Ok I am creating this thread to give fair balance to peoples view on Monty.

Several threads have people stating their opinion over and over again on Monty and I don't think it brings a true reflection of how people view him.

Love him or loathe him, you get one vote and one vote only, go for it.

Feel free to give reasons behind your vote but don't be so shocked when people don't agree with you :)

loathe
what annoys me is that (just like quinn and hoofy used to do).. he splits the fans. i've seen people fighting over this POS in the stand ffs

I'm in between the middle two. He brings a bit to the team (commitment, mostly) and could do a lot better. He's an excellent squad member, for those tricky away games when five in the middle are required and for man marking jobs.

Imagine how intense it will get when he's gone though...

I fear when that happens some of us will commit suicide and some others will spaff their pants so much that they'll subsequently drowned.

Christ almighty. Potentially the worst post I've ever seen on this board simply due to a player who runs through walls for us and plays with injuries, being called a 'Piece of Shit'.

I would have thought he meant pile of shit and it being in reference to his footballing ability rather than his attitude etc.

In my opinion Monty brings nothing to the team that Ertl or Britton don't and he doesn't have their composure on the ball. I just don't rate him and see his attributes as more suited to those of a marathon runner than a footballer.

Just a shame that a marathon isn't made up of a series of small circles for him to run in.

Absolutely only there until we get someone better.

He's still my up there just behind Morgs as a favorite though. He's the symptom of our problems not the cause. Play often breaks down when it goes through him, but the same goes the other way - I can think of plenty of teams who've been unable to break us down because he's been there to disrupt their play. The shame of it is that we've often been unable to break those teams down because he's helped to disrupt our play.

Why do I like him - he puts in a shift for the shirt and is never found wanting for effort. I'd love for us to put a team of skilful players out there - but we don't, so in the absence of quality I always fall for the players who come to the fore when we're under the cosh - step up Monty and Morgs. Rather them than any number of flouncy tarts who start looking for the door the moment things turn tricky.

Surely every single member of the team is only there until we can get someone better? For example, if a mystery benefactor offers to give us three million quid to buy a player and also offers to pay said player's wages for the entire term of his contract then if the right player is available and he is a right winger then perhaps Ward would be dropped or even sold.

Now, if a mad arab with more money than you can dream of - like the idiot at Man City - rocks up with his chequebook then within a couple of years every single player on the staff would be gone. And if that makes us better then fine.

I like Monty. There, I've said it again. I am under no illusions about his skills or even lack thereof, but at this moment, with the budget we have, he is a good player for us. If we suddenly become a very rich club with a moneybags owner then replace him with better, but now he does a job.

Isn't it strange how the minority have to make a comment as though to justify their stance. Bit like the SWP.

I like Monty. I would like to know what opportunities he might have had to leave. Some might say no-one would want him but maybe few enquiries were made because Warnock would not have sold him, Robbo said he liked him, and I doubt Blackie would have sold him. Despite that I like continuity and he does represent the effort that we all demand from our team.

Ideally we need to have someone (Tongue used to) and now hopefully Britton will be the man, who will stand five yards off him so he can win it and give it.

There have been games when his distribution has been good but it has been ignored and then everyone jumps on the bad pass as though all of the passes were that bad.

One of my favourite games was v Blackpool where he was awesome. But if he did that every week he wouldn't play for us.

When he,s poor he's very poor, but when he's good the team always seem to do well. I think he brings a lot to the team. I wish the rest of the team put in as much effort as he does.

he cant pass, never scores, lacks any form of vision and for a scrappy ball winning centre mid, he cant tackle that well.

all he has is a good engine and wears his heart on his sleeve.

if we could get someone in to do his role, who could pass we would all take it at the drop of a hat.

nothing personal against the guy but he simply never has been and never will be good enough.

Am I the only one who feels that such polls are in poor taste? The guy is a human being after all, not a commodity.

How would you feel if someone started a "How do you rate Mousey" thread?

No, you aren't the only one B H. but I guess that we are all appraised at some point. I like Monty. I like his attitude and committment to the Blades. I can't ever remember him shirking a tackle or hiding, which cannot be said for others who get less stick week in and week out. Carry on Monty Could that be a film title from way waty back?

It doesnt matter what people on here think about him or how they vote in this poll. The fact is the manager and coaching staff see something in him to keep picking him.He as to earn his shirt for matches through doing well in training throughout the week.He would probably admit himself he's not the most gifted, player in the dressing room but i can honestly say ive never seen him go out with a dont give a fuck attitude like some i could name.Give the man a break FFS.

Second option. I think Monty lacks many attributes but he often has the opportunity to make up for it with heart and destructive qualities. He's certainly not the sort of player you can build a legacy on but he will give you a combative presence when the chips are down.

Those who fail to see what he does bring to the team dont want to see it because they have a campaign / agenda against him and for that reason they will never see it....

So in summary I think the lad should be applauded for his efforts and the things he is good at, but I do come down the side of the knockers in the sense that I think he can do so much better with other parts of his game. He can be as awful as he can be brilliant and he frustrates me at times. He does have certain games where his quality improves but it is sporadic to say the least.

>being in reference to his footballing ability
umm thank you..and what with me thinking that this was a football forum.. do i get a trophy or something for being the 'worst post ever'?.. cool.. may i start a poll for 'can we stop having monty threads'

I'd find it quite funny. If you're thinking of doing it I'd put it in the P&T though, it's likely to go downhill fairly rapid ;)

I think if Monty looked at this he might be happy to see that more people like him in the team than those who don't.

That's about the size of it Mousey. I'm sure Monty would be pleased to see this, and I'm equally sure he's aware of his own strengths and weaknesses so the comments won't come as any surprise either. More to the point, if I were Monty I'd be saying to the critics - "say what you like lads, I'm the one wearing the red and white shirt and playing football for a living - you're working at Aldi and wearing a bib"

>you're working at Aldi and wearing a bib
yeah that is the attitude i'm worried about. anyway can't talk about monty anymore so that is it..

he cant pass,

His pass completion ratio I would imagine is one of the higher ones in the team.

never scores,

Well, we all know that is erroneous.

lacks any form of vision

I've seen a fair few assists from him (btw, joint highest assist for the Blades in the PL)

and for a scrappy ball winning centre mid, he cant tackle that well.

He can tackle well enough for what is needed.

nothing personal against the guy but he simply never has been and never will be good enough.

Funny you should say that, because 4 managers in a row have believed he is good enough.
He was good enough when we won promotion.
He was good enough in our 2 play off final season and cup runs.

Your opinion though, is that he is not good enough.
Just like my opinion, is that he is good enough.

It would also seem that Warnock, Robson, Blackwell and now Speed would agree with the latter.

I'm under no illusion that if we had someone better for his role that he wouldn't be dropped. But as it stands, for the team we have, he deserves to be there.

Great post Robbie! Totally agree with your Opinion of Lord Monty

Monty brings a lot to the team but only in certain games and situations, like when we used to play Arsenal in cup games we would stick Monty on Viera or an other key player and he would mark them out of the game completely but i think for run of the mill league games we would be better looking at other players but Monty will do for now and was a big improvement from him against Derby !

You see, I think this is the viewpoint from a lot of fans. They know Montys limitations, and as such think he has a place in the team.

I'm more than happy for us to get a better player in than Monty, and if/when that happens then I'll be glad to see him dropped. But for what he brings to the team at the moment, I think he is good value for money and deserves to be there.
