Time for a £10M "gamble"?

So here’s the plan….

McCabe sends an email to The Prince (or vice-versa):-

“Hey look, I know that we no longer see eye to eye but I’ve got a proposal that could greatly benefit us both.
United now have a golden opportunity to get promoted that may never present itself again in our lifetimes.
What do you say we both give Chris Wilder £5M to spend as he sees fit in this transfer window?

Best case scenario, the extra £10M makes all the difference, we get promoted and hit the £200M jackpot (20% chance?)
Most likely scenario, he invests the £10M wisely and grows the £10M to a value of maybe £15-40M with a shrewd acquisition or two (70% chance?)
Worst case scenario, he invests the £10M badly and reduces the £10M to a value of maybe £2M (10% chance?)

If we do succeed, we all become heroes to the supporters and legends forever more.
If we fail, well at least nobody can say we didn’t try and push the boat out a little when the opportunity was there.
Seems like a no-brainer of a worthwhile gamble to me. What do you say?”

It's a daft scenario but i applaud the sentiments. Any club in a decent position like ours, with a decent manager like ours, with a big ground and big support should be falling over backwards to give Wilder the backing to give us the best chance possible. It's not going to happen because they're a set of penny pinching w*****s on the board.

At least your post has drawn out all the usual small timers (tbh I wish they'd f*** off and watch Rotherham, a perfect match, a small time club to match their small time ambition), oohhh we don't want United to spend any money, lets see how it goes with what we've got ... well when we fail in May time, either missing out on top 6 or losing in the play-offs and Wilder's moved onto pastures new, let's not have all small timers crying on here with what might have been.

I know Wilder works miracles with very little money....but IF we had £10m in January to spend (which is a bad market to buy in) who could you realistically buy that guarantees some type of success?

At that fee you’d probably say £5m centre mid & £5m striker? I’d possibly suggest Maddison & Maja.....and to be honest I don’t think they guarantee you success

I've got an idea to raise funds.
How about coming up with a scheme to get fans to invest?
We could charge £500 or so and for this the fan would get a commemorative tea towel with a picture of Captain Blade and their name written on it with a Sharpie. These would have to have a degree of exclusivity so wouldn't be available to buy in the club shop (until the close season when we could chuck them in the dump bins near the till next to the little red teddy bears and knock 'em out for a fiver)
Each fan investing could also get a 1.5% discount off next years Premier League season ticket WHEN we get there and "Donaldson" printed on the back of any home shirt FOC (as long as the shirt was purchased in person at the shop while asking for it in the style of Yoda "Hmm The name Donaldson on the shirt I would like, print it you must")
We could call it something really cool like "the 1889 club"
This time next year Kev, we'll be millionaires

If only this forum had some more really ambitious posters like you we could...well...umm...I'm not sure what would happen really.

we have never had 10m to spend max we will probably have is 2m

£ 200 million jackpot...

Fulham have spent £100 million on transfer fees in the summer and I reckon the wage bill will account for most of the other £ 100 million.

The fans have enjoyed endured witnessing 3 victories out of 23 games.

Look like dropping straight back down with a £100 million wage bill..

Jackpot..

If you think £ 10 million is a good gamble go for it , also bring us close to P&S limit I think

Funny how you mention Fulham but not Wolves, Watford, Bournemouth, Brighton or Burnley.

Promotion to The Premiership didn’t do them any harm and their fans seem to be enduring it ok.

Thinking big Billy. You might be shifted from the “fuck off to Rotherham” list and get on the “Proper Blade” list if the Master of the Rolls sees this when he’s finished shouting “McCABE” at pigeons.

“Great idea Kev, I’d do it mate but if the player goes on to be the next Ronaldinho and he gets sold in two years for 100mill I might not see my half, if he doesn’t we both lose now, and wasn’t that why we sold brooks, so one of us didn’t lose another £7 mill when we also lose control”

Somebody has to lose the court case, and any future windfall by our imminent success, which they both think is on the horizon... that’s the only gamble the owners are taking fighting it out because of the undoubted potential..

(In my mind we are already a very successful championship side)

Never put all your eggs in one basket. Besides cant see me going if the prince takes over, the silence from the club is deafening. Needs sorting before I renew

Maybe? You think we would have turned down a £10m offer for DCL?

We sold him and Jug Ears to fund our promotion from L1, because our owners wouldn’t give Wilder enough money to do it without selling them.

And he was nowhere near good enough for the PL when we sold him. That he is now (arguably) is due to the passage of time.

...or the small matter that D C-L, like Brooks and Maguire, is surrounded by far better players?

oohhh we don't want United to spend any money, lets see how it goes with what we've got ...

It's not that we don't want United to spend money, it's just we know it's not going to happen. (At least, not how the OP suggests.)

The owners clearly aren't going to invest any further while they're battling in court: where is this magical windfall coming from?

I'd prefer £10m to be spent on the Brentford scouting chiefs. Finance them with our academy and Wilders organised chaos systems and it would mean when we do go up, we have the structure to sustain ourselves in the Billionaire boys club..

I wonder what kind of package Boro have put together to tempt John Obi Mikel, this is what we're competing agaist.

Might not of had to pay him too much as he was earning £150k a week tax free in China. He’s earn’t £15 million since he’s been there, tax free.

It's more of an envelope
