I want it now.

I want it now.

and that's precisely what's wrong with this club. Bastards like you always on the want.

We're the best run club in the land and when all these other clubs who aren't run nearly so well get their just desserts and go to the wall, we will rule the Premier League.
With our chairman at the helm and a forward thinking management team it's jam (and cream I tell you) tomorrow for definite.

I understand NJ's point. He is absolutely right in what he's saying as well. There is absolutely no realism amongst fans nowadays in terms of expectation. Blades supporters are just the same. Every single manager gets it. Warnock got it, so did Robson, so is Blackwell. Even further back, Kendall and Spackman used to get flack as well!

United fans have always been the same. The glass is always half empty, things are never good enough and its always because of the manager. Apparently it has nothing to do with the fact that we've won fuck all for generations, or that we have never had any serious money in the coffers.....nope, its the manager.

The fact that we've never won anything under anyone else post war has no bearing on things apparently. We're still entitled to be up at the top and if we're not someone is to blame for it. Other clubs' supporters suffer from this same condition; its known as "England Syndrome" and is spreads like wildfire during every World Cup. Inevitable early knockouts are known to aggravate the condition.

Absolutely, one season out of 17 in the top flight, five out of the last 35, no cup finals in 75, it's time to get real.
Do not compare ourselves with anyone else as we live in a unique SUFC bubble where general shitness is and will always be the norm.
Ours is not to wonder why, ours is to accept.
Mebbes it's a Sheffield thing.

Fickle ?, Blades ? ............ cheap as chips is a joke......never heard a peep from me when John Harris was around.... our gert would do a better job.

Ha ha...People didn't moan when John Harris was around! Nod Arf dey dint! We need a track suit manager was the cry in the 60's when Harris and his cardigan ruled the roost. So we got Arthur Rowley who was allegedly a 'track suit' manager, he lasted a year just about and it was back to John's cardigans again. Then it was 'track suit' Furphy, out there on the training ground with the lads (something Harris never did), he was soon jettisioned.
No doubt some people moaned about John Nicholson, Teddy Davison, Reg Freeman, Joe Mercer et al. People and football fans in particular are just feckin moaners full stop!

Thank you for allowing me that moan :-)

Hang on a minute. It's now the 5th of July. The transfer window has been open 5 days, all the free agents with contracts ending on the 31/6 have left their club, but United don't seem to have signed anyone. It's a week today until we go to Malta when KB stated 'hewants to have done the majority of his business in the transfer market'. I'm going to get a bunch of people stating 'we have time', 'chill out you muppet we've got another month', 'get a life knocker', 'there's always the loan market' and la de da ...... BUT is this thread starting to have a point after all? Times a ticking ..... come on Tricky Trev and King Kev GET BUSY!?

They're just waiting for Billy to go so we can get a couple more nomarks in to make up the numbers.

Yep, I have to agree with this to a large extent. The lack of transfer activity is mind-boggling. So much so that all we can seem to talk about is our Billy (possibly) going to Donny. I'm not getting depressed just yet but we need to get at least 2 or 3 in very soon if he wants them all together by the Malta trip.

We're getting excuses at the moment for not capturing players, such as "players need to be realistic," "Players need to lower their terms," "We have to be realistic" etc etc. I would suggest that if the players in question are asking for far too much then they were never within our reach to begin with.

The OS likes to spin it as well by saying players will get left on the shelf as clubs (plural) are not prepared to meet the demands. I can assure them myself that other clubs WILL sign these players and our absolute determination to be prudent will mean that we wont. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with our approach but if that is causing us a problem, then we need to set our sights lower.

Players are asking for that money because they and their agents know they can get it from somewhere. They're not stupid. If the club doesnt want to compete at those levels for salaries then just dont. Saying that players' terms are unrealistic just looks like bleeting..........

Having said that, I'm happy with the 4 we have signed and KB has done well with those.

I'm pleased to report that my mind hasn't boggled yet.

[I went to the Waddington Air Show yesterday. Saw a stunning aerobatic team called the 'Blades'. Pity that they've painted their aircraft blue].

Fair points Olle and Lou, but is it panic stations yet? Of course not. Sure we want to have all our business sorted, but what did that mean? 4 players? 6? 8?

I read KB's comments on the OS today and actually thought he talked sense. The money that WE were offering 2 years ago has gone. They want to play for us? Then they need to toe the line or go else where. Looking around the division, i wouldn't say that they're running for the hills to get to Cardiff, Pompey, Forest, Leeds or Burnley. So it seems that there isn't a massive rush yet...

In terms of transfer business, a lot of this wouldve depended on the likes of Morgs, Monty et al being tied down. So we saved ourselves a trip to market on those few.

Is this thread starting to have a point yet? I don't think so. We seem to be doing things right, lots of trialists in early, spreading our wings a bit to see how they play... I'd rather go down the try before we buy route instead of buy and then realise they don't fit.

I'm confident there will be a fair bit more to come yet, whether its all done and dusted before the tour of Malta remains to be seen, I guess it also depends on players and agents hanging out at other clubs expecting a fantastic deal... When that doesn't materialise then it will come down to players personal preference...

Players ask for big money because previously it was there and they aim high with so called big clubs in the division. You can bet your backside Burnley will be offered players on higher wages/fees than probably the same players were offered to say... Donny.... Billy Sharp perhaps?

I'm less concerned than I was, Simmonsen was a major boost, so right now i'm so unconcerned.

Are you labelling Britton and Simmonsen as nomarks Len?

He hasn't commented on Simmo as far as I am aware, and the only comment I've seen on Britton is that he's not as good as Pratley.

At the moment, he's concentrating on letting the young starlet Billy go to our rivals but ask him if he rates Billy and thinks he should play and you won't get an answer.

Yes, getting Simmo is an amazing deal. Pity a goalkeeper wasn't a position we needed filling at the end of the season.
Billy's quality isn't the real issue. We were supposed to be focusing on young, hungry players - how many do we have now? Jamie Ward?
I also seem to recall something being said about Billy at the much valued fans forum just a few weeks back.
Britton was Swansea's water carrier in a team that valued possession of the ball. If we're going to undergo a complete transformation this season he might turn out to be a useful cog in the wheel. Is Blackwell the man to do that?
And the one area we really were short has just seen us add a body from Crystal Palace.

Would that be fullback or Centre Half?

If it is fullback then the left fullback will shortly be covered by Dickinson, and something is also happening on the right fullback as we pulled out of the Connolly deal at the very last minute after everything was done.

We have one good defender in Morgan, that's it. Ertl and Dickinson are just bodies at this level.

77 replies would suggest otherwise ;) But seriosuly we are now 6 days away from going on tour 'when the majority of the deals should have been done'. Sure he has made some useful additions, but the defense needs urgent attention. Time to panic? As you say of course not. But time is a ticking. First of all the excuse was that players hadn't left there clubs, secondly it was that the trasnfer windows wasn't open, then it's that we need the money from the sale of Billy etc etc. Again, maybe I'm being premature but if we haven't signed a 3 or 4 players before next Monday then alarm bells will start ringing.

3 days until our pre season tour and we've effectively signed 3* players to add to our measely 16 contracted players. Players contracts are up, trasnfer window is wide open and we have cash (from Billy sale) but our squad is still absolutely thread bare. Anyone else starting to get concerned?

Tick tock, tick tock .........

* we've signed 5 players but sold 2.

So there we are. Blades fly to Malta today for a weeks tour. Today is the day that Blackwell 'will have his squad in place'. Yet we still have only 19 contracted players of which half are wither rubbish or crocked. We have made 3 (effectively) 3 additions to the squad. 3 additions to the pathetic 16 we already had. Now is the time to start getting concerned. We are unlikely to sign any players over the next week (unless its Birch running the show and not KB - which I admt is possible) and then we've got a couple of weeks until the season starts. Our defensive situation is embarassing. Sure the 'clappers' will say that we still have 4 weeks until the season starts, but time is ticking away. We may bring in a few rush signings in the few weeks before the season, but what chance tdo they have of gelling?

When does the loan window open. Sure I'm going to get told to chill out, or not to panic but I can tell you now that we will not make the play offs this year. Not even close.

Does anyone expect the play-offs this year anyway? I know i don't.

I agree. I'm starting to get a little concerned. The five signings we have made are all decent players (happy enough with those). But IMO we are still 5 or 6 players short with only a month to go before the start of the season. Get your skates on TB and KB!

Does anyone expect the play-offs this year anyway? I know i don't.

I expect a similar season to the last one. A painful and possibly fruitless playoff chase. We might just squeeze in if we're lucky but more likely it will be an 8th-11th finish.

Not even that. I'm readying myself for a bottom half finish. I'll stick to my guns and say 13th.

Even with what we already have we'll finish higher than that. The division is very very average (some would say poor). United would have to be fairly rubbish to finish in the bottom half and I dont think they are.

Have you seen our defence? What is it at the moment: Kozluk(!?), Morgs, Ertl (what is his natural postion) and Taylor. Even poor sides can/will rip that defense apart. Who is back up? Ryan France and erm .... ok. I agree that the division is average to poor, but so are we Lou. Midfield and up front is ok, but an injury to Britton and/or Cresswelll and we are in the shit.

oh I missed Simon Walton as defensive cover ..... oh nag on a minute!? eek
