Marseille and Burnley are above us in the food chain. Maybe not by every metric but our players wanting to leave and join these clubs means they are.

If those clubs don't do their business (ie buy our players, meet our valuation etc) early then we can't avoid the situation we ended up in. We can't afford to buy replacements before the players leave because again we're not high enough up for the food chain and can't afford it.

They were never going to do their business early because they were holding that our asking price would drop the nearer to the end of the window we got.

It's literally impossible to get your business done early in our position.

I'm not saying we should have got our business done early, and I agree that Marseille and Burnley (ffs) are above us in the food chain.

We had to wait to get players in. We sold our players before we had progressed other deals to a significant point. We couldn't buy before we sold because we are skint, but we could've delayed our sales by a week or two, negotiated with Coventry and Villa in that time, and kept a stronger squad throughout the process.

You are right about bringing players in late, well run clubs will only let their players leave when it suits them, they won't be rushed. Us on the other hand...

Gnonto has 4 years left on his contract, so it’s a lot easier for Leeds to stand firm in that situation.

things didnt look too bad till yesterday even the training ground videos looked upbeat with good morale but yesterday was worrying those players didnt look like they were busting a gut for the manager

We're in agreement. I'm just not sure how this could've been achieved. Both clubs met our valuation of the player involved. Before that point, we had little to none of the collateral needed in order to justify opening talks for Hamer and Archer. We'd 'identified' them and possibly sounded them out via their agents, but without any clout the selling clubs wouldn't answer the phone.

Wouldn't we also be risking it falling through by stalling from that position?

Say we could've kept Burnley waiting, to what end? I haven't read anyone say we're missing Berge, and Norwood would've been picked over him anyway. It might've also meant only bringing one of the two midfield we signed before Hamer became Berge's replacement.

Marseille I don't think we could've kept waiting. Ndiaye clearly felt under pressure by their chairman's ultimatum.

When we played Basham CM, we definitely missed Berge.

But fair point, the deals could have fallen through.
