This was my 15th birthday and en route to the Lane, I was hauled into the back of a police van and had my details taken because I ‘looked like’ I might cause trouble. To be honest, I was just ambling along and dressed no differently to the norm for the football attending yoof of the day – Oxford bags, Doc Martens, scarf tied around wrist etc. Bloody filth eh.

The game though, is a bit of a blur. My memory, which is not the most reliable of instruments, tells me we played Bristol Rovers and Bobby Campbell scored to put us 2-0 up at half time. However, as is the Bladesway, we managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and ended up losing 3-2. Can any of you Blades historians on here tell me if my recall is correct or was that game on another day?

Your spot on mate with the exception of the goalscorer. Woody got the first followed by one from that gem of a striker Chris Guthrie. Surely you haven't forgotten him though I'm sure you've tried many times too

I think it was a record-breaker for Woody that goal. Can't remember what the record was, only that it was fairly early in the game. Or am I mixing things up again?

Bobby Campbell joined us in summer 1977. He was a Huddersfield player at the time we lost 3-2 to Bristol Rovers. Rovers scorers were ex Blades David Staniforth and Alan Warboys (2)

By George, they're wearing Oxford Bags!
