and up to player to choose.

So if Cannon wants to come here and Leicester OK with our offer.. where the Fook is he?

Unless agent waiting to see which club offers the best agent bonus 🤷‍♂️

He refused to confirm whether they are interested in him or not. Said it wasn't right to comment on speculation. He didn't deny interest so that would likely confirm that they are in for him.

Still think he will come to us going on what CW has said this morning.

Wilder said he's supremely confident our first choice targets join...
That means nothing really though does it, not without names. Every time anyone has joined since Wilder came back he's given it the old "such-and-such is a player we've known all about for a long time and was our first choice target for this window"... after they've signed.

He's hardly going to say "welcome to the club Tommy, you wouldn't have been our first choice as we all know but I'm sure you'll do a job for us"

He deff said a couple of signings … the club Ned to keep their mouth shut on incoming players as we are historically slow to do deals.
OK, do you have a link to where he said he expects a couple of new signings in for Norwich?
As I've said the only thing I've found is where he mentions options for Norwich and then lists the players coming back but never says 2 are coming in.

It’s not just me saying it … he definitely gave the impression he was extremely confident of two even if he never said it directly both wilder and the recruitment team should say nothing until deals are done ….

He’s for it again today and raised expectation again fans will be rightly disappointed if they dont transpire

At the end of the day we are all just big kids and like kids if you hint at them gettig their first choic Xmas present what do you expect they will think 😂

Pretty sure he did say it. Not just returning players. May not have been in the BBC/club interview clips but the full length ones which aren't kept

He named Cannon as someone we had put a bid in for...

If you want quality you have to be prepared to wait
Depends on how certain you are that the quality will have the insurance impact you want … if your nailed on certain then pay a bit extra

Or let your rivals get 9 points clear and then ply catch up….

It’s a fine balance

It’ll be funny on here if he does sign for Sunderland. He’ll go from overpriced and not that good to evidence that United are rubbish and we’re losing top players to our direct rivals. We’re such a schizophrenic fanbase

I actually doubt it, on this occasion.
From what I've gleaned from this thread & Twitter there isn't an overwhelming enthusiasm from either fan-base (ours / Sunderland's) to spend £13m on Cannon.

I'm lukewarm on it.
I'm intrigued to know why Wilder is so keen, he's obviously seen something in him... but at the same time, I'm slightly wary of his instincts on forwards given the previous times we spent big money (Brewster and to a lesser extent McBurnie & Mousset).

Maybe I picked a good game to watch Cannon, but against Burnley he gave their CBs a far tougher time than anything we were able to muster.
His movement was great and he could have had a couple of goals.. Even withstanding, I thought £7m was a pretty reasonable offer given his physical and athletic limitations. At that price, there's still plenty of upside left in the deal given his young age.

I've seen some people comparing this with the £10m we received for Will Osula. However, Osula is 6'4, rapid, strong(ish) and able to use both feet. He's incredibly raw but the ingredients for a PL CF are there.
Lys Mousset is the only striker we've had that had those ingredients to step-up... unfortunately, the mind didn't match the talent for long enough.

I think the lads on BladesPod summed it up quite well.
It feels like we would be paying the absolute maximum of what Cannon could ever be worth, as we did with Oli McBurnie.
Even if Tom Cannon became a 20 goal a season man at this level, his value would still only increase very slightly and I don't think many Championship clubs would shell that sort of money out (£13-16m).
Look at somebody like Adam Armstrong as an example, a yo-yo forward.

The CBs in the PL are absolute monsters. If you're not able to move & push them around they'll just swallow you up.

*I'll caveat the above, because it probably sounds a little negative....
Wilder & co. have earned a leap of faith from all of us after a superb Summer window & somehow keeping us in touching distance of the top two despite a points deduction. If he wants him, then I'll assume he has a plan (despite reservations).
And its really encouraging to see him talking so enthusiastically about the new ownership and the support they're giving him.

I get it, I think people just need to be aware of what we're reading, and that a lot of it is re-heated.
For example that quote about playing poker is from last week (unless he's repeated himself) but I'd like to see the interview.

There is a very lucrative business in getting fans engaging with online content, and they're all at it to keep you clicking day after day when not much has really changed.

He didn’t categorically say there would be 2 players signed. I’m sure he said he was confident that there would be 2-3 new faces in the building before the Norwich game.

True, but with only 20 games remaining, & 4 before deadline day, that value deteriorates the longer things go on.
20% of our remaining games are in the next two weeks. I doubt we'll get any discounts on Feb 3rd.

Think he mentioned it after Cardiff. He definitely said we should have a couple in along with a few back from injury

I listened to that one and captured it in another post. He didn't say we should have a couple in.

just watched the interview post Watford and he says with the Norwich game looming in 2 week potentially reinforcements, 5 players back and then we can go for it in the last 20 games of the season.

Post Cardiff: “come the Norwich game if we don’t get players over the line prior because it’s difficult and a difficult window to get players early….” “If you bring 2 or 3 in then you have 7 knocking on the door”

If we win tomorrow we're in a better position than we are today because Burnley and/or Sunderland are dropping points tonight

Wilder said after Cardiff - “2 or 3 in, working hard on that”.

He’s just providing an update on what we’re doing transfers wise, no promises made.

Depends on the player obviously and the difference in quality. But as an example Burnley have signed Barnes, I’d be amazed if anyone on here would rather have him available for 20 matches over someone like Cannon or McBurnie for 16 matches.

The squad is thread bare and we’re desperate for more players, but we ain’t that desperate that we should be just signing anyone that’s available.

My mistake there then bud, I’m pretty confident he’s mentioned close to a couple. Can’t quite pin which interview it were.
I honestly think we all thought we heard him say it, but going back and listening to them all I'm just not entirely sure he did.
