Fair play harry clapping us good luck mate we need brooksy this season and some pace we will be fine oh and a new keeper should have been out for their second. UTB
 
Been down here now three years our lass the Janner thinks I'm mad ! Two games in a week on the box looking forward to this season, something different up front and a keeper who owns his box not enough experience in the net, if he had been faster off his line which was easily read able could have been different but happy with putting our best on to see how it worked when watched back UTB
 

How stupid do you have to be to spell Maguire wrong by the way?

I'm no angel, and make my fair share of spelling mistakes, but:

  • He made 150+ appearances
  • His name has been printed by countless newspapers all summer
  • It's 7 letters long

Other than that, welcome to the board :)

It's all over the place, one assault on the English language after another.....the mis-spelling of a former United player's name is an example of the lack of care that exists for the mother tongue. It's getting worse, the use of mobile phones has added to the belief that it's okay to abuse a language that's about as rich and layered as you'll find. It's laziness gone mad, and although I try not to concern myself too much, I see very little to support a turn around in the decline of the most basic understanding of our own language.
 
I'm assuming the spelling mistakes were deliberate.

It's a forum. A written medium. It requires intelligible dialogue to function. It's not really the proper vehicle for the barely literate or those who have so little respect for their readership that they adopt an alternative language.

A little punctuation makes words easier on the eye. The basics are not difficult, though they may not yet have caught on in Plymouth.

I think it depends entirely on context.

It doesn't bother me at all that people message eachother or update their status in text speak; each to their own.
It bothers me when it drifts into the worlds of journalism, politics, education etc.
And as Pinchy says: the functionality of the forum relies on the English language.

Oh, I agree entirely that between two consenting posters, how they choose to talk to each other is entirely dependent on what form of communication they're happiest with. Include as many fucks, cunts, and bollocks as they like (and it should be reminded to everyone that we're fortunate to have site owners who allow a liberal use of language to be used).

Can you explain your second point about drifting into journalism etc etc. I don't want to misinterpret what you've written so perhaps you could explain?

And yes, Pinchy is spot on, unless language employs the tools we're provided with it can make understanding an increasingly difficult matter.

Next time you're in the ticket office check the sponsors adverts on the TV panels. I'm convinced one of them referred to Bramhall Lane when I was waiting to buy cup tickets on Monday. The advert didn't come back round again though whilst I was there.
