Time to decide, Jose - the pies or the pitch?

I love watching Baxter, the footballer, but get royally fed up with watching Baxter, the lumbering, pie-muncher, who plays at 70% of capacity due to being 10kg overweight.

Cloughie and co got Harry up to peak fitness as a priority last season, and saw an immediate impact in his performances, so what's happening with Baxter?

I reckon a fit Baxter, with an extra half-yard of pace, would have buried his two chances today and killed the game before Bradford's sending off.

It would be good to see him a bit sharper, and maybe losing a bit of weight would do that.

I do think that he has a demeanour about him on the pitch generally which will always leave him open to accusations of being lazy, unfit etc. I think that is just part of him and we'll need to accept that if we want him in our team.

I think it's just his build...yes he lacks pace but his game is more guile than pacey. .He is what he is and I'd rather him on the pitch than sat on the bench. .

Being a fat bastard never hurt Andy Reid but having said that Jose should have had two goals in the first half.

It did hurt and held him back a lot. He's realised it and is now a lot fitter than he was. I wish Baxter would get inspiration from him:

I remember a player from a few years ago who people said looked overweight and lazy, his name was Tony Currie I seem to recall

Reid's big chance was at Spurs and now it's far too late of him to reach his potential. Baxter is gifted, but not like Reid, and he'll not make Championship grade without shaping up.

or maybe it's because he's been recovering from an injury and not been able to train/work out at 100% yet. It's his footballing brain and not his fitness that gets him picked.

In fairness to Baxter he's not fully match fit having just returned from a hamstring injury... He'll need a few weeks then I hope he's back in midfield as I think that's his strongest position

Am not too sure that Jose cares a lot at times.

But that's why we have him, if he was fit he would be playing in a far better league.

He's not fat, he's lost lots of weight since last season already, its funny that some players will always get called fat even when theyre not, like Frank Lampard.

As I don't get to watch a lot of the blades anymore, seeing them on Saturday was great, and could see straight away Baxter is a midfielder through and through, I would like to have seen him playing in the central role behind the striker.

I like Baxter a bit deeper. In the closing stages against Bradford he was almost occupying the centre circle and was spraying balls out wide. Reminded me a bit of Rooney.

I think he's at his best in that "free role". That gets him on the ball creatively and also would enable him to get into goalscoring positions too.

Baxter for Scougall and Scougall for McNulty in the next game for me

The problem with Baxter dropping that deep was that he was just facilitating us moving the ball from side to side with zero momentum. That's all very well if your team's technical ability is at Barcelona levels and the pitch is perfect but neither of those applied in this instance. We put ourselves under undue pressure through that which let Bradford come onto us in that 10 minute spell before our second goal killed the game.

Baxter should have been 10 yards further up the pitch, looking to get the ball off Doyle, McGahey or McCarthy in a position where we could build something useful.

I presume you mean playing Baxter behind McNulty with Scougall on the bench? That I can agree with.

Exactly right ,we are a team built for momentum ,Baxter slows us down and costs us. No use having wingers beating men and crossing it when we have no forward because we have to facilitate Baxter and he cant get in the box. We cant afford him in midfield either ,he hasn't got the presence movement strength or fitness to play in there. Decent on the ball but very over rated ,we have other players just as capable.

Get rid.
His attitude stinks which is why his body and his performances are always shite and will never be anything different.
Would never have been accepted as an academy player.
He would have been judged for what he is not this ludicrous Everton superstar rubbish.

He swapped shirts with one of the Bradford players at full time and he didn't look fat. It's just the way he's built.

That's nearer the truth.
He spends too much time posing in the gym building up bulk rather than trying to improve his running to give him a chance of being a player!
He offers nothing except total frustration..

Saw him at Burton in pre-season and have to say he looked in much better shape than last season. Still needs some work but he has that shape which means people will always think he is heavier than what he is.

Don't think Clough would play him if the fitness team thought he was out of shape

I take it you've not been much this season and not seen any of his goals. To say he offers nothing is absolute ludicrous as you so put it.I will not resort to putting what i want to put about some of your posts,it wouldn't look nice.

He's blatantly not fat. Some people have bigger frames, some people have smaller frames.
