Things you like to see - come in no 10!

because he really isn't. I get the love for Didsy, but the reason he can do what he's done for us over the years is because he drops deep as a forward and finds that space.
That ain't a number 10.
I agree I think to plan for him to be a 10 in the medium term would be a mistake.

I get couple of loan signings but not bloody 5.
What if they are loans to buy, so would effectively become our summer transfer window?

Say the likes of Gallagher, maybe Ampadu, Gibbs-White, Brooks type level then they have a year to settle/prove themselves.
The important thing is that we have the option to buy.

Last time in the championship...

More than likely if we sign a youngster with potential were basically just helping his progression for his parent club, like Dean Henderson for example. And the other loans we had Hogan, Madine etc. They did a job but weren't good enough for the premier league.

With an option to buy I’m all in because that swings the deal our way and a try before you buy arrangement only benefits us.

Luke Freeman all day long for me please. While not a number 10 Conor Hourihane seems to have hit the ground running back in the Championship.

Yeah I'm not sure the superstar kids are going to drop down as they did for Lampard at Derby from Chelsea, so I think you're looking at those which aren't going to make it because their clubs are too far ahead of them. Take Gallagher and Amps, who'll never break through at Chelsea, we pick up the wages for a season and agree to buy, maybe with sell ones and you've got deals which work for everyone.

I hope we play a number 10. But the only player that we signed that did it well was Mark Duffy.

We also tried...

Jay O'Shea
Ricky Holmes
Dan Woodburn
Kieran Dowell
Luke Freeman

None of the above worked. So it might be hard to find the right player, unless we resign Duffy 🤔

Yeah I agree I don’t think we will get the cream of the crop and there’s no names jumping off the page in that category for the positions we’ll need for example Man U have a good under 23’s squad this year but the true strength of that side is upfront and we won’t be recruiting strikers I don’t think. Plus anyone leaving Man U is going to Derby now pretty much nailed on. In terms of players who have almost broken through but faded away there’s Gallagher, amps and Tomori at Chelsea. Tuanzebe at Man U. Nketiah at arsenal. Taylor harwood-bellis at Man City and then maybe someone like Gibbs-white like you say any of those on a loan to buy I’m happy. But if it’s not and we get them for a year whilst forking out a loan fee and that all we do in terms of business I’d be sceptical.

The only thing I'd add to that is that it shouldn't just be kids we're focusing on. They'll also be some more experienced players available on loan which should be used.
Going into the Championship season will all kids infront of our defence would be brave and potentially foolish.

Yeah but I think we’ll still have mcburnie plus didzy and billy who are experienced plus fleck so there’s so decent experience there.

In terms of older options it’s the wages that limit us again as even a prem squad players wages would be beyond us and especially loan to buy it’s a hard sell to get them to take a pay cut.

Looks like Wilder is going to revert back to having a no 10, which is a huge relief to me and hopefully a lot of fans.

I wish we'd have moved to it this season and been a little more bold in our approach.

That would seem to confirm Didzy as a forward option, probably with Billy, McBurnie, Brewster and Burke plus perhaps Hackford. I can see Mousse being elsewhere.

Maybe Freeman gets a shout if Forest don't sign him but if Chris does fancy a no 10 who are the candidates? Championship players and Premiership loans perhaps?

Always quite liked Wallace of Millwall myself. Also like a couple of the lads at Reading though maybe they will move upwards - Michael Olise and Ejaria. Bradley Dack in this sort of role is another.

How about PL loanees?

Thoughts?

Shame Wilder forced Duffy out of the club the way he did. How many of us have all asked our bosses for a pay rise? And how many were told to sling their hook and find alternate employment?

Wilder dose have his moments of cutting off his nose to spite his face.

and when we don't go up, we'll be in a worse position than before and having to replace 7 players. Sounds like a team just waiting for that season when it goes wrong.
That's yet more narrow minded short term thinking and a horrific missed opportunity if so.

Not sure about this as a strategy. Wouldn’t it mean we have to replace them all the following summer if we go up? Or even if we don’t, actually.

If we're keeping top performers only then there's going to be quite a few vacancies in midfield. And attack actually.

Im ok with the strategy, as long as the prem loans arent young kids but players who have had multiple seasons experience playing PL but fallen down the pecking order. (For every Dean Henderson there is a Ben Woodburn). For example Besic was a decent loan and looked comfortable when playing for us because he had that PL experience.

Then hopefully if we do bounce straight back up some of those loans might want to stick around on a perm

Secondly, if we are going to go to a number 10, Didzy is definitely not the answer, hes our best number 10 in the squad at the moment but he isnt a number 10.

For that we need someone who is agile with quick feet, if Baldock stays then Bogle at a pinch (MAY) be the answer but considering he hasnt played that position before it would take time for him to adapt

Potentially can add Samir Carruthers to that list n all

Tweets from Biggs today also suggests no permanent signings in the summer, CW's wish, (if he is here still) is to keep the majority of the squad together, trim it by 6 or 7 and add 4 of 5 "quality" loan signings......according to big Al anyway...
he knows that berge will be off

agree on all that especially your points on didzy and young loan players besic would be a good addition and i reckon we could get him for 3m but we need 2 more midfielders as well that area is going to be crucial if were going to have a run at promotion next season

Same bloke who seems to be broken
He's having a shocker, but is hardly alone. It remains to be seen how many of the players that got us into the top ten last season "have gone".

I'd hope to have Norwood in the squad next season, because in a team that has the right personnel around him and movement and pace down the flanks he's been one of the most enjoyable players to watch for many years.

I wouldn't be against Besic coming back, except to say that CW didn't seem to play him a lot last time?

In terms of time to adapt, bit controversial maybe but I'm just going to say it. If / when our relegation is confirmed, then any remaining games pretty much become pre season friendlies. Maybe a chance to give Bogle a go in the 10 spot.

Have you watched him play for Forest in the Championship ? He is not great.

Alan Biggs told us that we couldn't afford Sander Berge about 3 hours before he was unveiled.

I would have said Luke Freeman all day long, I was so happy we signed him. Fingers crossed he can play that position on a regular basis and make it his own.

We have to give Freeman a go imo

i would also bring freeman back

Freeman is highly likely to be back

Luke Freeman all day long for me please.

This isn't Sheffield United's decision. It all comes down to Forest. They have an agreed price and an option to buy. We can't recall him or pull out of that deal. The only way Freeman is at United next season is if Forest DON'T want him.

I think he would thrive in our #10 role
