for me anyway.

I've been a Blade a couple of years shy of 30 years now, and i've seen some proper crap in my time.

What i can't do is actually think of any point during my supporting life where i feel less ambivelent towards the fortunes of Sheffield United.

I've seen 3 relegations seasons in my time. 1987/88, 1993/94 and 2005/06 and they all hurt in different ways, but this one hurts the most as we are sleepwalking our way to relegation, and to my mind are already down and have been for a number of weeks.

i'm the same nearly 30 years

87/88 was too young to understand only 8
93/94 i was at stamford bridge that day it was horrible waiting at the final whistle but still only 14 at the time so really too young to fully understand
05/06 hurt we were so close and with all the Tevezgate but we played well and gave our best just fell short in the end.
10/11 this is the worst of the lot no passion and no heart from the team no fight you look at the league table and we are bottom and you have to agree we are the worst team in the league by far never have i witnessed such a lifeless team at the Lane

This is the worst year since 1987-8, and probably worse than that. Then, we went down but at least you could see what Bassett was trying to do. He had a plan.

Now, the future looks hopeless.

I can't remember the last time I was this depressed about United. I didn't feel this bad after the Wigan game. Chelsea in 1994 was worse, but not by much.

I also remember the 3 relegations you are talking about.

Chelsea 94 was horrible, that little grinning Stein prick will always be etched in my memory. However the side we had that season tried their nuts off to stay up, and never deserved the fate they suffered.

This season's shower deserve everything they get. No ideas, no imagination, as much pace as an asthmatic ant carrying some heavy shopping (thanks Blackadder), and I see nothing that suggests that they actually give a toss.

I see one almighty clear-out coming in the summer.

Still, looking on the bright side we can look forward to trips to Dag'n'red and Bury next year - 2 of the worst grounds in the history of the game.

The lack of acknowledgement that we are in the position we are by the club amazes me - it is as if we are coasting to a mid table finish. We need something radical, shake 'em up!!

Totally agree. The absence of any leadership at the club is a disgrace. If McCabe is as disinterested as it seems he should write off the debts - most of which his decisions created - & put the club up for sale. At least if someone new takes over we might hear some positive intent. At the moment we are just drifting into obscurity.

hear hear
he should write off the debt and disappear up his own brussels

I've been a Blade for over 50 years and the older you get the less it hurts. You sort of get immune. :)
Probably not as bad as going down to the old 4th division, but still gutting.
I've always been an optimist and up to the QPR game I thought we could escape, but not any more. Unless the world ends before the end of the season we are down.

I just wish Chris Steer wouldn't have come out the other day and said we wont go down...he would have been best to say nothing...

This season has been poor but it could be the wake up call we need (trying to put a positive spin on things!)

45 five years, won nowt, but never ever had to watch such depressing shite as this bunch of comediens

This is based on what I see 90 mins of Chavez c*nts at back of kop who fuck off if we aren't 24 goals up at half time

It has been a bad season, but for me it's been seeing near enough every team coming to the Lane with the purpose of getting away with what they can. Tough challenges, time wasting, gobbing off and encroaching play by taking throws and freekicks from wrong places have shown us up to be a soft touch just as much, if not more, as our technical ineptitudes!

It's been one of the most annoying season's I've had to endure since following them (first season 75-76, which was obviously disasterous). We knew at the end of last season where the problems were, far too many loan signings, Morgan apart all positions in the defence needed strengthening and some pace up front and on the flanks was required. None of the problems were really addressed. On top of that the board made some shocking decisions regarding the managerial hot seat at the Lane, as well as showing zero ambition.

On the playing front, the defence individually and collectively have been dropping ricks in virtually every game and the forwards haven't been good enough, Evans and Cresswell especially. For such a bad team it has been criminal that the two players that look like footballers - Lowton and Bogdanovic - have been at best bit part players. The board should have also acted to properly replace long term injuries to Morgan, Williamson and Henderson.

On the pitch and in the boardroom they have been abysmal.

To answer the original question, I'd say 75-76 and 80-81 have to be the worse relegations in my time watching the Blades.

could have sworn i've seen six in 30 .. this would be seven
75/76 one to two.. relegated by march
77-80 (can't remember) two to three. i do remember we drew with leicester 2-2 and went down
80-81 walsall home
83-84?? bassett gets us relegated can't remember game .. think it was a midweek game tho'
93-94 chelsea away
06-07 prem to champs wigan home..

just for a contrast we've also done the watneys cup final (used to be a big deal) .. three playoffs.. three cup semi finals and two league cup semi finals (or was norwich 72 a quarter final?) AND LOST THE FUCKING LOT :d
