Time to admit Scougall isn't good enough?

played three games without him in the side after the Gillingham loss, won all 3.

Coutts/Baxter have taken his role i believe... much better players technically than Scougall.

Obviously you hadn't noticed he'd been returning to the form he showed when he first signed? Silly to write him off. It's like those posters who wrote Murphy off before Clough took hold of him and gave him the confidence to become the player we now value so highly.

You say he's been replaced by Baxter who has been injured for practically two of the games and Coutts who didn't play there last night?

I think Scougs form was picking up - his work rate is exceptional - Done, Coutts and Brayford coming in has been much more of an influence than Scougs being injured.

Not one to knock players where it can be helped but I've never been convinced by Scougall even when he was playing better last year. Like Murphy (& most players) he very much seems to thrive on confidence but even then he doesn't create enough, do enough damage in the opponents' final third or score enough for someone in his position even though he covers lots of ground, looks busy and gives 100%.

I agree that there are others better than him in the AMC position - out of all of them I'd like to see Cuvelier given a few games when he's fully fit.

Well Coutts didn't take this role last night, Holt did. And presumably holt replaced Baxter on Saturday v Bristol C. So you need to clarify which role Scoogs would be playing.

Personally I thought Scoogs would've been a cracking introduction later in the game, playing off Done and latterly McNulty.

I think Holt is a suitable back up for Scoogs and Cuvelier could also play the pacey attacking midfielder quite well.

I think he's a very good player - please we have him, shame he's injured.

Scougall didn't even play against Gillingham. He limped out of the home tie against Preston when it was 1-1.

I think it's been key that we moved Baxter away from a position that was too physically/defensively too demanding for him and also tweaked the formation. It wouldn't have been so successful without Done's contribution though, and I'm sure he will help Scougall improve as well, when he returns.

A post of mine regarding Jamie Murphy #KnowNowt

Absolutely no! He offers very little going forward and even less tracking back. I was excited when we signed him, he seemed the right type; a young, left sided, skillful player with an eye for goal. Unfortunately he has been forgetful at best whenever he put the shirt on. I was hoping we could've moved him on today with the other deadwood.

What that tells me Deadly is that (a) you've got humility, (b) you did what many of us have done and will no doubt go on to do again, and (c) when you see a player who flatters to deceive, that's all any of us can judge them on.

It's why I often defer to the judgements of those with experience at a professional level. Don't get me wrong, there are many professionals who appear clueless, but at least the majority know how the game is played and what might be needed for certain players to improve their game. So it was with Murphy.

I think that Murphy re-signing with the Blades was as vital a piece of news as the signing of Brayford, or bringing Done on board.

If Nigel Clough has taught me one thing, it is that your point of deferring judgement on players to the experts that our club can be trusted nowadays. Around the time of that post I was vying for Clough to sack off Collins, Doyle, Flynn and would have been ambivalent about selling Maguire. Collins was our Player of the Season last year imo, I will be saddened when Doyle leaves in July and enthusiastic about a future United side with Flynn & Murphy.

Totally agree DJaffo. .

The players we have brought in to the club , are working out to be good acquisitions . I think sometimes we forget the age of some of the players and being inconsistent is all part of there progression . Also some of the players would be playing at a much higher level , if they were not so inconsistent . This is were its helping us with player rotation . The icing on the cake helping this is Matt Done , and thankfully he has hit the ground running.

I will also be saddened when Doyle leaves , but thats football life. Get promotion this season , and i do believe the sky's the limit for the blades , but in a way of slowly slowly , catch a monkey.

That sums up my opinion on Scougall.

He hasn't been in good form at all this season but seems to always start if fit. A bit of time on the bench and coming on later in matches might have helped to build up his confidence.

He's still young so can't write him off just yet.

I think Scoogs is a cracking player, i think injuries have hampered him this year, a disrupted pre-season and not having a settled run in the side have really held him back. I think he'll come good again (and indeed seemed to be showing good form just before the latest injury)

Given his age, I think in a couple of years we'll have a real gem of a player.

Scougs has played much deeper this season to the benefit of Doyle not himself.

EDIT - The one game Scougs did score in was away at Crewe when Wallace was in midfield. Hopefully having Coutts will allow Scougs to get forward when fit.
