This isn't Sheffield United's decision. It all comes down to Forest. They have an agreed price and an option to buy. We can't recall him or pull out of that deal. The only way Freeman is at United next season is if Forest DON'T want him.

I think he would thrive in our #10 role
Morning, I think you've misunderstood my post. I'm saying I don't believe Forest will want him given his injury problems and the level of performance that's allowed him to deliver, all of which has been caused by the botched operation.
You would hope that the price is set at a level related to his market value when we bought him rather than post injury so I hope it's unlikely they'll do the deal.
I'd be more than happy for him to return and vie for the number 10 role, but I'd like some competition there so he wouldn't be the only one.
In the promotion season if Duffy wasn't at it, we looked weak without a strong replacement chomping at his heels so for 46 games where we're expecting to go for automatic promotion you need more depth. Last time we were here, we didn't really have those expectations or aspirations.
I'm also not sure on what terms him and Wilder parted, so is he out of the plans like Duffy, or was it just because Wilder and Knill decided we were good enough to go with a 10 in the Premier League upon reflection?

Is that true about the botched OP? Who was in chearge of this OP, United or Forest?

Regarding players for #10, as others have said above McGoldrick is the best we currently have but isn't actually a #10. I do feel he will be quality there in the Championship though. Such a technically gifted player.

Other targets:
Swift (Reading) - could play the RCM role too. Probably go to the PL though, maybe even with Reading.
Olise & Ejara (Reading) - again, destined for PL one way or the other
Dack (Blackburn) - he would be a great fit
Powell (Stoke) - unfortunately Stoke are no longer relegation fodder so may try and kick on
Halilovic (Birmingham) - He was the next big thing coming out of Barca a few years back. I was shocked to see him at Brum. Is he that bad? Can we unlock his potential?
Sibley (Derby) - would be a great signing but at 19, Derby will do all they can to hold onto him
Wilson (Liverpool) - Is it about time he left them on a permanent now? Partner up with Brewster again. That would be a fantastic signing - Loan maybe?
Richards (Doncaster) - On loan from Brighton. Having a great season, 6 goals and 4 assists from the #10 position. I expect it would only be a loan though

The botched op is absolutely true yes but he feels like that has now been corrected but I've no idea who's advice it was under.
I would assume ours ,but if the convert to perm deal isn't optional for Forest then I could see why it may be them.
I have a feeling it maybe they have to buy as part of the loan deal, in which case I wonder if there's an option where they may pay to not have to complete the deal, which could work in both our favours.

not exactly true... it’s completely up to Freeman too, even if theyve agreed a price he could still reject a contract if we promised a squad spot

Would love Harry Wilson. Surprised we didn't go for him in the summer after a decent season on loan at Bournemouth ( 31 games, 7 goals) in the Prem. He shoots from long range and takes a decent free kick, so doubt we'd want that 😉
