We had a player valued at £10m+ at the club recently, and he couldn't get in our team.

More than one, Brookes & Calvery-Lewin. Another odd bit of business on our part, seems odd we'd sell a lad that seemingly at the time was good enough for the prem but hardly featured for us.

“Hey look, I know that we no longer see eye to eye but I’ve got a proposal that could greatly benefit us both.
United now have a golden opportunity to get promoted that may never present itself again in our lifetimes.
What do you say we both give Chris Wilder £5M to spend as he sees fit in this transfer window?

Best case scenario, the extra £10M makes all the difference, we get promoted and hit the £200M jackpot (20% chance?)
Most likely scenario, he invests the £10M wisely and grows the £10M to a value of maybe £15-40M with a shrewd acquisition or two (70% chance?)
Worst case scenario, he invests the £10M badly and reduces the £10M to a value of maybe £2M (10% chance?)

If we do succeed, we all become heroes to the supporters and legends forever more.
If we fail, well at least nobody can say we didn’t try and push the boat out a little when the opportunity was there.

I doubt that either of them have five million going spare. McCabe's got it on paper but he'd probably have to flog one of his property investments to raise that kind of dosh.

They probably have. Both are usually quoted in terms of their business wealth which can be researched with a bit of digging. What is never considered is their personal wealth which none of us know anything about. It is however likely to be considerable and certainly worth a bit more than I've got in my ISA but it all becomes academic however as neither will be willing to invest any of it whilst there is a 50% chance they're never going to see it again.

Derek kept the cart on the wheels at this club between various shysters clowns and con men. He did as much for us as anyone while he was with us. But to claim that,despite recommending Warnock, he was the one who seemingly masterminded promotion despite McCabe is laughable. He retired because he said the modern game was passing him by. His great strength was that as well as being aware of the limitations of others, he was acutely aware of his own. A very honest man.

He retired before he passed away as well.

We sold him and Jug Ears to fund our promotion from L1, because our owners wouldn’t give Wilder enough money to do it without selling them.

And he was nowhere near good enough for the PL when we sold him. That he is now (arguably) is due to the passage of time.

The PL were paying for potential in Brooks and Calvert-Lewis because they could easily afford to take the risk.

Imagine if a PL club offered us 3 million for Callum Semple would you sell now?
Or refuse because you believe in 2 years he’ll be a PL regular worth over 20 million.

Imagine if he was playing for Spurs in 2 years there would be loads saying how stupid we were to sell him for only 3 million.
As they say hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Anyway one could easily argue that the sales of Calvert-Lewis and Brooks has a major effect towards us achieving promotion as it allowed us extra funds to strengthen the first team.

Man City at evens to reach the League Cup Final would be another "no brainer" of a gamble for example, so not really no.
Depends on the possibility of success, the potential gains and whether you can afford to lose the gamble or not.

Even if we could afford to push the boat out a bit, there’s isn’t much point doing it in January. Stick with what we’ve got and if a good deal comes up to offload a couple and bring someone potentially better in, do it.

Even if given £10m there’s no guarantee Wilder would spend it this season when the quotes started coming in.

We will never truly know how many players we have missed out on by not putting in the extra million fee or few hundred grand in wages.

More to the point we’ll not know who’s fault it was. Wilder not believing the valuation, the board not backing OR they might both have agreed to not pursue and perhaps we have not missed out on any targets.

That forward line will need some investment in the summer though ! But the dads army is marching on for now.

No, I’m fully expecting McCabe to read this thread and send the email tomorrow.

Would need to be a board decision, it’s not so easy as pinging off an email

Seeing as we borrowed money from a 3rd party lender recently I don’t see those funds being met internally.

The current dilspute will need to be resolved before that can happen.

Fulham have spent £100 million on transfer fees in the summer and I reckon the wage bill will account for most of the other £ 100 million.

The fans have enjoyed endured witnessing 3 victories out of 23 games.

Look like dropping straight back down with a £100 million wage bill..
