listening on BP from Toronto, was absolutley fantastic. Great noise to push the Blades home when it sounded like it wasn't their best performance but the fans brought them over the line. "Bring 'em home" comes to mind from a previous thread of a week or so ago when new songs being touted...:) . I know its been said many times before, but what a difference in the connection between fans and players this season compared to the last few. Sent shivers down my spine and made me proud to be a Blade (and more than a touch homesick despite having been here for almost 30 years).

Planning my trip for Easter and Port Vale and Bradford to, hopefully, time the Promotion Party celebrations. Have my ticket for Bradford but could be struggling for Vale (11,000 points doesn't go very far these days....) - so if anyone can't make it and wants to make a fellow Blade very happy....

For the rest of the game it was flat.

That was a very strange atmosphere today considering how big a game it was. It was every bit as big as the Bolton and Scunny games, but you certainly wouldn't have known it. Bolton were even losing all game - it looked like the day we'd open up an unassailable gap over 3rd. But still, the Kop remained seated, and silent.

It's almost as if they were too scared to make any noise until they were certain we wouldn't lose.

Today was a fantastic day for us, we got the result we wanted from what proved to be a very difficult (and entertaining) game against arguably the best side we've played this season, and increased our lead over 3rd. But it really didn't feel like that coming away from the ground.

Maybe everybody's just decided we're already up?

I think it's nerves...certainly is for me. I could barely watch towards the end...I was convinced they were going to nick an equaliser at the death!
 
Nerves played its part today and without a doubt effected the atmosphere.

Getting played off the pitch of the first quarter of an hour didn't help either, Charlton were surprisingly good but we looked like we were still in the dressing room from the kick off.

The most embarrassing song I can remember, worse even than that nonsense about Sammon and Sparky Macnulty last season.
 
Fort it weren't 3 bad today, yeah some quiet times mainly cos people were biting nails or sucking on fags.

LOL just read that last bit back.
 
Charlton have a number of quality players, and as I said before the game that was a very strong line up from them. Probably their strongest.

So they had plenty of the game, and looked a real threat. This will be the norm in the Championship next season.

If our fans can't get over the team being under a bit of pressure and provide vocal support, that's very disappointing. But that's how it was today. I only hope it won't be the case next season, because on the pitch we can expect more of the same.

Don't be silly. It wasn't anywhere near as big a game as the Bolton and Scunny games. At the time those two were both close rivals.

I agree the atmosphere was flat for most of the game. Because we were poor at first and only ever really started to play a bit in periods of the second half.

That's why.

Agree! And I ridiculed it at the time. Totally stupid and it also mentioned Di Girolamo as well.

If we are going to make up songs at least include our best players in them. Not shite like Sammon and Di Girolamo and a player who wasn't even at the club FFS!

We started to play after about 20 minutes.

Being top of the league I'd like to think the team have earned enough good will from the fans to be vocally supported when it isn't all going our way.

I'd argue that it's every bit as big as those two games because the closer to the end of the season you get, the bigger the results become, and a win today puts us far closer to promotion than a win in either of those games would have.

What's absolutely certain is that it wasn't only 1/4 as important as those games.... but that's what it felt like today.

Those 'nerves' eh! Just how the fuck will we cope in the Championship when the majority of teams don't let us completely dominate them!
 
It's quite clearly nerves. The tension in the stands is palpable. So many scars from so many let-downs over the years. Yes, it'd be great if we could erase the bad memories from the collective mind, but I simply can't criticise Blades fans who are aching for us to succeed so much that they are paralysed at the match by constant thoughts of how we might manage to mess it up this time.

For my own part, the manager could make it a far less stressful afternoon by making sure that cone what may, whenever he is available, Jake Wright is on the pitch. That instantly eases the tension as it takes away the ever-present sense of some imminent Keystone Cops defending. For the first 25 minutes today, it felt like we'd be thrust back into the Fleetwood nightmare.
 
Opted to try the BL lower today, South Stand and Westfield Corner were in good form today. Hard to say about the Kop really, seemed a bit better than usual but still flat. Heard nowt from upstairs

We used to walk down Shoreham Street swinging a chain. Now we're going on about nerves. :rolleyes:

We've got our mojo back at last.

Our daughter sent us a video of the after match celebrations, like you say, shivers down the spine moments. Great to see our fellow Blades all around our seats so happy too and thanks for the thumbs up folks.

You must be a brilliant supporter Ricky because you post at least once after every game slagging every one else off even on this thread started by someone not at the game complimenting the noise made by home fans

Are you one of the Burberry clad youths who angrily shout sing up shoreham before embarrassingly mutterin to yourself for the rest of the game ?
