The worst it’s ever been....?

Seen a few online saying it’s worse than Adkins. Those people need to get fucking real. If it really feels worse to be bottom of the premier league than plodding around in league one closer to relegation than automatic promotion then go back to supporting Chelsea or Liverpool. Starting to think it’s not even a case of short memories, just a part time attitude of some fans who came crawling back out after promotion.

If I was asked what excites me more: watch united play in a competitive league 1 match or a Premier League day trip out where I was routinely 90% confident I'd be seeing us getting steamed, I'd choose the former.

It's far from the worst team we've ever had but we've taken 1 point from the last 45 in the league, I can't remember a worse run in terms of points... We've obviously played at lower levels with a worse team and been on bad runs before but in terms of points per game this has to be the worst its ever been

If you watched the Adkins season you would’ve seen we were barely competitive in a lot of games, against the likes of Burton, Shrewsbury, Rochdale, Scunthorpe, Bury, Wigan to name a few. Losing against some of the best teams in the country isn’t comparable. It’s still not enjoyable currently by a long shot, but surely you can take solace in the fact the club isn’t in such a state all round as it was back then.

We should also take into account value for money

In Adkins last match we had Woolford, Hammond, done, baptiste (Alex not Clinton) etc

Yeah that was a bad team, but assembled on peanuts and paid likewise

We now have multi million pound payers, on what, £20-40k per week

In terms of shiteness, Adkins, but value for money, not sure which is least worst....

From a club infrastructure appreciation perspective, of course. Far healthier. From a gutteral match supporting emotional perspective, it's harder to say which is least enjoyable. We were certianly wank, but comparatively not as consistently wank. It hurt more when we lost back then for obvious reasons, but I never realistically thought it was a dead cert we'd lose. Now, I do. And as a supporter, that hurts.

My focus is next season, and to try look forward to some competitive games, hopefully being at the right end of the champ table. Bigger task than what a lot on here think.

11 defeats out of 12 isn’t a catastrophe. You got a point at home against fellow relegation candidates Fulham with a late penalty. . Get some perspective. And you’ve scored 5 goals as well. Look on the bright side.
We've yet to lose 9 in a row and only score one in the process. Can you think of a side that bad?

The biggest problem for you was last season. You massively over reached and that leads to heightened ambitions and expectations from more than anyone, the fans. A club with resources like Sheff u then struggle to keep with those demands. Its not a criticism because its the natural progression from doing well. However, you all went into this season believing (I may be wrong) that you would be able to follow-up from last season whie many neutral observers thought you would struggle. not this poorly, though.

If you change manager now would it be markedly different? With the playing staff that you have I don't think so. By that I don't mean the amount of points that you have but more the depth in talent in your squad. You were a Championship club that went on an amazing run last season but at some point those players would be found out. Sames an age ago now but in a sliding doors moment, how different would things have been if that opening day penalty had have gone in and you hung on to win 1-0?

I don't watch you so am unable to comment too much on Wilder but if you do go down (and I still think its a big 'if') as a couple of wins brings confidence back, but if you'd have finished 17th last season you'd probably be all, 'in this together' and wanting to be fighting as a club - fans and club together - to dig your way out of this. And when fans are back I think that's what you'll be able to do - fight for what you've earned.

It's poor, yes, and yesterday's result shows that in part the players are starting to not believe anymore, and luckily January is coming and the board have to decide to stick or twist. You need a forward desperately as you are easy to predict up front and are lacking real quality. Pay Bournemouth for King (if he's not injured), or get Gayle from newcastle - someone with pace and can give you an option. maybe vydra from Burnley and Snodgrass from West Ham on a short-term deal. They may not be the players that jump out at you but they could be the players that make a difference.

As good a post as from many of our own fans.

Too many either want to go completely to town or instead pull the big Blade badge of honour card.

We can’t go and we can’t win. Regardless of league status it doesn’t get much worse than that.

This is a very good Blades team as a comparison to other United teams over the last 50 years or so, but in terms of results within the respective league, this is obviously the worst set of results we've ever had and it's on a world wide stage which makes it more embarassing. My worst ever season supporting United was the relegation season from the Championship under three managers, because that meant we were in the third division for the first time that I'd supported United - 1989, so I just missed out, sadly, on the promotion of 1988/89. But what's worse with this team is that we just didn't see this season as bad as this, especially after the high of last season, we're not even a third of the way through and are set for another 6 months of this! I was optimistic until the Leicester defeat, but I can't see how the team will turn this around in terms of performances needed and to get out of the league position we're currently in. Our rivals have now started winning also, it's arguably the lowest I've felt in my time supporting United.

I think you might be a little surprised with what we did think.

A lot of neutrals having seen us finish 9th thought we'd end up dropping to say 14th after such a season of promise.

As soon as there were no fans and it emerged Jack O'Connell was injured, many were praying for 17th.

Not looking like those prayers will be answered!

The comparison to Adkins reign is fatuous - he had the budget and resources to comfortably be at the top end of the table and was nowhere near - and got worse.

Now we certainly have a budget amongst the bottom 2/3 of the league - and while we have by no means been good this season, we are a few breaks away from having 6-7 points and being a lot closer to the rest of the relegation dog fight.

Things couldn’t be going much worse really but there are at least some mitigating factors. That said it would be nice to get a fucking win at some point.

But for that to happen everyone needs to up their games. Wilder needs to pick the right team, and get his tactics together. Defenders need to stop shitting themselves and dropping bollocks every game, the midfield need to want the ball and not give it away cheaply and the strikers need finish their chances off. That’s the only way this isn’t a completely lost season and we show some fight going down.

It must be great knowing that no matter how shite you are or how rubbish you perform in your job that you'll still get paid a massive wedge of money every week for how ever long your contract is! 🤔

I despair at many of the ill informed ill thought out and frankly ridiculous opinions on this site since Blades fortunes changed.
There is no messiah waiting in wings to step in and transform the players into a winning team.

Wilder has had the boards backing (good or bad) and the players have to step up their game.
Team selection has to improve and tactics but many of players are well below par and especially the midfield.
I think the cohesive pattern of play has suffered trying to prize Berge into the set up and he doesnt suit
the team playing 3 at back. Playing Mcburnie has resulted in lumping it forward.

January for me i would like to see massive improvement to LB and midfield and if necessary offload Lundstram and Berge
Good as he is, he keeps screwing up and slows everything down. What i particularly want are pacy fast players
creating through midfield and played to feet and stop this endless backwards sideways, get caught in possession and a rough hoof to nowhere.
Also when a player is within 10 - 25 yards of goal wouldnt it be nice to see a shot or two on target
and not passed back 30 yards or a dink to forwards surrounded by 4 players and losing possession when all out of position.
Maybe there are a couple of under 23 s ready to step up.

Worst team we've seen AT THIS LEVEL, relative to any of the others we've had. Man for man its better than many of the showers of shite who have pulled on the red and white in the not so distant past.

Relative to the level of opposition we're facing however, we are a comparative shower of shite at the moment and have been right from the start from defensive errors, early goals, late goals, red cards, fluffed chances, missed penalties and general melancholy not to mention excuses about injuries and lack of crowd - basically all the stuff we didn't see last season. Newcastle away was the first total disaster we'd seen since promotion and it's gradually reared it's head more and more as last season went on and into this.

Last season it was "we've got no money but we're still beating top sides every week, look how great we are, our whole squad cost less than player x, hard work beats talent etc" to "we've got no money, we've lost to (insert team here), what do you expect?"

Add together a negative mindset, lack of confidence, lack of concentration and our under studies being significantly worse than the first picks and you end up with the dross that we've seen all season. Serious clean out needed at the end of the season regardless of which division we're in.

The second half of the 80/81 season under Peters must rank as the worst we've had. Lost at least 2 games from being 2-0 up during that run.

I would also nominate the side from 1987-88 including the one that lost 5-0 at home to Oldham that finally cost McEwen his job.

I also witnessed the 1-0 defeat at Bury, the 4-2 defeat at home to Shrewsbury and the final day of the season cringefest that was the 2-0 home defeat to Scunny as being what I can only describe as gutless.
