I am one of the first to admit he has been very very poor, but before the JTW opens is it time to give him a few games under Clough? He had a couple of ok (ish) moments when he came on Tuesday and is surely more suitable to a wide attacking role than Coady or Lappin.

If we give him a few starts from now until the end of December and if he doesn't do it for us then unload him back to Scotland in January, if he finally comes good it might be like signing a new player for us.

It's getting towards shit or bust stage so why not?

I thought he was abysmal when he came on v Walsall. He didn't even seem to want the ball. You would have expected him to be extra determined to show what he can do but as usual the game just passed him by.

I would give him another chance, certainly in the home games where we surely need to play a winger. He has been poor, but overall I still think he is the best winger we have (which is no great compliment really).

I don't know what to think about Murphy. He was a big fish in a little pond north of the border but he's moved down here and at most looks remotely average. As somebody said above hitting the nail on the head, effort goes a long way and at times I feel that he doesn't pull his weight in games and it pees me off.

We have a new manager now so why not give him a shot to see if he is worthy, if he doesn't take the chance then I see no reasons to keep him.

What United need at the moment is as many points as they can muster. I think NC has worked out that United are unlikely to score from open play with Weir's / Wilson's players and decided that the one point they have at the beginning of every game is worth hanging on to. This explains the current ultra defensive set up with the double back four.

In my view Jamie Murphy has the potential to be half decent in this league but he's had plenty of chances to turn the potential into reality but failed with a series of generally insipid performances. This is the Football League not the Sunday League and we shouldn't risk the defensive stability we seem to be building by starting with somebody, who has had more than enough chances to prove his worth, because his mother might complain about him not getting a game.

Having said that I hope he comes off the bench on Saturday, scores three and rams my words right down my throat!

Since we haven't signed anyone I would give him a last chance. I can understand away from home playing Coady and Lappin wide as it gives the team a more solid feel and the "2 banks of 4" which Clough is after.

At home though give him a whirl, even up front, as I believe thats his favoured position.

Absolutely no! He offers very little going forward and even less tracking back. I was excited when we signed him, he seemed the right type; a young, left sided, skillful player with an eye for goal. Unfortunately he has been forgetful at best whenever he put the shirt on. I was hoping we could've moved him on today with the other deadwood.

No. I would bomb him out as soon as possible. Just anothet wankstain going through the motions and one of the current crop of players i despise the most.

My problem with Murphy is he doesn't even look remotely athletic, let alone a professional athlete, even less a footballer. I think it's time to get rid of the knock kneed, disinterested, bottle less twat. Send him home to Scotland and while your at it, cease all contact with the person who scouted him too!

Yeah give him a chance. He's here until jan so lets see what he can do under Clough.

How anyone could make an informed opinion of him based on 10 mins or so at the end of the Walsall game is beyond me.

Again, seems like Murphy, McGinn and Baxter have done enough in training to push them closer to first team action, so lets see what they've got in the next few weeks.

I'm afraid Jamie Murphy is not happy here in Sheffield and it shows in his body language out on the field. He has no appetite for football this side of the border and a move back to Scotland is best all round for him and us.

Maybe playing him in his favoured position would be a start. The amount of people who think he's a winger is worrying.

One of the biggest disappointments of late.

I'd like to see him a forward central midfield role just behind the front two.
He come here as a midfield /striker so let's give it a go.
Can't think of anything else for him he's running out of time here.
Most of this squad must realise this month is crucial for their future at this club before the next window opens

Racy: Clough doesn't set the team up that way. We already have Baxter & Cuvelier who could play in that role. However the plan at the moment seems to be 2 "holding" midfielders (Doyle + 1 other).

Well straight swap for Coady then he'll do no worse.
But start him he's one of ours not a loanee make him feel involved

If I was a professional footballer and thought that the manager (s) were playing me out of position I would make my preferred position very clear.
How come many people on here think that he's playing out of position, not being very good and accepting it and the sh!t from the supporters.
Probably the truth is either he is very homesick and cannot adjust to life south of the border, being played out of position by now four managers who don't realise that he is a world beater or basically he's not very good and typifies the gulf between English and Scottish football - My guess it's the latter !

If we somehow manage to get the team playing quick, attacking, decent football Jamie Murphy will be worth a go and maybe show his potential. He's not the player to make us such a team unless there are plenty of other players also offering an attacking threat.

So with the current tactics, it'll be hard for him to impress. He's got different attributes to the ones which the management prefer at the moment.

(some more thoughts on the same here: http://scandinavianblades.webs.com/apps/blog/entries/show/37515007-fans-too-harsh-on-players )

Summed it up with that post

We might as well had a cardboard cut out on the right against Walsall than Coady so trying Murphy could be an option.

I'm wondering if someone is going to start a thread about one of our players that doesn't end in a torrent of abuse aimed at them?

Not much scope for that I'm afraid.

Diego Whatsits on the basis that he's young, promising and hasn't proved to be shit/disinterested/cowardly/slow/feeble.
Can't think of any others as they've all played a significant part in a season of hideous quality.

Oh hang on, perhaps Miller as well as he's only just back from injury and he might, just might though, be the catalyst that sparks the revival.

WHy doesn't Murphy deserve another chance? Other have had one such as Doyle, McGinn, Porter etc

The problem is he won't suit the defensive set up we have at present. I was hoping the loan to Preston would be true to see what he had in him away from us.

Nine appearances for Miller without a goal now.
If Porter (or King or Taylor or anyone else) had those stats they would be getting slaughtered for it.
I'm not slagging Miller because I like him as a player but it shows the double-standards that apply.

Incidentally, Porter and Miller are both out of contract in June 14 unless we take up a one year option.
On recent form you would have to say Porter is more likely to get an extension than Miller. Isn't he?

It's the injury thing that is keeping the wolves from the door Sothers.

If he'd had a pre-season and come in firing blanks then he'd be being slaughtered like the rest. A year out with a bad injury 1) buys you some time when you get "fit" 2) Turns you into the second coming whilst you're away and the rest of the team perform like twats.

Diego will get the grace of the first two plus 3) He's very young and 4) He's from our junior set up and is therefore not being paid a kings ransom.

he's not a winger.
