And we are 3rd bottom. A fuckin travesty.

The standard of football this year is really quite poor considering the Championship is “supposed” to be the 5th or 6th “best” league in Europe.

I have my thoughts as to why this is so but we need to start to take advantage of this, and soon.

I would say overal the Championship is far better than it was last season , there is a greater number of " Play off contenders"

What there isnt is 2 or 3 teams who will get 90+ points

Because the league is so competitive i can see us making a push for the play offs if we get our house in order a big If

Would agree that the Championship's average quality has increased. For once, bar Cov, it's looking like anyone can beat anyone and the league is actually "the most unpredictable in the world".

I think the fact it's so shit actually gives us hope.

Agree with this particularly if we do happen to lose tomorrow which is a distinct possibility.

We will be soon left hoping that we can get more points than Norwich, Oxford and Wendy as the others will be 7 points plus ahead of us

All we can do is concentrate on the next game.

I know it’s the hope that kills you but you can see those 5th and 6th spots looking temptingly achievable for a team that can get their act together.

January will be interesting if we can improve a little until then.

It puts a lot on his shoulders but I’d love it if Arblaster returning really made the team tick. If we can have Hamer, Arblaster, O’Hare and even Davies for then we’re going to create. But we’ll need either Bamford or another striker to come in and make the team work.

I know it’s a bit Dad’s army but would like to see what Bamford and Ings could do together.

Looking at the current scorelines I'd say the most pressing concern is not getting cut adrift at the bottom
It's getting very worrying now.
Lose tomorrow and there's a 7 point gap between us and fifth bottom. Win and we are STILL in bottom three.

I won't know score till after 2pm as I'll be in the air over the Atlantic. Thanks Ryanair for cancelling my flight on Saturday. Cunts.

The worst Championship since the one 21 years ago where Sunderland won the league with an alcoholic Kevin Kyle and a 48 year old Marcus Stewart. Think we limped to 8th and there were calls for Warnock to fuck off. We decided to invest in the summer and got promoted.

I'm assuming you mean 5th or 6th bottom being achievable? 😉

We have absolutely no chance of the playoffs. Stunned people still think it's possible!

I just, I can't believe I still bother biting I think it shows there's something wrong with me. Obviously the answers to the points above are clearly f***ing no and clearly f***ing no.

But your sheer, remarkable ability to not only take the exact opposite viewpoint of what's obvious and true but to always come up with a point so unbelievably contrary and petty that nobody else could conceivably come up with it, leads me to one question. Is that you Jayne? Are you my Northern Irish Mother in law?

Win tomorrow and we’re 1 point from safety despite an abysmal start, lose tomorrow and we affirm our status as being an absolutely terrible team with no bottle or spine and deserve to be in the bottom 3.

Agree in that it is crazy in terms of being competitive. What hurts is that we should have an advantage and we’ve tossed it. The championship is a great league really. I saw a bit of Blackburn v Preston and Blackburn looked really good against a top six team, but the table would say otherwise, but they are a couple of wins off the play offs. And they looked toss against us.

Completely agree, said it a few times, it's as poorer championship as there has been for years. I have mates who support other clubs who say the same. Coventry should win it and they are going well, fair play to them, but they are no better than they were last year, the difference is the quality above them is not there this year. Some of the sides who are in/about the top 6 are bang average at best. Shows how poor we have been overall.

I think it would have been much harder this year compared to last

Derby have BBD & Carlton Morris up top

Norwich spent £10/£20 mill and appointed a good manager and are in our position

The leagues far more Competitive than last year

However that may mean a 65/70 points gets you the playoffs

Does people having different opinion on the internet work you up that much ?

They indeed could

10’years ago

Champagne we could have the best midfield in the division but with weak as piss centre backs and a forward line that cant score for love or money our primary aim must be to stay up.

Next 2 games are crucial, need a minimum of 4 points from them.

Look at Ipswich last night, absolutely pathetic, they turned up like big time Charlies and Oxford just got after them, pressed their bomb scare defence high and forced the mistakes, used their physicality and directness and Ipswich just buckled under, not a clue how to deal with it,their players shrank and showed zero character.

But if you're a Wednesdayite, it’s the toughest Championship ever.

Sounds familiar

Oxford didn't even have Brannagan available either, and they are still stepping it up to beat a favourite for promotion.
The apparent fact that anyone can beat anyone means we can't leave anything to chance and have to get those points on the board.

I've just been thinking about our current form based off of the last 8 games. On that we're averaging just over 1.6 points per game which if that continues for the rest of the season we'd be on a final total of 63 points which would get us probably around top 10 but ultimately nowhere near the playoffs.

Increasing that average to 1.8 would mean 68 points which Bristol City got last year which I believe was the lowest total ever attained to get in the playoffs. Bringing it up to that magic 2 points per game would land us on 74 which historically would probably do it but that said it also hasn't been enough in previous years (for context when we finished 5th under Hecky we had 75 points which was the same as Luton who finished 6th).

I guess I'm making this point to underline that it is possible but it does show how big an ask it would be. We really need to improve further and show top 2 form for the rest of the season which we haven't done up to this point. Even if that happens we'd still be reliant on the form of others to get there.
