It wasn't my expectation given the form of Leeds and Burnley. But it was definitely a possibility, due to us initially performing so well. We had a bit of luck too. Some of those wins should really have been draws.
We were two points clear with 7 games to go and the easiest run in of the three.

Nothing about our performances from Boxing Day should give anyone any confidence he’d have gone again this season. Performances & results were on the decline, he was falling out with players left and right, he was persisting with his mates when he should have been taking them out the team.

Some people are telling on themselves here by saying they would have been happy to finish mid table last season after a rebuild. Selles is having to do the same rebuild after losing a dozen players but now we have to get promoted? Interesting.

Who's saying we have to get promoted?

its a bit subjective , leeds and burnley both hit 100 points so perhaps wasnt that hard

think our 3-1 win over coventry isthe best weve played since beating burnley 5-2 beating boro 3-1 excellent away wins at watford and swansea were as good as you hope for away

so all 23 matches second half of the the season were poor you reckon

my your setting a very very high bar

coventry blew their chance , there wasnt a rush to sack Frank

Plenty on here have said that anything less than 92 points this season would be regarded as failure.
we like leeds who lost in a play off , kept their mnager and only needed to improve 10 per cent to go up

we are now in need of a 3000 per cent improvement on whats been offered up so far

Kev Gee.
Selles has no idea he didn't play professionally. You said plenty of managers did non play professionally.
You did not give any names, so can you name those who did a great job?I am interested to know.

Do the wilder haters really mean we were poor in EVERY win last season...
Just as realistic as my per centage
I wouldn’t know, you would have to ask them. I wanted a change but I don’t do hate. I don’t think I’m alone in that. Nothing is ever as black & white as you seem to think it is. But that’s social media for you.

On a purely comparitive basis, yes it would, but the acid test is promotion.

No promotion, but a massive improvement in the playing style, and the Second Coming disciples, could legitimately argue 'progress'.

So far, I only see the 'no promotion' bit and I'm seriously worried we could leave this league by the wrong end.

I'm asking you as a serious poster and one who has made it clear Wilder needed to go, what position would you see as 'failure'?

Some Sheffield United fans are a disgrace……..

Good question. For me, and in order of importance:

1. A sense of progress and momentum on and off the pitch.

2. A recognisable and entertaining style of attacking football where I can understand what we are trying to achieve.

3. If we are achieving the first two (and currently we aren’t) I would settle for a mid table finish this season.

4. But, being a bit greedy, I would like the play offs.

I wish I could be as sanguine as you, but with parachute payments coming to an end and a board that seems unable or unwilling to fund the club to the level needed for success in this division, I fear that anything short of success in the play-offs will mean a bleak few years for us. Really, really hope I'm wrong.

I’ve had real things going on in my life over the last few months so it’s very easy to maintain a perspective on something as relatively trivial as football.

I think anyone who tries to second guess how this season is going to pan out at the moment is a fool. It will be interesting to see what happens, though.

Some of us have some semblance of a thing called "patience", along with something other than "results oriented thinking"
That's very nice for you but unfortunately the thing called the league table is 100 percent results oriented and failing to get enough good results will see you exiting to a lower league table.

Agreed, I suspect many of us are in a similar position, and I'm sorry for anything you're going through. I'm not trying to second-guess the outcome of the season, merely stating that with the drop in income next season, if we don't gain promotion this season, then I personally feel we may have tough times ahead. As you say, it will be interesting to see what happens and I absolutely hope I'm wrong.

I suppose we should bring Wilder back, play like dog shit again, and just assume that we will run hotter than the sun in terms of how many points we actually get. Got you. The fact that you even mention the concept of relegation is ridiculous.

The ones that really got me were the ones like Rodwell and Ravel Morrison and also the ones, especially in the early days, that we chased for months and then hardly played. There were some very strange signings.

Every manager makes bad signings with hindsight, but some you could predict. Burke springs to mind in that as well.
Weren't they both free transfers? You can't chase a free transfer. With a tiny budget to compete at PL level, those players had the potential to work out despite their relatively low wages and zero transfer fee.

Given the rumours that we're about to sign Tanganga for £5m+ and have Danny Ings (last on £120k per week at West Ham) on trial, I'd suggest that the board is funding the club. It's just a pity that they've made that decision about two months too late.

Relegation is not a concept it is a very harsh reality if you do not get enough points. I should know, in my 57 years with this club I have been through 9 relegations. The first 2 we had Currie and Woodward in the team so never fall for the "we are too good to go down" trap. You can ask Luton about that.

I think there's a lot of players that you've managed to block out of your memory. I checked, and found that back in 2021 a newspaper did a compilation after he signed for Boro (https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport...is-wilders-sheffield-united-signings-22153059).

A lot of money wasted there. And that was before he went to Boro.
oliver norwood is as good a signing as we ever made

Who would be your second choice if he dropped dead?

Are you even capable of seeing beyond that dinosaur?
Everybody I know wants him back….the anti wilder fans are a minority. Selles is absolutely appalling, I know it, you know it….everybody knows it !!
